• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Washed 7001 miles of bugs and road grime off?

Wife and I rode the entire route 66 west to east, rounded the corner at the Mackinac bridge, and headed back west though the northern states.

I accidentally routed our GPS to Lamonster Garage when we were headed to the hotel in Springfield, but were welcomed by the crew with a tour of the shop and inspection of the Canyon complete with demonstrations of all the added goodies! I suspected the wife just wanted to check in and relax, but since we were already there agreed to stop for a visit.

Took my Spyder for a ride before the thunderstorms arrived.

Ran into a construction zone on one of the roads where they only had one lane open, and had flaggers controlling the flow of traffic.
I had to stop and wait, and while I was sitting there the flagger told me I had a nice bike. I thanked him.

Then I decided to stop and pick up some lunch, and while I was gearing up after stowing my lunch in the top case, another customer came out of the restaurant and told me she really liked my motorcycle. I also thanked her.

Then going back through the construction zone, the same flagger got a big smile on his face when he saw me, and took one hand off of the stop/slow pole to wave at me. I nodded back as I rode past him.

I drove 81 miles and was gone for an hour and 45 minutes.

Nothing earth shattering. I write to express gratitude for this forum. I finally got the bike back together. It's running fine.
But. (You knew that was coming, right?)
Yesterday the check engine light came on. Never seen it before. Bike was running well.
Went home, a few miles' travel. No codes. Read the manual. No help.
Came to the forum and did a search and found a number of threads on the ambiguous meaning of the check engine light.
One meaning was repeated: Battery.
I plugged in the smart battery maintainer. Turned the ignition. No check engine light. Unplugged the charger. Check engine line ON.
Thanks to all who contribute ideas and wisdom and knowledge to this board.

Took a nice 3 hour ride, the weather here was perfect, very little wind, I saw a side road on one of my previous rides and was going to check it out, but I had too much traffic behind me to turn then. l found it again today, the name of the road was Devil's Ladder, it was a cool country road straight up a long hill. Once l got over the hill and went on a twisty tree lined road, came around a corner and there was a campground and a little store. l didn't stay very long, made me nervous being there by myself, but it was totally worth the trip up the Devil's Ladder. I'm going to go down into that area again in a couple weeks and I'll take some pictures of the Devil's Ladder sign, the campground, and post them.👍

Today I finished the plumbing of my 3 gallon AUX tank on my 2022 RTLS. Now, 300 miles before a required fill is achievable. I did not see any leaks, more than I can say for myself. I had a prostatectomy last July. It is gravity feed through the main's vent. The aux tank feeds the main tank via the vent line. The OEM vent line is attached to the Aux vent.

This is the first time I have added an Aux tank to a FI with an Evap system. I would like to by pass the Evap system. I have researched and researched the Evap elimination videos but there are so many theories. I wasn't sure which lines to plug on the 1330. I looked up the install of a Camel aux tank. it was the best. I wish they made one for the Spyder.

If you try this, be ready for a challenge. Space is limited under the plastic. For now I removed the pillion seat and improvised a floor mat to cover where the pillion seat was. I attached two aluminum bars across the pillion grab rails. I secured the bars to the grab rail with U bolts with rubber coating to protect the rails. Then attached an aluminum plate to the bars. My desire was to buy a ragged a%% seat and use the seat pan. I could not find one. I did buy a used pillion seat but it was too nice to salvage. I tried to mount the bars and leaving the pillion seat on but there was not enough clearance for what I had available to use.

I'll try to send pictures. I will also try to up date on how over all successful the install was..

Please do not lecture me on safety, needing to stop often, or alternatives. I have carried fuel containers, I don't like them. I have heard all the lectures. If you have no desire for an Aux tank or longer distance to empty please do not offer your opinions.
I don't mean to be rude but I am tired of the less informed on long distance riding giving lectures or personal opinions about stopping to smoke, or rest their butt, or stretch their legs. I take care of myself on my rides. I rest where and when I want to rest/personal needs. With 300,000 miles in 15 years and 51 IBA certified rides, I think I have it figured out.

Yes, I have slowed down, gave up 2 wheels, but as my brother in law said, I am not dead yet. I am still a Mile Eater.

Here are my reasons for an aux tank:
I travel in remote areas.
I travel long distances within 24 hours.
Stations are not always open at O'dark thirty
In remote areas I have had to pray they have fuel.
I like to pick my places to stop to rest. I hate hanging around a gas station, they are for fuel and restroom, not R and R.
I want to fill the Spyder tank to the 7 gallons.
When I hit a head wind running 75 mph I like to know I can make my next scheduled fuel stop..
I wanted to see if I could do it. Plus I had 3 extra fuel tanks in my garage, 1.8 gal, 3 gal, 5 gal that I have used on previous motorcycles.

I second/support wholeheartedly & fully understand ALL of your reasons for wanting an Aux tank (y) But my Spyder's a 2013 RT, and the Child Bride'n I do a lot of 2-up long distance travelling (and there's places where we've got looooong distances here in Oz between gas stations/open gas stations/places that still actually have gas! 🤬) and there's not much space left on the RT that isn't waaaayyy up high on an RT for an aux tank! 😖 So, I now have a trailer/aux fuel tender. :cautious:

However, the reason for my post - I hafta ask, it IS the Aux tank you're talking about in the bolded bit above, isn't it?? If you're still talking about the prostatectomy, that's just TMI for me! And what bloody 'aux tank' do you have/wear after one of those operations?? No, don't tell me, I don't wanta know - at least not on the public pages!!

Sorry, but I just hadta!

I did mean to mention how my aux tank works. Yes, it is gravity feed but just as the Camel tank as the fuel leaves the main tank it creates a vacuum which pulls fuel from the aux tank. Gravity helps it. I must remember to be sure the aux tank is empty before opening the main tank, otherwise the fuel from the aux tank will flood the main tank.
After being sure the aux tank is empty one must fill the main tank, close it, then fill the aux tank.
I did find out that with the aux tank filling the main tank to max is a little easier. The aux tank allows the air to escape from the main tank quicker.

Leroy73 - a question for you. I was wondering - if you are running your aux tank feed line to the main tank vent, then wouldn’t a vented cap on the aux tank be sufficient? Only reason I ask, is because a vented cap was all I had on the 4.9gal aux tank on my ‘98 Honda Magna w/o fuel injection. I have a Lamonster IPS fuel cap on my F3-S, and think that should seal plenty good on the main tank. I have wanted to add some fuel to my F3-S, and had done a little research, as well.

Please DO keep us posted on this. In fact, you might start a separate thread that can be searched easier. Thx for sharing.

🤣
I just threw the leaking & prostatectomy in for a laugh. I really did have one a year ago, but no issues except once in a while I do leak a little.

In your case a trailer with a tank is a good way to go. A lot of IBA members on 2 wheels use a tail dragged (attached like a trailer hitch) with a pump.

without by passing the evap the vented cap would probably show a code same as cap not installed. On your Magna the vented cap worked since it there was no evap. Same on my VTX and Royal Star Venture, both had carbs also.

Took the 2021 RTL in for a service and oil change after completing my 9,045 mile cross country trip. Drove a little over an hour to Fayetteville to get the work done.
Just as I was about to get off I-40, the rear tire on a tractor trailer exploded and threw pieces of the tire onto the car in front of me. I was able to slow down and dodge the carnage. Then about 2 miles from home it started to rain. Fortunately, I was able to push on without getting wet. Smelled a slight burning smell as I pulled into the garage. I will check it later to see what that could be. I am thinking (hoping) they just spilled some oil on something and it is just burning off. We will see.
