• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ONLY IN CALIFORNIA - DMV!!!

According to the shop manual, the engine number is located near the left rear engine mount, above the exhaust pipe. Looks like it is on the left rear of the crankcase, toward the top. The frame is stamped toward the lower left front somewhere, although the pic shows the arrow behind the right wheel. I guess you're going to have to strip things down and hunt for a while. At least maybe this narrowed it down. Sorry, I couldn't copy the pics to illustrate things. Maybe someone else is a better hacker.

Having, in the old time, creating numerous CA/Federal vehicle approved stickers, "heard" of retyped frame # or plaque id, I do not see the big problem of having to show some stamping at the DMV... You want to have fun?? Move to Germany, Switzerland, France etc. it may take time to take off some tupperware but if it helps not registering a stolen bike, I am all for it!

"Move to Germany, Switzerland, France etc." What's with the move to stuff? I've shed blood for this country.......and if I want to complain a little - I'm entitled to. Lighten up SANFRANCISCO!!

Use your 'Print Screen' key and Paint. You can get any picture there is on the internet that way.

Let's try this. Not as easy as you describe, but thanks for aiming me in the right direction, Ron.

Thanks Nanc. Same as is on page 160 of the owners manual? Only it POINTS you to the frame stamp location as well.

Everything about this purchase went like clockwork up until....... DMV

guess it's time to :chill:

It's like everything else. Once you get the hang of it you'll wonder why you ever had any problems at all. I love the internet sites that tell you they've 'Protected' their pictures so you can't copy or use them. Silly boys!

Do not even get me started on CA DMV! You don't have the time to hear the whole story and when I was done you would not believe it anyway. As close as I ever came to crying in public! nojoke

One of the big reasons I now live in East Tennessee. You can drive a dune buggy down the street here!

Really, you moved to East Tennessee because of the Calif. DMV

WOW....

I live in CA, I have had a problem with getting a different personalized plate at DMV. I hate going to DMV, some of the workers are dumb. Now I just go to AAA offices, they seem to know the rules better than DMV.

No, there were several reasons, but the DMV in CA was one of them. California is just a preview of where we are all headed. It will just take longer to happen here in Tennessee.

I really didn't want to get caught dumping on California this morning; but JEEPERS!!!
Some 'Looneycrat" can make you jump through hoops and bark for cookies at the DMV? :gaah: What the :cus: else can I do??
Maybe Tito's got it right... He's even going to find you cheaper insurance along the way! :roflblack:

As someone who moved from San Diego to East TN, I approve this message :2thumbs:

I'm taking my California jobs privately funded pension an getting the hell out o here... Lol. 1433 days left. Yes I have an app for that.

I currently have 2 open rooms at my home for rent, feel free to PM me, For additional cost we can discuss making my garage "spyder only".

Rooms are 17 x 15 and have 4 closets (technically 3 but 1 has 2 doors)

jump through hoops and bark for cookies great saying.

V.I.N is easy to locate. On the front right side where the lower "A" arm attaches to the lower frame you can see the V.I.N stamped into the frame.

E.I.N requires the Left side panel that runs under the seat to be removed. The E.I.N number is stamped on the back of the engine where the elbow on the exhaust is.

And the WINNER is.............. Doc :firstplace:

You're the man!

Thanks Doc

No one has mentioned how CA DMV reacts to aftermarket speed mods like Muffler, Power Commander, Increased Air Flow, etc. My dealer warned me that CHP might stop me for my Two Brothers exhaust. Tread lightly in CA, I guess.

Pay Back!!

They wanted me to jump through hoops. FINE!!! I'll do what I HAVE to do.....and I did. Arrived at the DMV first AM....my typical smiley self - just an easy goin guy. However, they told me they needed to see with their on eyeballs and when he asked me to lay on the ground and read the numbers to him.........I said those won't be YOUR eyeballs......can I hold your pen and pad for you?

Suddenly there was no need to see the frame stamp ------- and all he had to do was crouch down to read the engine number.

Blk Max & its trailer now have tags.
