• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. THIS JUST PUBLISHED BY NHTSA

The rollover valve is right behind the handle bars and in front of the passenger seat. If you apply alcohol to it, it will probably malfunction.

:roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:

OK Dan, you finally manages to crack me up!
It doubles and a DUI no start device ;)

If your referring to the roll over valve for the fuel tank, then yes, it does. Its mounted to the top of the tank just behind the gas cap. The fuel tank vent line connects to it. Brp calls it a ROPS valve but I don't know what ROPS stands for......probably "roll over something or other"

Yeah, I know, long time responding. I have no idea what the rollover valve is, it is something that Bob Young at the NHTSA told me to tell my dealer to check. As with the Evap Cannister, according to BRP it was "within BRP specifications". Whatever that meant at that time, or now, I do not know. :bdh::bdh::bdh:Maybe we will find out in May 2015. :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

Someone is blowing smoke..... I have poured through my 2011 service manual in both the fuel system "troubleshooting procedures" and the parts lists. No mention of a ROP sensor or anything like that.

There is NO sensor listed anywhere like this. At least not for the 2011. If it was added on the 2013 then so be it.

Page of the parts list. Again no sensor listed.

After some more study of the service manual I did find this tiny tidbit.
This is in the service procedures for removing the fuel tank.

It's not a "sensor" but is called the "Fuel Tank Vent Valve".

I suppose this could have a ball or some kind of valve in it so if the bike rolls over it blocks the vent line.
To be 100% sure it has this, you would have to remove it from the tank and see.

But it is not controlled electrically in any way! I doubt getting alcohol on it would do anything! Just not possible.

Personally I do not see how this thing could cause any problems unless it "somehow" got stuck closed.
If it did, nothing would get to the Evap canister and I am sure the gas tank would become pressurized or something like that causing other issues other than a stinky Evap canister!

Just looked it up. Its called a ROPS valve. Roll Over Protection Structure. Part# 709000413 and lists for about $35

That part number is not in my 2011 manual. So maybe this is a 2013 thing?

However in the parts list I did find this and in fact it's the same thing I was talking about in the above post.
It's the part that goes on the tank that in the service procedures they called it a "Vent Valve".
Here on the parts list they call it a Rollover Valve.

So again it has no electrical connections so it's not a "sensor". It probably just has a ball bearing in it so if you roll over it closes off the vent line.

Again I cannot see this causing much of an issue and if somehow it got stuck closed, nothing would get to the Evap canister.

So again, maybe in 2013 they added something like Part# 709000413??? Or just a new part number for the same part on the 2011?

It's that little part with no number on your diagram above that connects the one hose to the tank. It's part # 53 on the 2013 parts list, and the diagram, in that area anyway, is the same as above. It's called ROPS. You can find it here http://parts.spyder.brp.com. It's part #3 on the diagram for the 2011 RS. There it's called Rollover Valve.

Edit: I just noticed I'm little late to this party!

Just another example of BRP's inconsistency in the use of nomenclature. Designers and parts manual writers must not communicate, and there must be no training and no BRP Standards in that regard.
