There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Registering a Spyder in New Mexico?

I just bought my wife a 2010 Spyder RTS SE5.
She went to the local DMV here in Carlsbad, NM to register it and get a license plate and was told by the supervisor there that they needed to see the vin number and engine number, that is stamped on the engine.
According to the dealership in Lubbock Tx, (where we bought it) and the dealership in Las Crucas, New Mexico.(closest dealership in the state). That to access the plate on the engine you need to take off the front wheels and basically disassemble the front end of the bike.
Has anyone else ever ran into something like this at the DMV?
she has all the correct paperwork from the dealer and the VIN number on the right side of the bike by the rear shock is visible and readable.

Thanks
Allan

:congrats: on the new ryde and :welcome: to the site. Sounds like a dilemma for sure. Someone will come up with a good answer for you. There are a lot of NM owners.:popcorn:

I hope so. There has to be away to do this with out taking the bike several hours away to a dealer and pay them to tear it apart then trailer it back several hours for a DMV clerk to spend 10 seconds looking at a stamped number then trailer it back several hours. And not mention the close to $1000 bucks it will cost to have them tear it apart and put it back together.

There will be others from NM posting here to help you, but there is no reason to have to disasemble the bike just for an engine #. I personally think the supervisor is wrong. (See if they can check with other DMV's in the state.) If that fails, BRP more than likely has that # engine, for that machine. Good Luck and :welcome:

Just registered mine in Roswell. Yes, the DMV needs to see the VIN in two places and they need to see the engine ID number.
First VIN is on the swingarm. There is supposed to be a VIN stamped in the frame near the left front.
I could not find the stamped VIN on the frame but I did find a VIN right behind the Frunk. Yes the Frunk had to come off.

The engine ID is on the back of the engine, left side, behind/under the drive pulley. I had to remove all the tupperware from the left side and most of the right side to expose the number.

I then rode it to the DMV naked (The Spyder, not me) showed them the engine number while I removed the Frunk. They saw the second Vin, I put the Frunk back on, drove home and reinstalled all the tupperware.
Not exactly easy. If you can find the elusive stamped VIN on the frame you might not have to remove the Frunk. But I removed the Frunk while I was looking for the stamped VIN.

When I moved to NV the DMV had a hard time finding the VIN and the guy finally just went with the one on the removable plate. When I bought my 2013 I had the same trouble but I think they finally found one up front. When you purchase a vehicle new from a dealer located in NV you don't have to have a VIN inspection so I was able to avoid the issue when I bought my 2014.

Good luck.

Your owners manual should show some pics of where the numbers are located. I believe they can be seen with a lot of disassembly, but it is tricky. Most police officers in states that require it are pretty good at mirror tricks to see the darned things.

I'm surprised that there seems to be such a lack of uniformity, across the Nation's DMV offices... :gaah:

Why does that surprise you? In Michigan there is no VIN inspection necessary except in isolated circumstances. Just like some other aspects of the motor vehicle codes, every state has a different idea about registrations and vehicle inspections.
