• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shop time for...

front end alignment? Called two dealers within 50 miles of my home...one told me 4 hours labor, $300, other one told me 1.5 hours, $160. I read the alignment procedure in my Green Manual and it appears to me to be quite labor intensive. I like the $160 price better than the $300 but am concerned that 1.5 hours is not sufficient to correctly and thoroughly do the alignment. Any and all recommendations are appreciated. Thanks,

Could it be that one shop has the new laser alignment set up and the other does it by the old methods?

Could be but don't think so based on my conversation with both service departments. I'll specifically ask about the new laser alignment set up before going with one or the other.

How much do you trust your current dealer? If he's been doing a decent job for you; is it worth the extra money to keep a good dealer in your corner? :dontknow:

Alignment time

My dealer here has a fairly old laser system not one of the micro laser alignment systems. The owner was telling me the non technical version of how they do it using the laser and ruler.

The micro laser alignment device system took less then an hour to drive my Spyder in, then to remove the hub emblems, insert the device and set the reflector/markers, measure and adjust the squareness of the alignment box and recheck everything trying to prove it was out of alignment. Which it WAS NOT!

FWIW I would ask the high bidder why he is $300.00 to justify the difference in quotes or estimates?

Bob,

Both quoted prices are labor costs only...no parts. The $300 dealer estimate was for 4 hours labor and the $160 dealer estimate was for 1.5 hours labor.

Unless someone has actually used BOTH shops you're referring to; they're not really going to be able to knowledgeably respond as to whether the cheaper guys are as good or better than the more expensive guys. Have you used either dealership previously? If you have; you should have a better idea than any of us whether they give accurate time estimates, and/or perform quality work. Call the longer estimate dealership up and ask them about the length, be polite but tell them a different dealership gave a much shorter estimate. Or call any 'ol Spyder dealership and get a third estimate from them; see if it matches either of the first two.
