• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

regarding HID lighting

I installed a set of HIDs on my 2010 Spyder RT. 35 watts, 6000 Kelvin including the ballast and wiring harness at $40 for both units.
I've bought from these folks before for my 2005 Tundra headlight and fog lights HIDs.
When you get a hold of them, the tech people are great and will walk you through if you have any tech issues. I had a reverse polarity problem on my left head light connector. Just turn the plug around and it worked fine.

Correction on units to buy...dual lights.

Those are also the folks I got the setup form my BMW LT. It didn't have a relay and I had some problems figuring it out. But, yes, they were great.

That's the same company a neigbor and fellow rider advised me to use, and that IS a great price.

Things I like about A&R's set up.

The kit includes a relay circuit to protect your factory wiring.

Why is a relay circuit needed?

HID kits require more power during startup.

The relay switches power directly over to your battery to keep your factory wiring from melting and burning out your expensive ballast.

The circuit also includes a module which protects your factory head light switch.

Or you could an HID kit from one of the site sponsors out here...... ;-).

Could.

And not to hijack Larry's thread, but I'm looking for a system that I feel confident will not throw codes. Based on other posts here - that has been a problem. While I'm no expert at this, the way H&R's system is wired in and with their relay setup, one would think it would circumvent that happening. But, I'm far from knowledgeable on this subject.

Most trouble with HID systems on the Spyder comes from where the ballasts are placed, not how they are wired. nojoke

Word is they should NOT be piggybacked. Got that.

Where's the right place to put them?

Any air flow areas up under there? (Haven't been in that part of the Spyder - yet.

It is not just a heat issue, they sometimes cause RFI interference along the CANBus. You'd have to talk to others for specific installation locations that worked well, but the farter away from the cluster, sensors, and main wiring harness the better, IMO.

Ah, so it's a shielding problem. Most likely there's a cure for that.
It can be a shielding issue. They can also induce noise directly into the electrical system (especially from a bad ballast). Remember that shielding can induce heat issues. Tougher nut to crack than it first appears. I recommend placing the ballasts temporarily, then testing the Spyder. If all seems well, go ahead and button them down.

I apologize for the late reply but I just saw this thread and figured I would comment as well (just in case someone is still reading this). XenonDepot Xtreme HID kit ballasts have EMI shielding to prevent any interference. It is also not suggested to "piggyback" the ballasts together as another member posted earlier in this thread. We have had many spyderlover forum members install our HID kits and have not had any interference issues!

This is so true...

Another issue is the Spyder wants to turn the headlights on right away after starting, right when there is not enough voltage to light them up properly.
You may get one to light and not the other or get luckey and have them both start.

The ideal solution would be a delay of a few seconds after engine start or a seperate switch to power them up.

I'm not sure how the $1000 + BRP HID's are setup to work and get around this.

Thanks for the clarification Steve. It did come a little late ;) but, hopefully it will be helpful to others who are looking to do this mod.

leenanj: Xtreme ballasts have a super low starting draw meaning that the auto light feature should not be an issue with our kit.

Jerbear: My pleasure =)
