• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

THIS JUST PUBLISHED BY NHTSA

i wonder if they will get their extension and how much time do they want. do they wait till all the 13's catch fire and than say problem fixed. and god forbid someone gets burnt what than

Cuznjohn, it just dawned on me that you need Adobe Reader to open .pdf files. You can get it free from their website. http://www.adobe.com/

Click on Menu at the upper right of their home page, the click on "Acrobat" at the lower left of the pop-up.

Summery:

Today we will provide the production data you asked for, through legal council and request it be kept confidential.

Over the next few days we will respond to a few other items.

We requested an extension for a few more (date not specified). And a few will not be answered at all.

In short, it says nothing regarding a response. Just a clock stop.

Hopefully as the remaining items are answered they will not all be confidential and we will see some of the responses.

I was told by Bob Young at NHTSA that BRP in all likelihood would request that some things be kept confidential that is, not released to the public.

Letter from NHTSA lists 16 fires related to fuel cap recall.
30 fires related to fuel canister.
3 fires for the Brake Master Cylinder

wonder why, don't owners have a right to know what is going on, unless a undercover deal is in the works. i doubt it but they make you think like that

Some of the questions involve BRP explaining how decisions were reached. Some involve marketing info that may benefit a competitor. Corporate espionage is possible if some of the answers become public.
BRP should not have to give information that will benefit their competition.

a few key points

Very interesting reading, thanks for posting.

Here is one para showing overall focus:
Describe all modifications or changes made by, or on behalf of, BRP in the design, material composition, manufacture, quality

control, supply, or installation of the following components: evaporative vapor canister (including, but not limited to, p/n

709000090); purge valve (including, but not limited to, p/n 709000108 and 709000443); roll-over valve (including, but not limited

to, p/n 709000413); and LH and RH body panels (including, but not limited to, p/n 7050006878, 7050006879, 705004626, and

705004627)

Another para of interest to me is
17.
Describe, in detail,the evaporative emission control-related differences between MY2014 ST-S with a C2EB model designation versus a MY2014 ST-S designated as a C2EC model.

What evap was on the 2013 ST ? Same for ST, STS, STL ? I have heard they moved either the evap or brake master cylinder for the 2014 ST, and would be interested to learn more about this.

Also interesting to note paras 22, 32 and 33 which BRP no longer has to answer - 22 was about a very similar fuel boiling, heat etc issue on an ATV - a heat dissipation kit released by BRP to address their issues.
They also don't have to supply RT 2015 (?? airflow) panels, nor answer the question about whether new panels will be provided to prior RTs.

Well worth a read.

They are trying to keep as much confidential as possible pursuant to possible Litigation! This is a standard legal move and has nothing to do with marketing.

The reponse letter clearly says BRP supplied a CD containing the data. We will never see that as they want it confidential.

This is BRP's initial partial response to Investigation PE14025 by NHTSA. If you have not read the letter from NHTSA to BRP, you will need it for reference to BRP' response. Here is the link for that:

The wheel grinds on.

Here is a link to the free Adobe Reader if anyone needs it:

This seems about like the start that I imagined...
Let us know when they actually get down to the, " rat-killing". :sour:

I'm interested in the same here......I still get boiling gas....just not as quick and not as bad.......maybe we need to get our hands on a ST 2014...take panels off and compare to the 2013 ST....I've had 1 new purge valve and 2 new roll-over valves....neither did any improvement.....time.....patience ....dig deep guys

I have Adobe and I can not open the files. The website for NHTSA seems to be down, that happened a week or so ago when the air bag recall came out. Have Spyder owners crashed the site?

It's all in the lawyers hands now....you all, the consumers, are screwed if you expect any favorable outcome in any reasonable amount of time....[emoji57]

As mentioned in another reply, I have no horse in the race, but honestly, seeing crazy stuff in aviation, I am in agreement with DrewNJ. Not being harsh or anti BRP, but with almost 50 units burned, they seriously should have done something on their own.

Stay focused and work together for a solution.

All the best with it and good luck.

Don't talk about lawyers. No hint of litigation. That is not what this thread is about. It is about looking at the information that is in the public domain right now, from both sides, and waiting to see what NHTSA will do. As I stated earlier in this thread, that is many months away. BRP still has to cough up a lot of stuff, and at this point, there is no indication from NHTSA how long BRP's extension will be, and if it is for all of the data or for some of the data. NHTSA has a fire lit under it's *** right now by the new head of the agency, who has decried the length of time it takes for NHTSA to get anything done. (Witness GM) If we are lucky, they will move fast on this & 2013 RT owners may finally get some sort of relief. As for how long this will take, that's anyone's guess.
