There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Stopping people from messing with your spyder

Thanks. I did figure out after you posted that I had incorrectly used one of the alarm wires... I hooked the blue to the 12v switched instead of the brown one from the alarm. :banghead::banghead::banghead: Now it can tell when I turn the key. No idea what that blue wire is for based on the wire diagram. Might have to do a Spyder specific one once I get all this figured out. :)

Posi-Tap are impossible to find locally so I used the typical scotch lock. The wires in the Spyder and on the alarm are about 1 size too small so the connection on the lights isn't holding. I will have to "massage" it, but will probably end up ordering the Posi-Taps. Wish they were cheaper, but I bet they will work way better.

Otherwise, the alarm looks good so far.

Thanks for the help and tips.

Well, a sign won't stop A$$wipes. One keyed my Spyder pretty bad yesterday. My friend has a beautiful new Victory and if you get too close, it 'alarms'. Short loud beeps and if you touch it, it goes off. I need to find something like that.

I'm sorry to hear that you've got to deal with this. :gaah:
Don't let the insurance try to tell you that the bike only needs a fresh coat of paint...
Those panels look horrible, when you paint over gouges! :yikes:
Good luck!

Sorry to hear that. I probably can't say legally what I would do to people like that....

The Spy 5000m alarm seems to be a good one so far. It will give warnings if someone is too close too long and goes ape if anyone touches it hard enough to vibrate it. Nice thing is that it will alert you via the remote also though I do find the remote is quiet when in a pocket.

+100! Glad you like the alarm. Mine works perfectly for exactly as you say. I recommend it 100%.
GREAT investment for $89 bucks and really easy to install.
NO ONE has been siting on my Spyder when I come out of a store or restaurant like before I had the alarm!
And yes.... that has happened to me before installing it.

I've been looking at the SPY 5000 also, one question.

Can this simply be disabled when sitting in the garage so it doesn't chirp everytime you walk by it, or does it reset all the time? :dontknow:

I am not familiar with the SPY 5000 to be specific, but every alarm system I have ever seen has to be armed and disarmed. So don`t arm it in the garage.

You can set it up to auto arm so it arms itself after the key is turned off. Or you can turn that off and then it must be armed by the remote.

Yes, installed this alarm ....like it!

This alarm installs easily and works just like I need it to. It's a cost effective measure to prevent "tampering". Also, we try to park in well lit areas and in public areas...but that doesn't stop someone from trying to do something. I came out from Home Depot and was catching someone who was going to climb on....they stopped when they saw me and then "asked" if they could get a picture (before I had the alarm)!

Just ordered the Spy 5000 based off recommendations here. The Gorilla 8007 was seriously lacking. You could sit on it and rock it back and forth and get nothing. In fact, I've had the Gorilla 8007 armed, forgot to disarm it, and rode it 3 miles to the gas station where I filled up, and only when I closed the seat did it go off. What junk!

Right now I'm thinking of having Lou at Priate Powersports put it on since he's the only guy near me that I know of. Although you're not far from me either Bob/finless.

Thanks for the recommendation, hopefully the SPY 5000 will work for me!

Ive had mine a couple weeks now, just need to find time for the install, looks like lots of wires.

It's not too bad. All you really need is constant power, ground, switched power, and right and left flash. The rest just get bundled up. I put mine in the battery compartment (2011 RT) and wired the switched power and flashers into the wire harness that is used for the trailer. I ran the main power to the battery and ground to ground. Make sure you mount or tie the alarm brain to something relatively solid if you want the shock sensor to work. I mounted the led in the GPS hole plug in my handlebars and I mounted it in the blank between the switches on hers. The microwave sensor I mounted under the seat.

If you want to meet up, I will install it for you. Shouldnt take long.
What year/model is your Spyder?

I appreciate the offer, & I might just take you up on it. The only issue is I have that other alarm installed on it that needs to be removed, & since I had someone else install it for me I'm not sure about the particulars on it. Would that be a problem?

Again what year / model is your spyder. I am only familiar with 2010-2012 and where the harnesses and fuse boxes are. If it's a 2013 or 14, learning will be involved. I don’t think it will be hard just take more time. I would tentatively say yes I could. If we started and I hit a road block, we just leave it and you go to a dealer. This stuff is not rocket science and I would bring my meters and probes to locate the wires we need. I believe all year RTs still have the harness under the left passenger grip that connects the entire ass end of the bike up. This is where we hook to for everything for the SPY 5000.

Bob

I have a 2013 RT. Today I'll call the guy who installed the first alarm and see if he will work out a deal to install this new one before I make you go out of your way. I'll post back here after I've had a chance to talk with him. And thanks again!

One thing I just thought of: I'm thinking of putting a sheep skin cover on the seat. Would that interfere with the microwave sensor?

It should not. The gain or sensitiviy is adjustable and trust me with it all the way up it is already too sensitive.
