• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Thermal event

Ann, glad to hear what happened and that you had the great sense to do what you did at the time. Get yourself safe first, then think about personals.

I tend to agree with mouthpiece as well. Not just from a litigation point but a replacement point.
Now the interesting thing will be to see if:
1) BRP themselves replace the Spyder 1 for 1 or
2) Ann's insurance has to replace it which usually wont fully 1 for 1 replace it but give you the book value which is always less then off the dealer floor.

My opinion is BRP should replace it without going through insurance especially due to the service history!

Any votes on which happens?

Bob

I agree, you appeared to keep your head on right under fire ( bad word, retired USAF ).
Good luck and hope everything turns out okay.

So if I had to guess what caused the problem I would say the evap canister. I really do not think it was heat related or heat soak related. It was quite cool and I had not gotten any heat codes since before I left Las Vegas. I will report this to NHTSA and to BRP and I will let you all know what they say.

I am thinking about changing my user name from SpyderAnn01 to CrispySpyder or maybe FlamingSpyder. What do you think?

Flaming Spyder is OK, CrispyAnn is not.

Anne,
I never picked up on this thread... :opps:
But now that I've seen it; WOW! :gaah:
I'm glad to hear that you're okay, and your sense of humor even seems to be intact...
You were able to get most of your bags out; DON'T take that chance again
(But I hope that you never have to be exposed to the choice anyway...)

FlamingSpyder gets my vote too. You are quite a daredevil I would have "Run Forest run" as fast as I could. :roflblack:

First of all... Glad you are ok!!! That was a bad day, but at least you lived to tell it and uninjured.:bowdown:
Second... Girls on Spyders Facebook and Leira's phone was blowing up with posts and messages as soon as some of the Girls found out. I saw the pics there and all I can say is :barf::yikes:

Third... with that being said, and going with Chris suggestion as a Lawyer, I would be VERY cautious of what you write and post here, GOS, Facebook and any other social media or even the press if they interview you. I don't want to go into specifics in a public post like this, but companies tend to watch this kind of issues and look for ways to get out of it. In fact, I saw on Facebook yesterday evening people already making this a warning: shearing Ann's fire pictures from someone who wasn't a :spyder2: owner already creating a "Warning to all Spyder Owners" forwarding post. Although people may think this is helping, this kind of issue can come back and hurt someone's honest and truthful intentions to make it sound like a slander case. Again, I can't go into details, but as a LEO, I have seen cases where the evidence pointed to a guilty party but got thrown out because it became public when it was supposed to stay within the agency. Sorry stuff.

Again, Ann... Hope everythings turns out well in your outcome!

Glad you are ok hope everything gets settled to your favor quickly and that cause is determined.

Ann, Really glad you are OK!
I think ya should go with: Fireball Annie.....:yikes: If ya get another Yellow bike..... Fireball Annie on the Shortbus ...really sings...

Anne... Have been reading all the posts and am so grateful you were not hurt. My hat is off to you.... you really kept your head, stayed calm, and handled a very dangerous situation!! I think I have another :ani29: rider added to my 'hero' book!

Hopefully you will have a new :spyder2: soon! Will be thinking about you.

Phoenix comes to mind... add the flames like Bob D. did on his...:D

Sorry Bob!:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

If she wants flames after this episode; her sense of humor would be.... EPIC!:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
But Pete's got them if she wants them...
Actually; Don's flames look much better than mine... FastFrasier.jpg But I'd sure be honored if my design was chosen...

Things could be so much worse---

I'll tell you all this:

I have not even owned my 2012 Viper Red RTS-SE5 a year yet.....I have had boiling gas in the gas tank and reading these posts of the Demo Fire and hearing a lot of "HEAT" issues and having to have exhaust pipes wrapped and fuel lines wrapped to not rub on motor housing etc., is really scary and is causing my "Confidence" levels to dive!

This should NOT be happening to these Spyders--period. I would have thought BRP would have truly designed and tested these bikes good enough that none of us should have to lay awake at night worrying about their purchases.

If I wasn't so short and my wife tall, I'd switch to a two-wheeler or maybe an even more expensive 3-wheeled trike kit bike like a Gold Wing or something. I went with the Spyder for price and feel etc., was something my wife and I could do together but I do fear of bursting into flames like Ann and no one should have that fear lurking every time they are out on their bikes riding.

BRP had best be speaking up to all owners and doing something to fix this and to re-affirm all customers about this - or like someone else posted the Spyder will die away like the Ford Pinto--etc.

:sour:

I have to agree there! I hope her spirits are up, as it appears. I don't think mine would be so soon after such an event.

It is nice to see this turn from an "Oh No" thread to a bit lighter...

I'm also surprised nobody has come up with a "You know what burns my :cus:?" joke yet...

I wouldn't worry about your 2012 much. The heat issues on 2013s are way different than those of earlier models.

This will scare the :cus: out of me. We're glad no one got physically hurt, would this be a canary to be watching for?. In my case, I lost my right panel while driving on interstate highway. what if the people behind me get accident and cause damage and possibly fatal. Who will be responsible? BRP denied my claim for free replacement so far on my 2012 RT SE 5.:(
