• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Maybe another GPS mounting option?????

Hi guys! I keep looking at the BRP GPS system and the $1200 price tag gives me gas... My son and I were out car-buying and he had a suggestion:
Could you get a Bluetooth GPS and a compatible earbud and just mount the unit in the top trunk?
You'd save a pantload since a decent GPS can be bought for well under $200 and while I'm not sure about the earbuds; could they possibly cost $1000??? You've even got a power outlet back there.
His thinking was that the unit sitting out in the open begs to be "mis-appropriated" by somebody who's not too lazy to steal, but just lazy enough to not want to actually take the time to go get one of their own at a store...
Question... Do you think that the concealed mounting would prevent it from picking up satellite signals?
Thanks!

I am using my cell phone (Sprint EVO 4G) with GPS on and broadcasting to a Bluetooth receiver in trunk. The phone can either be in the rear charging or in the GIVI 890S Universal GPS carrier I have for the handle bars. I have run a charging port up front so I have my phone plugged in, capable of phone calls through my Scala headset, broadcasting both GPS and Pandora Internet radio through the Spyder sound system...all is great! :firstplace::yes:

Since I already own the phone I don't need a seperate GPS unit. Total cost for GIVI and wiring around $100.00!

BOB look on my modes .. I use the plug&Play bluetooth car-version

I was kind of trying to set up a stealth-mounted GPS that didn't cost the arm and the leg that BRP gouges us for... I was figuring that with an earbud, the thing could whisper in my ear where and when to turn.
Besides... too many screens to look at and I'm bound to miss a pretty girl in a bikini somewhere! :ohyea:
SyderRyder and Chris56; Can you guys sned me any pics and/or specs of what's needed? I am tentatively looking at a Garmin 1390 since I can throw that in my Jeep when I get tired of the Missus chding me for my inability to navigate out of a phone booth without getting lost...
I think that I'd just need an earbud to link up to it.
So these units DO find satellites while in the trunk or bags??
