Excessive Heat has been a problem

Well I sympathize and empathetic as to the issues seeing I have them as well.

I also agree some on this sight over compensate and throw as much gas on this fire by cheerleading the charge of hoe great BRP is.

I have spent just around $3K to resolve this issue not including my time which is valuable. My dealer are good group of guys but frankly they do not have much faith that if they would have dome the work i did that anything other than those things forced on BRP my the NHTSA they would not be reimbursed. So rather than take chance that the cost to me would be more I decided to take it into my hands and further plunge and fix this stuff and frankly I am more qualified than any of the engineers at BRP....why? Well because my hands are not tied by some peter principle Eng Manager, tight wad Purchasing Manager, or enviromental regulations or big company politics. To further detail the process in my decision it was like this....I would take about a $8K or more kick in the pants on trade for a 2014 and that trade would be better? How could I even think it would ? Because some "cheerleaders" say so? Those who highly praise the Spyder as though its perfect are not realistic "no bike is"................ right?

So, I choose the lessor of two evils. I will say I really like the idea/concept of the Spyder and I like riding it so I spent the money to fix it.

Tell you what I spent over $3K so I feel if they do not want to here me bitch and complain then give me back that money in credit for BRP swag or parts etc.........and I might be convinced that they care..................They are lucky to have a customer like me I will fix their poor design issues and make the Spyder what it should be...............a cool machine.

I don't know if you're referring to me, when you mention the "cheerleaders" in here or not...
But I've been accused of it in the past! :D

Was my 2010 perfect?
Nope...
I had two separate throttle body issues, a TPS issue, a brake light issue, AND a windshield issue...
But it was, and it remains, a GREAT bike!

I have always been supportive and sympathetic to the folks that endure "issues"...
IF, and ONLY IF, they take an active role in finding solutions!
I tell my Missus: "If you just want to complain; go cry to your girlfriends. Talk to me when you're ready for solutions!"
There's currently no real viable competitors out there yet for these machines. (I'm not considering conventional trikes in this conversation.)
So; we can either fix the flaws, and ride, or park them, and gripe...
Me? I'd rather RIDE!!

i still think a exhaust fan is needed to be made so that it can move the heat out from under the body, if BRP reads this i think this is a great idea

Ditto! I'm not trying to downplay any serious issues, but there is a difference between heat issues that cause things to melt, and heat issues that cause the right foot to get uncomfortable. I've experienced the latter, and took care of it. As for the former issue, I'm lucky enough to get into the game a year before the "faux-pas", so I can't personally speak to those accounts, but certainly wouldn't take BRP's side if someone found a melted brake reservoir. That is a direct safety issue, and should be treated as such.

I haven't defended anyone here, just stated reality. BRP will fix the hot foot issue when I win the powerball jackpot twice in a row... It is what it is, and complaining won't change it.

Bob I was speaking to those in general that act like any complaints are unfounded and without merit then go on say how great the Spyder is as to infer those of us who are spending a great deal of our own money to fix a MFG issue are not being genuine or we complain and whine to much. So it's only you if you think you do this?

I do not recall specifically but go back on this thread even some suggest to just buy the 2014? how totally irresponsible is that? heck buy another machine not knowing if you are purchasing more trouble and at the same time to trade a low mileage 2013 and take it in the shorts on trade is good solution?

hey like I said I really like the concept of the Spyder but this heat issue (not hot foot) is costly and really inconvenient if I wanted just improve some things and add farkels that money would better spent there not fixing the issue the factory should be doing but they seem out of touch on this.

The other issue is the long term problems of deteriorated wires and hoses.

but it anyway I am taking steps to make the machine good to go and also like I said I have far more confidence in my ability and other members ability to deal with these issues than BRP.

in the mean time I am going to get my $3k worth of complaining in........

I owned both a 2009 RS SM5 and a 2010 RTS SE5 - neither bike had a heat problem - even with my very big feet on the top of my great Seal Floorboards. Neither machine was perfect, but heat was never an issue - even when riding on the desert side of the state, or other hot areas.

I do believe BRP made a serious error (perhaps several) with the 2013, which will cost them more that they know, before confidence in the brand returns and grows. It will take several years of Honda like reliability to reach that goal. Just ask Hyundai.

JMHO

Your right on

as far as heat fixes go I found the most productive for me was to remove the cat and havethe header pipes and bypass wrapped ,this has helped a lot, now for all you brp cheerleaders jer bear opened this thread if you don't like what the man has to say hit the back arrow and go somewhere else to blow brp smoke up peoples butt THE MAN IS ENTITLED TO HIS OPINION AND HOW HE EXPRESSES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SWEAR SOME OF YOU GUYS ACT LIKE YOUR GETTING A PAYCHECK FROM BRP BY THE WAY I LOVE MY SPYDER AND ALL OF MY OTHER BRP PRODUCTS

Maybe a lot of these guys dream job to work for BRP , I have always said if your watching TV and do not like the show then change the channel .

For thousand time it's a forum , but you have dictator ship on here . If some thing is said that does not fit your fanny , then people want to shut it down with heavy criticism . I guess at Spyder lovers it's not all love all the time . One who spends thousand on some thing should not have to modify 3 days after purchasing it .

Okay Conspiracy Theorists.

While combing through the 2013 owner's manual and service manuals I noticed something.
Seen below are two places where the 2013 electrics are set for more than one cooling fan.

A tech mistake?
Probably,View attachment 84995

but if you want to think that value engineering cut the two radiators for the 2013 then I can't stop you.

VERY INTERESTING

What else could it be?

What does Rogers post have to do with an under tupperware fan :gaah:

:banghead:
Maybe nothing... :dontknow:

But; if the electrical system has the capacity for another fan???

I know the '13 STs have had serious heat issues, but I've not heard the same of '13 RSs. Is that just perception or is there a difference in experience? After all, they are pretty much the same bike under the Tupperware.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I also have a 2013 RSS no heat issues there..only my ST-S have the heat issues.

Nice investigation, Roger. The fuse listing label does make it seem intentional: 1. Fan(s)

Sooo, is there a recall for an additional fan that should be issued, or not, because of the expense of such an improvement?

A very good catch. If value engineering was the culprit--it will be interesting to see if the situation gets rectified. IMO: the damage to the brand and the company far outweigh the cost of a second radiator (EDIT: or fan). :bbq::bbq:

I don't think that you could stuff a second radiator under the bodywork with the 2013 and prior configuration...
Isn't that where the oil cooler resides?
But a second fan??
