• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Thermal event

Wow Ann I did not know what happened to you with the Spyder until this morning.I had seen pictures which Reggy sent me but did not realise at the time it was you.I am glad to see you are ok and judging from the posts I have read since the incident mentally you are alert as ever.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Wow....

Wow... I haven't been out here in awhile (life getting in the way....).... and all :cus: breaks loose!

Really sorry to hear of this incident and glad no injuries. Sure sounds like this 2013 was a lemon from the get-go.... actually sounds like many 2013's are prone to being lemons.

Did we all do the time-warp and we're back in the summers of 2009-2010 again?

Evap canister certainly is a concern, but also the melted brake components could be a problem.... brake fluid squirting onto hot pipes has been seen on many 2013 Spyders.

2013 models are essentially like a 1st year model in my opinion. I think I'd lean towards a 2012 if you're wanting to stick with an RT.

Have not removed the canister on my 2012 RT yet..... but plan on doing it.

No way would I carry a fire extinguisher...... if mine catches fire.... I want it to burn baby burn to make sure it's totaled.

Glad Anne held it together and dismounted and emptied the bike quickly and orderly.....

Are you kidding? Sorry ... it's upsetting to have this serious incident picked at in this manner.

This one is really easy to account for, the picture in the middle was taken 180 degrees from the other two. Those "dots" you see in the left / right pictures are the "bright" reflectors placed as lane markers. The other side of these is typically a different color (red or amber) and not nearly as bright. Look closely at the middle picture and you can clearly see some amber lane markers. Thus, Ann was standing on one side of the spyder when the picture of the actual fire was taken and on the other when the other two pictures were taken.

Note that lane markers like this have been standard in CA for over 30 years (I grew up in the SF Bay Area). They are really useful at night because if you see red / amber in front of you then you know you are going the WRONG direction. They seem to be pretty standard in most of the country now.

Best Regards .... Ann

I don't believe you are correct about the '180 degree' photo. It appears to me that all 3 were taken from the rear of the Spyder, but at different distances, angles and zooms.... and two of them caught the sun just right to show the reflectors. You will notice the Spyder is always in the left lane and traffic in the right lane is moving away from the camera. If one photo was 180 degrees (taken from the front).. the Spyder would be on the right side of of the lane and traffic would be coming towards the camera.

These threw me for a loop as well.. just took some further study to see what the deal was.

Sad to see a skeleton of a Spyder like that.

:agree: ...with most of it. I carry an extinguisher to put out the fire on a burning rider...

Nice save Ann! To quote Frankstein's monster "fire bad".

So glad you are ok , it could have been a lot worse .Your location sure seemed to be in your favor at the time and you obviously were a quick thinker. As an ex fireman ,One thing I have to say though and this is to all owners , if there's a fire ...get away and let it burn. There is absolutely nothing in the bike that is worth trying to save and risking your life over. I've seen too many tank explosions and they aren't pretty , hot burning fuel just isn't compatible with flesh. High deductible or not , just let it go and get away as far as possible. With that being said , I'm going to be a lot more forceful with finding the cause of my fumes .Mine are so bad that I have to leave the bike outside the garage until it cools down and when riding in very slow traffic on a hot day the smell becomes overpowering , riders beside me can smell it......and before anyone says it........I DO NOT overfill. Just reading about this and seeing the results makes me wonder when mine is going up in smoke. Mine is a 2011 Rt and has had the problem since day one .

I have the same on my 2012 RTS. Have never overfilled it. In fact, took a 120 mile ride today, temps were cool (71) and sky was overcast. Got home and the smell was pretty tough. Put the fan on high to keep it out of the garage.

Note to Steve ..... BRP Customer Satisfaction Coordinator

SpyderAnn, we're very sorry to hear about what happened and would like to reassure you that BRP is taking this event very seriously; we will of course be launching a full investigation effective immediately.
Furthermore, rest assured that regardless of the outcome, we'll do everything we can to make it right for you.

Steve:

I was going to make this a private message but I decided to post this instead. it seems to me that the time for BRP to make it right for SpyderAnn, is long overdue. I only know what I read on SpyderLovers but my impression is that your company is losing this public relations issue.... badly.

From our standpoint we have now owned four Spyder RT's and have been considering investing in another set... this time 2014's. I think we will put this decision on hold for a while until we see how BRP deals with this important member of our SpyderLovers family. This is purely a personal decision... others can make their own, but it is something that you and your co-workers can think about.
