• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Would you change this tire?

WORN TIRE

Both of my rear tires looked a LOT worse before I changed mine......But maybe I live on the EDGE..........You will hear OMG you better not another 10 feet on that tire.......But guess what , a BRAND new tire can go flat also...............Do you have RIDE-ON in it.? ? ?......21,000 plus on a rear tire may be a record.....I think I would change it tho...Riding two up and going long distance to M.V. you sure got your MONEY'S worth from that tire.....good Luck....Mike

I would. You can see that the wear bar is the same level as the tread in the center. I replaced mine with a little over 20K and it looked about the same. Based on some of the posts you see on here we should be happy the rear tires last so long for us. I will probably do the fronts before MV - now have 28K on those.

I probably wouldn't take time out of riding just to change the tire; but if you've got some servicing coming up... Change it!

Definite Yes. As CaptBlack says the wear bar is now level with the tread and not only will the tire have significantly
less grip, especially on wet roads but the likelihood of a puncture is greater. It has to be changed anyway so ASAP
would be prudent. HTH

You have done very well at 21K on the tire. I usually get about 13-15K and they look like that. When the tire is that thin in the middle of the tread, it is like inviting Murphy to come to the party. I would recommend changing it out, have an oil change, filter, and check up. Then you can head off to MV in confidence.

Prudence is good insurance. Wives get real cranky when sitting on the side of the road. I have never seen or met one yet that would say " honey it is alright that you just tried to scare us both to death by saving a buck!"

LOL! Good observation!

It has 21100 miles on it. I don't think it is a good idea to go to MV 2 up on this tire.

I would, mine look like this around 18K and I change them, I was headed to Spyderfest both times when I
replaced because and there was gonna be allot of rain that I wanted to have channeled out. My fronts lasted
to 33K, could have gotten a little more out of them but didn't want to hassle finding out on my trip.

The handling in the rain would be the reason that I would change that tire. To me a worn tire on dry pavement is kind of fun but the fun goes out the door in the rain.

When you have the wheel off to change the tire, ask the dealer to change the wheel bearings and seals too. Bearings are cheap, labor is not.

The reason for changing the wheel bearings is what? If they're not broke, why fix them?

The three bearings cost about $60 total and labor would be minimal with the wheel off to change the tire. I did mine at 22K and the big bearing on drive side was still good but changed it anyway, and the other two smaller ones were showing just a little play. They might well have gone another 10k or so but then they might not have.

That photo illustrates the classic indication of over-inflation... finished in the center but lots of tread left on the outer edges. Would you mind sharing some info about how much pressure you carry? And how much load you usually have? (2-up, etc.) Thanks!

(Maybe the pressure was the difference between 18K and 21K?) :dontknow:

In this case, not really. With a wide tire that has thin, 2-ply tread, the tire has a tendency to balloon at speed. This could just as easily be a sign of a lot of freeway riding as a sign of over-inflation.
