What did you do to your Spyder today?

Put 3 new tires on today at BajaRon's.
(2) Front Vredestein Quatrac 165/60/15
Rear is a General Altimax RT45
225/60/15. This is the 1st time they've installed this size tire on a F3S. I'm the guinea pig.
The ride home is an hour, and they rode great. I think 28 psi is too much air in the rear. 18 psi up front.

From what I've read on this forum, 18 psi would probably work better on the rear also. I'm 220 6'1" and I ride solo 100% of the time. I'm also a pretty aggressive rider. Coming around a 15 mph corner today, one that I do every day, I normally hit it at 30 mph+ - today coming home, I tried it at the same speed and the rear end was sliding around. Too much air psi I reckon.

I have Front Vredestein Quatrac and Rear is a General Altimax. I'm running 18psi alll the way around and it's great.. In the twisties, in the mountains with butt sliding curves, the tires are very stable.

Thanks for the confirmation. I lowered it to 18 psi on all 3 tires last night. I'll give it a try later today. Thanks again for responding. Cheers!

Yesterday I replaced my 4-year-old OEM battery. Man are they expensive! Got battery tender leads coming and will be adding that to the bike when they arrive. No more guessing. I'll have a full charge every time I take her out.

Hoping to get pics tonight of the things I did over the weekend. Gotta mow the lawn and overseed it before the rain comes in tonight.

Just be wary of keeping it on a tender ALL the time when you're not riding!! :lecturef_smilie:

If you generally ride for 30+ minutes or so & include at least some Highway/out of town speeds in that, &/or you're only leaving your Spyder un-ridden for less than a week or so, then your battery will be better off in the long run if you leave the tender disconnected between those weekly longish runs; but if you're leaving it sit for longer without said 30+ minute ride in the next week/10 days or so, ONLY THEN should you consider connecting it up to the tender for 8-10 hours or so every now & then!

Leaving any battery, even a brand new battery, connected for an extended time to a tender that DOESN'T have an automated 'Maintenance Cycle' can rapidly kill the battery, and many have found the 'surface charge' those sorts of tenders can give even just a mildly discharged battery can often let you start at OK home, letting you ride off without a care in the world; only to discover that the battery is dead/incapable of res-starting the engine once you stop it & then try to start it next time!! :gaah: This is more likely to happen if you don't usually ride it for long enough to 'close to fully' charge the battery and so replenish the drain from starting it (only how long that might need can vary from battery to battery, altho it's usually AT LEAST 30+ mins of riding at a reasonable speed! :p ) So if you leave it on a tender whenever you aren't riding, you might just find that you can start up and head off OK, only to find that if you ever stop while you're away from home, it just won't start again, leaving you stranded &/or looking for a jump start!! :banghead:

So get yourself a quality Battery MAINTAINER (rather than just a 'tender' ) and if you're planning on riding your Spyder again within the next week or so, DON'T connect it to the tender/maintainer at all, and DO try to make sure you put in at least one good 30+ minute ride every week or so! :ohyea: Do that, and a good quality battery should easily last a fair bit longer than just 4 years (my batteries rarely see a tender/maintainer and usually last at least 8 years! ;) ) altho if you have an annual lay-up period cos it's too cold to ride, that'll probably shorten its life expectancy a bit anyway - batteries don't really like sitting around unused, especially if it's cold, and they do have a finite number of 'reliable charge/discharge cycles' in them... altho how many that number actually is can vary from battery to battery & usage patterns too!! How long is a piece of string; or a short wait vs a long wait?? :dontknow: Just like battery life, both of those depend on a whole lot of variables, but we do KNOW that leaving your battery connected to a tender ALL the time between rides is a sure-fire recipe for getting caught out with a dead or dying battery when you're a fair way away from home, and also might kill them earlier than expected! :lecturef_smilie:

Just Sayin'

Ps: The OEM Spec batteries supplied by BRP since about 2020 are nowhere near as good as the earlier 350 CCA 21 A/hr Yuasa's they used to supply, so you should try to make sure that any replacement that you get is AT LEAST specified as highly as the earlier Yuasa's detailed above! :2thumbs:

Good Luck!

Had to swap rear tire size from the new 225/60/15 to a 215/60/15 Altimax RT45 due to rubbing against the lower shock mount tubing.

Here's a couple of pictures of the add-ons I did this past weekend. I added the lights on the top case and modified a blank switch plate to add the dual USB port plug. I also added the Carpirude as well.

With installing the USB device, I cut out the middle of the blank switch cover. The problem is the USB device was as wide as the cover but not as long. So, I ended up cutting the end off and using E6000 epoxy to glue the ends on the USB device. It fit perfect and actually snapped in place.

Must be a little different on the F3 Limited. I have been running the 225 for a couple of years now and no rubbing and we do mostly 2 up riding.

Moved the Spyder to a different parking place in the garage today in order to get the Goldwing/sidecar rig out to take it for it's 2 yr. inspection and registration renewal. I've been enjoying the spyder so much, I realized I only put 200 miles on the hack in two years! I enjoyed the 50 mile ride to the DMV today, but I had to remember how to shift and stay in the left side of the lane! A successful day at the DMV and lunch at Mission BBQ. All in all, it was a good day on a different set of 3 wheels.

Finished up the ISCI Hand Brake addition.
Installed,
NOCO Lithium Battery
Fobo Tire Pressure Monitor
ThunderBox
12V Cell Phone / GPS Docking Station with Dual USB Charge Ports
Spedal NaviCam CL876

That's it, I'm done!
Now to ride many miles!

Got the battery tender leads to permanently install and will install them tomorrow. I'm going to give her a bath as well and if I have time, put the ceramic wax on her I bought last year. Will take more pictures after she's washed. Then the wife and I are going for a ride.

EDIT 6/8/24: Here are some pictures of all the stuff I've added this past week and today.

The pictures of the sheepskin, that was a full sheepskin that I wasn't using because I had gotten the 1-piece Corbin seat with built-in gas cover. Because the seat gets hot, I wanted to put it back on, so I cut the sheepskin before it reaches the backrest. I then cut out a section where the gas cover is. I didn't completely cut it out. I cut it around most of it but left it still intact where the hinge is. Then I used gorilla tape to hold it to the cover.

The Carpuride I thought fit between my handlebars, but it does not. It's the 7" screen. That's ok though. I like it where it is. The hitch and accessories I had since last year. My back isn't as bad as it was last year, so I was able to finally install it. It's mainly for my golf bag.

The USB port I added the other day, but this is a better picture of it. Oh, and I connected the leads to my new battery for the battery tender. No more surprises. She'll be charged all the time.

Oh, and I re-installed the OEM antenna.

Rode to the club breakfast and back, taking the scenic route. Ate too much. A total of 150 miles for the day.

HI Quickdraw,

I have a question for you... Since you re-installed the OEM antenna, do you get better reception, and do you get more radio stations?

Deanna

Hi Deanna. I'm not sure about more stations. If by more, you mean did those stations I listened to return? Yes.

This week I'm going to attempt to add the missing belt guard that's been sitting in my garage for almost 2 years. I heard there's minimal tolerance between the tire and the guard and the belt and the guard. I guess I'll find out. As long as it doesn't vibrate and rub against either one, I'll be happy.

Washed Pearl off... 500 miles of bugs is icky... Now we're ready to go see sprint car racing tonight!
