RT vs RS

NOT A CONTEST

Scotty this is what happens when riding season starts to wind down for a lot of us . :gaah: :agree: Since I obtained my :ani29: used I didn't have a choice in the model, never mind the fact that there was no RT . Initially I thought O why didn't they make the RT first...By then then I had already gone the Flamingobabe route and had started COMFORTIZING the RS . I added a large hard trunk w/pass. backrest , it holds 42 liters...and I'm building a lightweight ( 75 lb ) trailer ( 18 cu.ft. ) this winter so I have the tote-abilty thing covered. As far as ride comfort goes I've never had a problem w/stock seat I've gone 375 miles with only gas and pee stops without butt or back discomfort and I'm 64. I've been riding sno-mobiles most of my life and I ride my RS the same way and I think it handles great...I do plan to up-grade to RT FRT SHOCKS though....My homemade touring windshield ( turns w/the handlebars ) has a great dead air space and provides a lot of quiet for my ROCKIN (250 WATT) STEREO....Plus a bunch more little things.....altogether I haven't spent $ 500 in upgrades because I designed and built almost all my MODS I'm fortunate I was able to do this......So now since my MPG avg. is about 37 I wouldn't switch to an RT for anthing that I can think. SEE YOU ALL AT SPYDERFEST 2012 YA HOO :2excited:    I'll be at the DAY'S INN ST.JAMES if anybody want's to cancel or change their reservations :roflblack: LOVE YA MIKE

I love the Raw acceleration of my RS and can,t YET afford both. I sat on a RT at the dealer and loved it-If I took a test drive on the RT I,m sure I,d fall in love with at and I,m always figuring out how to have Both in my garage within 2-3 years!!!
I need 2 Spyders and 1 Jetski in my garage ---Instead of 1 Spyder and 2 Jet Skies?

I really prefer the RS as well. Again I think it a largely age gap discussion. I think your 20s to young 30s riders would sport Spyders more often. But they can get 2 wheelers a lot cheaper, and they are "faster", I think part of the way to really sell more RS's would be to market them toward adults that have 20 year old kids that want a bike. They would be basically paying the xtra cash for insurance in my opinion.

Just a thought if marketing is watching!

R.T. // R.S.

R. T. verses the R. S. , Well I'm 73 yrs old, & the R.t. & R. S. are different just like 2-girl friend's ,(hee-hee) both are nice, & both are different & both are FUN!! , & nice to own !!!

apples and oranges?

Both made by BRP, but this is like comparing the 1200 sporster to the ultra glide at your local HD shop.
Since the RT came out, it targets a group that until now has been stuck by the side of the road or fighting those big beasts. I won't say that the RS and the RT don't share some of the same target group. However, having had mine and SpyderAnn's side by side, They are nothing like each other in ride postion.

Personally, Disregarding, I'm not in the age group, frame of body or mind. I ride it like a sport bike, not a tourer, and I have no plans to ride it as a passenger. My choice still is my RS, Come sometime later in life, and if I choose to bring my dog, I might switch over.

Winterize hell! I'm still riding!

Yep, I agree; but, you made one error. Spyder ShopTalk is supposed to be for GS/RS models. The RT has its own RT ShopTalk. Check out the text underneath each one.

Actually you are correct. There is no separate GS/RS ShopTalk like there is for the RT.

So, you are 100% correct.

Started with a RS ,usualy ride 2 up, She wanted the comfort seat and passenger peg extensions,I had to have a LEO VIVCE ehaust with removable baffle. Only after adding widow pegs instead of small diameter stock pegs was I able to ride long without my knees cramping , plus they looked great. We rode from NE PA this summer thru VA ,WVA . After living out of the frunk and a backpack attatched to the backrest SHE started looking at the RTS. I liked the throttle response, the looks and the sound of our Spyder and was not interested in a RT model. She picked out a Black RTS and said IT was for my BIRTHDAY but I noticed it was titled in both our names. So for a few months I was fortunate to ride both. The RS was quicker, sportier ,louder, The RTS was more comfortable and had a ton of luxeries. I found I was more prone to ROMPING on the RS and Riding the RT. After adding some mods and a Two Brothers exhaust I was able to let the RS go up for sale. The RTS seems to handle wind and turbulence when cruising at a good clip on the interstate far better than the rs. I noticed I got less jabs in the ribs even when riding faster than on the RS. She feels more stable and comfortable when I am making time on the interstate, and the TBR pipe is starting to get a nice rumble after getting some miles on it. SO WE ARE BOTH HAPPY :)

rt vs rs

I have a rs and i love it. its very comfortable.
just got back from the fl coast to coast . started in jax and then to seffner.

Hmmm........Which Spyder should I choose ?

Recently there have been a couple of posts from other members who wanted to surprise their significant other with a new Spyder, and they asked for recommendations of what we thought, and what should they get. And it did not always turn out favorably, and trade ins were made.:opps: l

My point is, you can't necessarily predict who will prefer which model of Spyder. It is just a matter of preference. IMHO , they are all cool, and ultimately I hope we will own one of each !

It is not surprising the RT is outselling the RS, given the fact that the Spyder is not inexpensive for the younger generation, and the "older" generation begins to value comfort over style . Often times the older generation has physical limitations and ailments that make the RT more appealing, and they are able to afford the added expense to enjoy the open road.

But I do agree there is a time and place for everything. ..... Occasionally my other half ( artnufun ) will take us for a ride thru our city ( Amsterdam ) on our RS , and i affectionally will say to him ......" Ut oh ! " "You're gonnna terrorize our city AGAIN"
I can't imagine doing that on an RT...... But other times we take a ride in the country and wish I was on the back of an RT taking pictures, and not having to hang on. So....... I think it's all relative to your situation , and unfortunately, what u can afford ! HAPPY RIDING ! :D

We started out with the RT 2010. We always rode 2up. and very compfortable with it. Wife really liked the back corbin seat. After spyderfest last year we went on to Ohio thats when Cj got to do her first real drive. She did a 100 mi stent and really enjoyed it but the weather was cold and rainey so she didn't want to drive any more, but I think she was hooked then. Took the RT in for service when we got home, that's when she saw the pearl white RS and fell in love with the looks. Ended up with leaving with a new ride for her. 2011RS So this house hold likes both. She would rather ride the RS over the RT and I like my RT. BUT now she has her new twobothers dual exhaust and I'm thinking if I was younger OH YEY Besides its safer on the RT for me I have to protect my license for my job if you know what I mean. Hat off to both they are fun machines either way.

Do I understand correctly, Carol now has a Twin-pipe 2 Brothers (groundpounding!) exhaust ?
