• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Recall - 2017-2019 RT and F3 Engine Output Shaft Can Break!

Not open for further replies.
Got my letter today here in New Zealand.

Exec summary.

My ride is on the list.

The corrective actions are under review and not yet available.

BRP will offer the corrective actions free of charge.

BRP will send me a second letter to inform me of the corrective actions before January 31 2025.

One thing I will be doing in the meantime.

After checking all around me and in a sensible place....

I'll be getting some practice in with activating the 4-way flasher switch on the move, so in the unlikely event of suddenly losing drive I won't be looking for it.

No "Aw Shucks! What The? Ah, that's right - Output shaft! Now I have to get out of the line of traffic before I get run over" followed by a light-bulb moment... "Maybe... I will activate the 4-ways to alert other drivers!"

Reminds me of the early eighties when Chrysler had a huge problem with their transmissions.
I had a '90 Chrysler LeBaron convertible. The transmission failed after a few months. I stopped by the dealer to check on progress. The technicians had already quit for the day, but the service writer took me back to the shop to have a look. My car was up on a lift, and there were transmission parts spread all over a workbench! "Should be ready tomorrow." Well, the fix didn't take. They then swapped the whole transmission.

Bugger... how unfortunate, Iso. Here’s hoping you experience zero issues before your repair is completed.

Dear Can-Am® Vehicle Owner,
This notice is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. BRP is conducting a safety recall.
Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.
What is the potential problem? The output shaft installed on affected vehicles may be exposed to stress concentration that could cause fatigue failure. Over time, the output shaft may break, resulting in a loss of drive power while driving. This can increase the risk of a crash.
Which models are involved?
Certain 2017 to 2019 Can-Am Spyder RT and F3 vehicles
What will BRP do?
The corrective actions for this recall are under development and are NOT yet available.
BRP will offer the corrective actions free of charge.
BRP will send you a second letter to inform you of the corrective actions before January 31, 2025.
What should YOU do?
In the case of a loss of drive power, you will maintain steering and braking (including the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)), but you will not be able to maintain your speed. You will not have all the functionalities of the Vehicle Stability System (VSS).

What is annoying about this is that it's my only form of transportation - so do I still ride it like I stole it; baby it; or just park it and forget it 'til the repair is finalized?

I continue to run through the gears at full throttle on freeway on ramps. Been doing that on the Hooker since fall of 2020 and on Hookie since last January. I love vroom vroom! I always get lower MPG than Jerry, my riding buddy, but I care more about fun than MPG. I sure I am not the only 80-year-old that likes vroom vroom.
