• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Thermal event

BRP's stepping up to the plate on this one especially when you consider that another RT went up in flames at the DEMO in PA...I thought the fire issue was resolved from the 09-12 versions...I'm just glad to see that Ann's safe and BRP is going to investigate.

Sure glad to see BRP step up for Anne, but I do hope, for the rest of us with LARGE $$$ invested in 2013s, that BRP finds an answer. I already went thru the ball joint road wondering situation and, tho I, now, really enjoy my RT, I'm starting to wonder. Please, BRP, don't keep us in the dark!

A happy rider....so far,

Loren

Im really sorry this happened to Ann. It SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. This is not the second 2013 RT to go up in flames. This is the third one I have read about. One happened over 6 months ago. It was not as badly burned because a fire extinguisher was close at hand.however all the Tupperware was melted, the seat burned to a crisp. The bike was a total loss. After numerous letters to BRP the owner finally received a call. BRP was not interested in investigating the intact carcass and the owner was told to take care of it with her insurance. After six months of frustration, the owner finally gave up trying to talk to BRP. Possibly, if BRP had inspected that bike, Ann would not be in the position she is now.

Thank God Ann is ok. Finally BRP logs in to sypderlovers.com, unfortunately it took this incident to make it happen.

Welcome. First time, I have seen you post. I think you can find a lot of good things and a few no so good information on here.

Fire

Glad you are OK Ann. The Lord watches out for His own. I know this site is where you hear about our problems, but since I have been here (only 3 mos) it seems like the 2013's have a lot of issues. I have a 2012 RT S ES LTD and so far with 2,000 miles I have no complaints. I got it with 550 miles on it so do not have a full history. Did the 2012's have a lot of problems when they first came out? If so what were they? Is there a way to get hold of the service record on my:spyder2:?

The 2012s were probably the best year to have... They were the most developed of the original offering (the 2010 models)

Flash Gordon

Can someone tell me why the picture in the middle does not appear to have been taken at the same location as the two on each side of it. Notice the line of electric poles in the left picture, and none in the middle one? Also, the roadway markings are the same in the two pictures showing the wet spot and what is left, but the center photo does not have any broken white lines as the other two have. The lanes and concrete dividers do not appear to be the same. I think maybe who ever posted these three pictures may have made a mistake and placed the one in the middle in error. I think it was a different event. (just saying)

Seriously!?!?

Are you kidding? Sorry ... it's upsetting to have this serious incident picked at in this manner.

This one is really easy to account for, the picture in the middle was taken 180 degrees from the other two. Those "dots" you see in the left / right pictures are the "bright" reflectors placed as lane markers. The other side of these is typically a different color (red or amber) and not nearly as bright. Look closely at the middle picture and you can clearly see some amber lane markers. Thus, Ann was standing on one side of the spyder when the picture of the actual fire was taken and on the other when the other two pictures were taken.

Note that lane markers like this have been standard in CA for over 30 years (I grew up in the SF Bay Area). They are really useful at night because if you see red / amber in front of you then you know you are going the WRONG direction. They seem to be pretty standard in most of the country now.

Best Regards .... Ann

Steve, thank you for taking the time to post here I certainly appreciate it. Needless to say this was a frightening experience and I am thankful to have made it safely to the side of the road and off the Spyder before it was engulfed in flames, however, I am afraid that others may not have been so fortunate. It took the fire department a long time to get to me so there isn't much left of the Spyder for you to use in your investigation but I do hope that you will research the problems that I had prior to this so that you might be able to prevent this from happening to someone else.

I truly love the Spyder and even this event has not changed my mind about that and I really look forward to getting back on one soon. I think I may be going through withdrawal already. If I can be of any assistance to you please send me a private message.

You are most welcome! I actually couldn't believe what I was reading when I first saw the post ... I'm thinking "what the :cus:" this person can't be serious!

As others have stated, truly impressed with how you handled the situation and also with how you are handling the aftermath -- very professional, you deserve a lot of credit for all you are doing.:thumbup:

Best Regards ... Ann
