There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT vs RS

RT for me all the way. Yes I'm in the "age group " and the comfort is what I want .......plus my wife said it was an RT or no spyder. Didn't want to argue with her.

We take quite a few long distance trips and only stop for gas and eats so comfort is what we need. Being able to sit up straight for long distances is a lot easier on the back for both of us , plus the wife would not be able to sleep on the RS like she does on the RT.

I think they're both great, the RT is the ultimate luxury touring model while the RS is the smart choice for sport touring. I'm very grateful BRP offers both. It widens the appeal for Spyders and the more of us the better.

We are lucky we now have the ability to choose the model that best fits our needs.

I have to agree with ARNTUFUN.
I like the looks of the RS better than the RT. I had my RS equipped with Corbin bags and 1" risers. Kind of a "Sport Tourer" that did it's job over 75,000 km and Coast to Coast riding. Looking forward to the comfort of the RT and trust I can do some serious klickage now that I have a machine built for comfort and Cruise Control, audio, heated grips and all the bells and whistles (Well as many as the RT-S has anyway). Great topic Fast Fraser. We are ALL winners. It would be interesting to see if the tide is shifting from the RS to the RT in Sales. it did for me

I have had both models and over 20,000 miles on each of them. I have always like big touring bikes so lean towards the RTS.

In 2008 only the GS was available--so that is what I got. I did deck it out with over $6K in farkles trying to make it into a tourer--It looked like a tourer--but was not a true tourer.

I traded the 2008 off for the RTS when that model came out in 2010. There is a big difference in the way it rides compared to the RS. I rode someone elses 2009 RS after owning the RTS for a year--it was like night and day. The RS seemed stiff and uncomfortable, but was much snappier in performance. To me, it seemed I had jumped on a 'crotch rocket".

For me: I like the RTS better. All have different opinions, likes and dislikes--that is why they now make more than one model. Spyder is a unique machine and I am happy I have had the opportunity to own both models.

Isn't "Model Myopia" a great thing? You only have to see what you want... Kind of like the old "Aspencade versus Interstate" sniping amongst the Gold Wingers from many years ago...:gaah:

In the perfect World that rattles around in my tiny brain I'd rather see us all picking on Harleys or something... :roflblack: (JK!)

Love my RS and love my RT, does that make me a bad person? ;)

When I started this site there was no RT and I set out in the early days to make it more comfortable for the long haul and still keep the sporty look. I think I did that as much as could be done but I never thought I would be putting the miles on the Spyder like I have and now the RT suits me better. I'm not old and I can still hold up a 600hp V8 chopper but for me the RT is about as good as you can get for the long haul. I would still like some changes like I've posted here but till then you will most likely see me on the RT and not the RS when I'm traveling. As far as the RT looking as cool as the RS, that just depends on what you are willing to do to it. :doorag:

:agree::agree::agree: Hit the big 50 this summer ,have owned and ridden alot of different bikes and still can. Just happen to like the SPYDER , As far as feeling old I married the Babysitter 6 yrs ago, and she is the one that didnt feel comfy with my feet stretched out and my hands in the air on 2 wheels ! I dont feel the RT model makes me look old, I hope.:D

If 100 Non-Spyder owners in each of there age bracket were polled, these are my predictions for the outcome of the model choice they picked.

If I were a betting man, I bet these would be close and you can see why the RT is doing so well. The RT's have four age brackets to the RS's two. This should explain the RT's domination.

AGE BRACKET % RS % RT

20-30 --------------98----- 2
30-40 --------------75---- 25
40-50 --------------35---- 65
50-60 --------------25 --- 75
60-70 --------------10 ----90
70 + --------------- 2 ---- 98

I currently own an RS, but am changing models/upgrading (yes it is an upgrade to me because of extras and pricing). I love my RS and it is one of a kind. However, I have two extensions on the handle bars and I still ride straight armed. If I were only going to be doing local riding I would stay with my RS, but we plan on doing lots of long trips and the RT will be much more comfortable. I like the windshield that I can raise and lower.... like it to be higher (like my Harley was), I like the handlebars being closer to me, heated hand grips, extra storage, handling..... well I have heard many many good comments on how well it handles expecially with the Elkas. Also since mine will be a performance RT I will not lose any power, and gas mileage will be pretty good.:doorag:

Maybe a good poll would be how many miles do you ride on your RS vs RT. I know you trailer and camp a lot and that's cool but most of us RT riders like to ride to our events and that may be why you don't seem to get the draw there, it's not necessarily an age thing Bro but a miles in the saddle thing. :doorag:

If there were a poll on miles My vote would go to the "not enough" catagory :(

I have an RS, and I do not think I want an RT at this point. I have always had two wheels and this was my first three wheeler. When I bought it they did not have RT's, as far as long trips go.. I don't mind having to stop a little more frequently to stretch or move around. Makes the trip less hurried and enjoyable as far as I am concerned. I have never been one who thinks you have to get there in a hurry. :-) I was fortunate enough to ride on a RT in Sturgis and I do admit it is very comfy. But, still think I will wait before I "upgrade"... At least for a few years. :-)

Your 100% right. If I had to drive the Spyder and not trailer it to places or events, no doubt I would have to make alot of changes to my Spyder or get an RT. I always thought 15+ hours on the interstate on my Spyder would not be enjoyable at all, but since I have never tried it I dont know for sure. You got me on that point.

I did put 8k miles so far this year which is the most ever I put on any bike in one riding season (April-Nov). I know thats not alot for some, but it was for me considering I do trailer it alot.

Holly is always telling me kind of the same thing as your saying. She says something like the journey is part of the destination or something to that effect, but I'm the type of person that can't start to enjoy the trip until I get where I'm going. I can't explain it. :dontknow:

will i see im in the 98% rider i like the rs and thats what ive got but the switch is the craping of my knees on my rs after about 30 min i need a brake so the rt is where im going to.but im not old yet only 72 and feel much younger, but i do need the comfert of the rt.:chat:

RS all the way for me. No knock on the RT but I perasonally don't like the look of it. Definitely wouldn't be happy with the performance or the fuelly of the RT either, so I'll stick with the RS thank you!

I don,t like BRP,s marketing of the 2012 RT-
1-For 21,7 you only get that metalic color and no semi-auto choice?
2-For 23,5 (25 with auto) you have metalic or Blue. I don,t care for either.
3-So now I,m at 25 (27,2 with auto) to finally get a Red!!!
If I were to add a RT it would be a basic model with auto and either White, Yellow or Red color (Visable)?

BRP markets it so you are SORTA forced to go to the higher end models. (Guess thats Good marketing?):dontknow:
