Excessive Heat has been a problem

You guys should have learned by now, you're not going to stop me from saying what I have to say.

I have enjoyed my spyder as much as time has allowed and over that time have had many positive things to say about those experiences.

But, when it comes to the heat issues. I'll be equally honest.

If that bothers you. That's your problem. Not mine.

Find someone else to try and intimidate. Because it won't happen with this Ol boy.

That's a fact.

So, what exactly do you hope to accomplish with these threads? If you have a solution to propose, or if you are wondering if there are any new solutions, that's one thing.

But to just open up a complaint thread every few months for the sake of standing on your soap box, then it get's old.

You're starting to remind me of the old preacher who stands on the corner uptown reminding us we're all going to hell.... Everybody ignores him too...

Before this thread falls apart...
Jer's got a gripe...
We've seen lots of solutions in here that might help him...
(I'm not sure if he's tried any...)
Rather than try to silence him; just offer up the best solutions that we can, and see what he does to then help himself!

If you had me on ignore this post would not exsist. Nor would this response. Might I suggest......

The choice is yours. Not mine.

You have every right to complain here on this forum and if you want to keep doing so, go right ahead. However, in my opinion, continuous complaining here on this forum is not going to get the issue resolved even if BRP is monitoring this forum.

If I was you and I had heat issues, this is what I would be doing:

I would first get any and all service bulletins related to the heat performed on your Spyder to make sure it's up to date. Then, if the problem is still happening, I would figure out when the heat issue was happening. write it down, then re-create that issue and take your Spyder to your dealer and show them the problem. Your dealer, if they're competent, probably has a pretty good relationship with BRP and hopefully would be willing to work with you and BRP to get the problem resolved.

I'd also call BRP (since they don't like to answer any e-mails from what I've seen here), and get a case number. Then work with your and BRP to solve the problem and don't let them off the hook until it is solved. I wouldn't yell or rant or complain (at least not much), I'd try to be nice and just stick to the facts of what the problem is and keep asking them what they are going to do to solve the problem and when it will be solved.

That's what I would do.

You, of course, are free to do what you want.

Sad thing is, you have plenty of good stuff to contribute. If I were to put you on the ignore list, I would miss that stuff also.

I simply don't understand why it keeps coming up. We are all aware of the issue, many of us have handled it through various means.
My thought / logic process does not allow me to continuously be unhappy with a situation. I either fix it myself, or eliminate the problem. If you have tried some of the bolt ons, and they don't work for you, OK. If you haven't tried any, and will simply complain until BRP gives you a fix, well, that is your option, but it's also a huge waste of time. BRP will not offer a fix for the older units. Their fix was the design change in 2014. That's it. It is what it is, and to continue is really nothing different than complaining because the sky is blue, or grass is green. Join the rest of us, and put on your rose colored glasses.... ;)

Rather than try to silence him;

Why you guys try to silence anyone with a legit problem has always puzzled me. Is it for sport, or points with BRP? Are there incentives for carrying their water?

As far as possible heat remedies go. Like I said, SL is replete with them. Cut, block, drill, remove, shield, etc etc. Pick your poison. Your results may differ.

Jer,
Have you actually tried to implement any of the suggested fixes? :dontknow:
It's easy to sit back and complain...
Just sayin'...

I guess we could ask the same question of you...

I already gave my point of view above.... As for my personality, I would never make it in Customer service. I DO have a desire to help people with problems, but also have little tolerance for people who complain just to be heard...

Please enlighten me just what has BRP OFFICIALLY done or recommended to fix an issue they know about other that using tin foil? Even the latest update say MAY HELP heat issues. Sorry but I am with Bear until they put something out there that say WILL help then they are not doing enough to help people who spent $30k for a defective 2013 after touting the "improvements". What improvements in under Tupperware higher heat temps? Maybe a better vented upper panel? For free? I should not have to drill or modify any vehicle to keep it from catching fire or melting. JMHO

Tony, thanks for your suggestions. Actually, I have done each one. Not, going to bother you by replowing the same ground. As has been said, BRP may have fixed it. With the 2014. Let's hope so. Also, suspect I'm finally near a legitamate fix that will suit me. It has taken time to develop because I want it to both work, and not look like it was designed by an ax man. You know, a corvette with pinto tail lights sort of thing.

Have hand picked and applied the practical ones. As stated in another post here. I'm close to my fix. What is being missed here is this isn't just about me. I'm just a voice for the -many- that are/or have been intimidated into silence over this issue.

Let's see...
ECM updates...
some new scoops on the RS & ST bikes...

They certainly should count as "steps"...Are they a complete solution? :dontknow:
Time and temperature will tell!

Unless BRP is paying for the scoops, I will not change them if I have to pay. They have not done what we need, the ECM was done on my bike and is not running without HEAT, Saturday it was about 58 and the bike was running HOT, the real test will be mid summer when is 90.

if you don't want to say what you are trying i understand, but if you can pm me on what you are trying maybe i could help with some suggestions. just thinking. i have tried to stay off this topic because of the comments i got when i posted about my heat issue so i am really interested in what your thinking about. and feel free to keep posting what you feel

Then I'm cool with what you're doing! :2thumbs:
Just be sure to let us all in on the secret...eventually! :D

heat fix /jer bears bitching

as far as heat fixes go I found the most productive for me was to remove the cat and havethe header pipes and bypass wrapped ,this has helped a lot, now for all you brp cheerleaders jer bear opened this thread if you don't like what the man has to say hit the back arrow and go somewhere else to blow brp smoke up peoples butt THE MAN IS ENTITLED TO HIS OPINION AND HOW HE EXPRESSES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SWEAR SOME OF YOU GUYS ACT LIKE YOUR GETTING A PAYCHECK FROM BRP BY THE WAY I LOVE MY SPYDER AND ALL OF MY OTHER BRP PRODUCTS

Yes, Bob, time WILL tell. But until time has told, it looks like they are still looking for the solution. I will NOT be cutting any holes or buying any fans until BRP tells us the "problem". These "steps" look more like "guesses" than cures, but I will be standing by.

:agree: For the people who HAVE the heat problem BRP is doing just enough for sufficient time to pass hoping the problem people fade into the sunset!!!

This is wrong and my Plans to trade for a ST are OFF until the Heat Problems get fixed or the people get a just compensation on a trade -in.nojoke

:agree:......I don't have a 2013 so I haven't commented...I feel bad for those who are frustrated,as well I would be...We all need to support all of those who are still needing their Spyders made safe...No matter what year we own..

Did a quick google of Harley Davidson heat issues. It returned 1.3 million results
Same search for honda Goldwing heat issues returned 4.4 million results.

Lots of kool aid out there....

Unless there's some new technology out there that I'm unaware of, Internal combustion engines produce heat. How it's dealt with is another story.

As I said before, placing a heat exchanger right next to a body part (foot) wasn't a bright idea. I don't even want to speculate on what kind of "creative engineering" caused the 2013 heat issues, but they do seem to be on the right path with the 2014 - we'll see as summer comes.
As for BRP fixing the issues of previous years, Here's my 2 cents.
Pre 2013 - there were lots of "comfort" complaints. No safety issues that I can recall. Expecting a fix for this is like me expecting a fix because the seat in my 1997 Dodge makes by a$$ fall asleep.

2013 - BRP did offer a "fix" for the heat issues - which were much more intense than earlier models, and in many cases were direct safety issues. I don't know if what they offered fixed the problems, but they should be "on the hook" until all safety related heat issues are completely resolved.
