• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Vendor Idea. Please somebody make this.

There have been previous discussions about auxilliary fuel tanks. And we have discussed various carry on bike extra tanks. I use Rotopax tanks myself.

What I would like someone to build for us is a fitted frunk fill can (say that three times fast). Carrying 2-6 gallons. Fitting the bottom of the frunk. It would need the valve and handle on top. Handle would have to fold or recess. I suppose we'd need two versions for the RS and RT. A secure fitted tank in the frunk seems like the safest alternative to a real fuel cell like Mr. Orange has.

I presume it would take up at least half or more of the frunk but this would be a sure winner for those long hauls. :thumbup:

Let me know what you think and if anyone is doing one.
 
Jim Potts motorgroup Woodstock, IL. already offers just what you are asking for. it is sold as a kit and shipped with everything you need. Yes it does take up more then half the frunk.

This idea scares the bejeebers out of me! The thought of a plastic container full of fuel being the first thing that hits if you run into anything, possibly leaking under the cat converter of the car in front and bursting into flames, makes me want to put away my riding suit and get out my old firesuit. Carrying any fuel container is dangerous, but carrying it up front, in a closely fitting compartment that is easily crushed, is especially risky. If you are going to carry fuel in your front trunk, I urge you to do it in a fuel cell.
 
I still don't get the 'need' for extra fuel. There are very few places in the USA that you won't find a gas station every 150 miles.....

Perhaps the new Hybrid Spyder will be just what they want.....
 
If hit something hard enought to rupture a plastic tank I would just as well go out in flames, lol.. in the end its all the same, lol. I carry a plastic 1 gal emergency containter in my back right luggage compartment but I would think something fitted to the sized of the compartment would hold a lot more, possibly 3 or more gallons.

Some of us can't make it 150 miles. My 2011 RT is on the light at 125 without the trailer and less when towing. My 2010 hit the light at 85-100...tops! Nancy's GS can do 150, though. Most places here in the East are no problem, but I have been forced to hold my breath a few times...putting 5.9 gallons in a tank with about 6.0 usable gallons capacity...even with Nancy's thrifty Spyder. Out West things get spread out a bit farther in some locations. I have never had to use my cans, but they do ease my mind on a long trip to an unknown location.

I have 2 of the Reda cans that I only carry when I'm pulling the trailer, because I get about 1 MPG less (how horrible is that???!!!), and they are a few feet behind me. I believe they are safe enough and they give me peace of mind.
OK...I worry too much...Firefly call attest to that! nojoke

I am one of the "lucky" Reda can owners that have no problems with leaks or smells. I actually had one in the "frunk" laying on it's side and had no problems.

I purchased 2 Reda cans and have never used them. I'm headed out to Rhode Island on the spyder next week and the Reda's will be staying home. I have the BEST warranty and just checked the brochure and fuel delivery is covered.

When it comes to posts, I know that I am the head of the head of the redundancy department, but let me share my opinion on this again.

150 mile range is fine for a road trip. You probably want to stop every couple of hours and stretch your legs, eat, etc. While buying gas.

150 mile range for a daily comuter means you are buying gass every two days, fully twice a week adding more time to your daily commute. In my opinion, this is an extremely sub-optimal situation.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yes. Removable. I have seen Mr. Oranges most excellent fuel cell install. Its remarkable. But I want something I can plop in for long hauls where fuel might be scarce.
 
All the opinions are very informative however there are places in this country where you might be breathing fumes before the next station. I would rather never have to worry. Wouldn't you?

And my bike has a turbo so I get a bit less mileage now then before which adds to the problem.

I currently carry 1 or 2 Rotopax cans strapped to my Moto Guz pack bag on the passenger seat. I don't think they are any safer there than a strong fitted can in the frunk.

It was just an idea I had for a product that I think would be of value to the riding community. A fitted removable gas can for the frunk. It could be a removable fuel cell as well for safety if someone were going to make one.

Since no vendors chimed in I presume it's not something that will happen anyway. :(
 
And to further clarify, I am heading cross country through Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and California. The West is a lot wilder than the cushy life all you Northerners and Yankees live. LOL :D

And then later this year through Texas into Northern Mexico. Though Pemex is usually everywhere.
