There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:agree: Every oil change since the 600 mile service. Make sure it says MOTORCYCLE oil or you will have clutch issues.

AMSOIL 10w-40 synthetic motorcycle oil. Depending on the year and model it is 4.12, 4.4 or 4.5 qts Here is some info that will help you with your oil change. Ken krb1945

Spyder recommended maintanance No. 2010-1 Front sprocket screw retightening (all models) at 10,000 km (6,000 miles) one time. On certain vehicles, it is possible that the front sprocket assembly settles reducing the clamping force of the screw on the front sprocket. To maximize durability of the splines, the screw must be retightened. Warning: Screw must be torqued to 110 N/m to 120 N/m (81 lbf/ft to 89 lbf/ft).

I know I'm probably the only oddball of the bunch here, but I use 10W-40 Max-Cycle Royal Purple. This oil is specially designed for wet clutches and have had none of the problems that some are having with their SE-5's. Be sure to get the stock no. 01315. I've used Royal Purple in all my race cars, motorcycles, and street rigs for years with no issues at all.

Changing it to Mobil 1 4T as thats what was in the store. The Rotella T shelf was empty!:shocked:
I'm planning on having the Rotella sent out for an oil analysis so we can see how it does.
You guys ought to send some of that Amsoil and Royal Purple out for analysis as well so we can compare.

Just changed my oil and both filters on my SE-5 yesterday. Ordered the filters, O rings, and crush washers and Amsoil from krb1945 (Ken) who sells Amsoil and is a fellow SpyderLover/Owner. In a past post by Ken he gave a link to important data on Amsoil and many other brands which included comparisons in a variety of tests. Amsoil ranks highest in most catagories. Maybe Ken will re-post that link, or point to the prior post so whoever's interested can read the report. It's PDF format and a long read, but loaded with great information on oil.
After riding today with the Amsoil, I noticed a considerable difference in the shifting. Very smooth!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Amsoil that is....

UPDATE!! There is oil talk going on on another thread and there is just too much good input About Amsoil. I may have to change course and go with that instead. Ken, expect contact from me very soon regarding this. You guys sold me!! I know I was pretty set on Mobil-1 but the evidence seems pretty compelling. :thumbup:

Oils for hot weather
Here in Venezuela is getting difficult to find imported motorcycle oils.
I have been always worried about using 5W-40 oils, as per BRP specs, in my 2009 SE5 in this weather.
Temperatures around here are in the 90-100° F year round, with peaks of 110°F or more in August.
I have found these oil brands and types in a motorcycle shop nearby.
All comply with the required SAE rating, as not one is labeled SM.
Motul 7100 (full sint) 10W-40 (+/- US$12 per liter)
Motul 7100 (full sint.) 10W-50 (+/- US$12 per liter)
Motul 5100 (semi sint.) 15W-50 (+/- US$7 per liter)
Will be glad to hear your educated opinions about the use of these oils in this kind of weather, instead of what BRP indicates.

Makes 2 of us. I have used RP 10W40 for over 40K miles on our SE5. NO transmission issues! Had the creeping that a lot of riders have had in the early models. After the first use of RP, the creeping was GONE and stayed gone.

Well after reading through all of this it looks as if my Spyder's getting a drink of Amsoil before it gets put to bed for the Winter...

I use the Motul 300v factory line 10w40 which I got online for $52-4 liters. The other Motuls you show are good but this one compares to Amsoil and may even be better.

Not sure if available in Venezuela; like I said, it is getting a royal pain to find imported motorcycle oils here.
Again, my intention in this thread is to find out about using much "thicker" oils in this hot weather, instead of 5W-40´s.

Mobile 1 Racing 4T in mine and in two other Spyders that I've serviced, and BRP (by request) in a another Spyder that I service. All are SE-5 by coincidence.
