• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What did you do to your Spyder today?

Just back from an 8 day trip around the western Finger Lakes area of New York. We rode 2 up and fully loaded. It was a nice trip that combined sight seeing at Niagara Falls Ontario, day hikes in the Watkins Glenn area to see waterfalls, and trips to a few museums. First day was a 6 hour ride in a light rain. Day 4 was intermittent rain. Great trip riding with the club. Saw the odometer roll past 9,000 miles.

Yesterday (Saturday 10/5/2024) I took a ride and did some fall foliage site seeing. The trees are at their peak in color. I did about 100 miles round trip.

Gave it a good clean and drove it to a local mc shop for winter storage.
Had to instruct their mechanic on how to release the brake and show where the seat release wire was hidden. They will charge battery once a month and keep it clean from dust.
All for the nice sum of 300 US dollars.

.

Worked on the cat delete I purchased from a friend who never installed it. Enlarged the holes in the baffle a little. and welded it in place as I don't trust the screw. installation is next. Any tips on the cat install??

Lew, you will be glad to have that cat gone. It's a lot of weight. I did baffle mine, not the most, and not the least, and I like it. Make sure your doughnut is in good shape. I reused mine without an issue. Bike threw no codes. Sounded throaty, but not too loud or obnoxious. Just take your time and it's not a horrible job. I will say that that getting the springs back on were a bit of a challenge, especially the top one, but once you get that on, that is the worst part done. Pretty smooth sailing after that. Did it on mine and have not looked back, and I would do it again without hesitation. Good luck.

I have a huge paper due today for my Masters, which at my age, I should just forget about. So this morning I just kissed her. Told her I missed her, loved her, and wished we were riding to Yakima for a burger at Miners, but it will have to wait. She went back to sleep, and I came up, jumped on the site for a bit to put off the inevitable and now it's back to working on the paper, some work for work, and hoping for some non-rainy weekends. I did replace the rear POS OEM Kenda this Summer, with the General Altimax RT45, so Lisa and I are finally Kendaless (a good word) and a good thing. Waited too long to get that done.

I did an oil & filter change today.

I used Valvoline Motorcycle 4 Stroke SAE 10W-40 full synthetic. I added stable in the gas tank, and took it for a short ride today, to let the stable get into the system. Filled up the gas tank.

The Spyder goes into hibernation on Sunday, until April of next year.

(It is formulated for the specific needs of high performance 4 stroke motorcycles, including high temps, high RPMS, and WET CLUTCH Systems( which the Spyders have). Full synthetic formula for the ultimate protection against wear, deposits, and corrosion that can decrease engine performance. Developed with advanced additives to resist oil thickenig and maximum horsepower. Outstanding wet clutch protection for maximum power transfer & smooth shifting).

.

Removed the pre-muffler (cat). Not all that hard. Used a ratchet tie down strap through the rear wheel attached to the tool in the kit. The other, lower, springs were easy. Now waiting for the heat wrap. It is a heavy piece for certain, glad to have the weight loss.

Actually, Saturday the 12th.

Hit the rear of an SUV in stop and go traffic with my right front wheel. Spent 12 hours in the local ER undergoing tests and awaiting information. Possibly totaled due to age of the bike and the fact that the front wheel took the brunt of the impact; it is knocked back about an inch or so. Front body panels no longer line up. Broken ribs and strained right wrist. Still awaiting Allstate's evaluation on the damage. Not a happy camper right now.

Bugga!! Glad that's all you copped tho! I hope you aren't in too much pain and that you get over any you are in fairly quickly...

I know from personal experience how painful broken ribs can be; but hang in there, chances are your wrist & ribs'll only hurt for 8-10 weeks, then they won't!

As for the Spyder, that can almost certainly be fixed - whether or not it's a cost-effective thing to do is up to you & the insurance company to work out. :dontknow:

However, if your local Motor Vehicle Insurance Industry is anything like ours here in Oz (and at least in this, I'm fairly sure it IS) just remember that you don't necessarily HAVE to take their initial offer as the be all & end all of things and you have no choice but to take it or take the loss!! :cus:

Most of the time, MV Insurance companies are reasonably close on their valuations etc, but I've found that often, with things like 'Special Edition' vehicles &/or less common vehicles (like our Spyders) they can be waaayyy off in write-off valuations &/or repair costs; usually because they either haven't come across the particular vehicle too often before, or because they ONLY got repair quotes from the manufacturer &/or the manufacturer's dealers!! If you don't like whatever they suggest &/or offer, and you have any valid reasons to suggest they've tried to cheap out on you (see those reasons mentioned earlier/above! ;) ) you are allowed to refuse their suggestion/offer & get them to have a look at it again! I've done this myself for other 'Special' vehicles, and I've suggested doing just this to a few local Spyder owners who were told their Spyders were clearly write-offs and yet only worth a small fraction of what it'd cost to replace them, getting a better result &/or pay-out figure with some fairly significant success!

If the repair doesn't look too hard &/or the repair cost or write off value doesn't look good to you, see if you can get some better repair quotes from a non-dealer Spyder Tech &/or more realistic replacement valuations from the non-dealer market. I've ended up with quite a bit more in the way of payout for a written-off vehicle, and the local Spyder Owners I discussed this with have either also ended up much better pay-out for the write-off or getting their Spyder repaired by a non-dealer Spyder Specialist for a lot less than the dealers wanted, thereby avoiding the write-off - and they probably got a better repair job done too!! But the point is, you can often end up better off than you would've been if you look into it a bit more/argue a bit rather than simply just taking the Insurance Co's first offer without said investigation/argument!! :lecturef_smilie:

So do your homework before accepting a less-than-ideal Insurance Co decision &/or valuation/repair cost!! :2thumbs:

And here's to getting your knees back in the breeze soon too!

Installed and programmed the Doormate 2 Garage Door Opener from Slingmods. Had to purchase a different screw to mount to the Lamonster top cuff, but otherwise, it was an easy install of a very useful accessory.
