• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

NHTSA Investigation Process

When i filled out the form it wanted me to select a vehicle it did not have 2013 RTS SE5 listed. I had to type it in and a message popped up that due to it not being in the system someone would have to review it in 1-5 business days.

Hopefully there is some resolution for this before next riding season. On the plus side for those who ride in cold places, the excess heat should keep you nice and toasty warm.

I have a question....on NHTSA complaints on 2013 ST....all complaints from 10-31-2013 and back at the end of each complaint there is *TR or *JB...it's not the initials of the posters...cause 4 complaints are mine...2 with *TR 2 with *JB....anybody know what this may mean?

Hmmm, mine had a TR. Tuff Ruck? Seriously, I have no idea what it means. Did you just notice that or had your complaints always had the initials?

You can use the generic Can Am Spyder and list specific details in the complaint.

Once burned......

What Does It Take to Win Back a Customer?

The key thing any company that cares needs to do to win back customers is to put the value back into the relationship.

A company should make communication timely, relevant and personalized to the individual who had the negative experience.

'Opinion'

I filed a complaint a year ago and again just recent.... never heard back, I have a 2013 RT and officially can bake a chicken roaster in my vehicle which gets well above 225 at times

What I do not understand is why EVERY Owner in the U.S. whose Spyder has burned has not filed a complaint with NHTSA? In the investigation that was just opened, ODI only lists two fires. After looking again
at their website, I came up with the following:

Spyder: 19 complaints, 2 fires, one on 8/7/13 & one on 6/28/14.
RS: 1 complaint, no fires.
ST: 15 Complaints, no fires.
RT 54 Complaints, 1 fire on 7/26/14.

Total of 3 fires. I mean, really? Pretty sure that there has been more than 3. How are we going to get anything done about the problems with our very expensive machines if all the other folks whose Spyder has burned doesn't file a complaint? I have filed 2 complaints & sent them 3 Emails - which they answered - and finally an investigation has been opened. The more information that the investigator has, the more likely that something might be done.

If this sounds like a rant, you're probably right.

I posted above the whole list of fires that led to the gas cap recall. I doubt those were caused by the gas cap. There was some mention of the evap hose on those also which is why they put the clip onto the hose into the 2013 splash pan models but after burning I do not think they really knew what happened. The only true measures were on the ones that were sure to burn from the melting canister and MC they all would have been toast sooner or later. Did the tinfoil fix it? Probably not and now we can't even inspect those parts now that they are covered. Talk about a cover up..:dontknow:

Don't forget not every Spyder owner comes here so they may not even know about the investigation. What do we have maybe 10% of the owners here? And most do not post or even check in regularly.

What's surprises me is that only a little over 2400 members have viewed this thread and there are so few complaints, but if you search around this forum, there are more complaints than I can count, I'm happy that BRP is at least making an attempt to fix the 2013 ST's with the new 2014 air flow panels but that's not helping the RT owners who should have complaints through the roof especially if you're not the owner of a 2014 RT

what gets me are the owners that say they do not have a heat problem with their 2013 ST or RT....yet they had melted master cylinder and other things.....I fought with BRP to fix heat issues on my ST for over a year and finally all seems to be good....10k of trouble free miles...I also have 4 different complaints on NHTSA.....but yet there are many ST owners who have ordered new 2014 air flow panels and yet never filed a complaint with NHTSA.....BRP needs to step up and find a fix for the RT's...our 2013 Spyders have plummet in resale value.....

Yep, I fought and got my 2014 air flow panels and that was after I filed my complaint with the NHTSA, the investigator made it a point to drive up from DC to watch the whole process, tied up the dealer for over 3 hours and while he was there, also took pictures of any other bikes in the shop, at least there is some relief for those of us with ST's, but the RT owners are kind of stuck right now, I still believe the exhaust system needs redesigned removing the CAT from under the fuel tank, I eliminated mine completely and have no heat issues at all anymore, but if you think the panel kits are expensive, just imagine BRP paying the bill for all new exhaust systems on every RT and ST, I'm guessing that will never happen which is why they're not issuing a service bulletin and doing the panel replacement on a case by case basis

spoke to investigator today and provided a season of raw data temps, if they issue a bulletin and deemed dangerous they will be forced to do something... if they like it or not I could care less how much it cost them, If you ever called BRP its insulting. I'm from pluto and they are from Mars
