There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Vented winshield

I was looking at replacing my stock windshield with one that comes on the 2013's that are vented. After looking at them in person, the vented ones have hole in the lower corners where the bracket is attached to the windshield. So I thought since the bracket has 2 holes could I just take my stock windshield and cut holes where the bracket is and make my own vented shield. The vents in the new shield are exactly in the same place of where I would be cutting.

Has anyone done this? I've seen the goldwing vents but not real crazy about the look. If this can be done how and what types of bits would I need to cut the windshield with?

You sure can do this!
I had the 27" "Barn-Door" screen on my 2010, and I bought a 2013 25" version with the vents...
It reduced the buffeting to almost nothing! :2thumbs:
If you're capable of making the cuts... it'll save you lots of cash... :D

What types of bits will I need? I have a Dremel so they should make a bit that will cut it.

I just replaced my stock 25" with a 25" vented version - while the good weather buffeting is fine - at full extesion, the vented windshield is smaller, narrower, less streamlined than the stock windshield, making me wish for a 27" version, that would offer a bit of weather protection too.

Somebody did this and documented the process but it was a couple years ago. You might be able to find it if you search real hard. Good luck.

I have a Cal-sci with vent in middle....it was a little to wide....as in twisties handlebars would hit shield....Mark cut it down on the sides and went ahead and cut some off the top.....I'm only 5 foot....now I have options to raise or lower the shield.....

windshield

I have a 2012rts. I cut mine out just drill a 1/2 hole in each corner then use a saber saw to cut it out. File it smooth then use sandpaper to finish it. Be sure to tape each side before you start.

Are you saying to put tape on the windshield and then mark it? I was planning on using a dremel with the multipurpose bit. Starting with drilling holes every inch or so around the shape to be cut out and then sanding with the sanding bit to smooth out the edges.

Years ago, when I was in aviation, we would drill the windshields with a standard drill bit in reverse. Never cracked one
definitely tape it. don't be scared to tape a big area, including if your going to lay it down anyplace it will touch

cutting holes in windshield

I done this a year of so ago. Sorry, I don't know how to copy and paste the thread on here but in the search window just type in "cutting holes in windshield" and you will find my thread. As you go down through the thread you'll see pics and information.

Holes in the Windshield?

It would seem to me that placing holes in the windshield would allow wind to pass through, but how about rain? On a rainy day it's nice to have that windshield block the rain. Can someone post a picture of where you would drill these holes?
Thanks guys, it is nice to get information from people with this type of experience.
Tom
