There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Dealer Recall Surging Suggestion

1. 4.5
2 5.0
3 4.0

Seems to be doing good for me. Stock air filter, 2Bros dual carbons ad super unleaded 93 octane

I notice my running ruff between 3300-3900 RPMs, don't matter the speed or the gear.

Same here....

Had the update done on our '08 SE5 last week. I'm on the third tank of 'super-duper' fuel... no change - still has the surge situation.

No mod's to engine, exhaust, transmission, or electrical.....

I solve the problem by selecting a lower gear to keep RPM above 4,000 RPM... no issues with that.

I just came home from a 30 mi run after filling with super. Son of a biscuit eater. That rocket between my legs grew hair.:roflblack:

went out today to check mileage and the first thing i noticed was that it was running ruff 3300-4000RPMs and I got 33.1 MPG riding two up. Filled it up and it appears to be running fine now. I have not filled up yet but that looks like it has also improved 120 miles and half the bars, will check tommorow. 87 octane and in the high 80 all day.

As I stated in another thread, I had mine done two weeks ago tomorrow, and after approx 300 miles, it is now starting to sputter, backfire and miss. Ireally notice it sputtering/missing around 20 mph to 35 mph.
Can just the fuel update be un-done ?????
I want it back like it was :gaah:
same for me after the update, surging backfiring, hesitation and it also seems to have less power, i just want it back the way it was. just for ur info i only use super fuel also.

The Aprilia version of our V990 engine runs 11:8:1 compression - and thus requires premium.

I guess high compression is a relative term.

I'll switch to Premium if it is indeed required after this update.

I'm confused by the post about the evap. canister - I cannot think that BRP corporate would ever tell a dealer to bypass the canister or why this would change how it runs.

Anyone????

My Spyder has always run great on 87 octane, per the manual.

So this "Steering Recall" has me concerned.

If I don't have it done and later have a steering issue-BRP can say I told you so.

If I do have it done_ I may ride away with a problem Spyder.

I think I'll take a chance and wait a little while longer and see if there is a software change to the change.

Had a different dealer do a second update today. ........no change......still sputters, miss and backfires at a steady speed around 20 to 35mph. :gaah: (they did check the throttle position sensor also)

:agree:In addition to compression, operating temperature, timing and mix also affect when you get knocking. That is why is so confusing that the owner's manual recomends regular and the dealers recommend premium (and apparently the experiences of a lot of members of this forum favor premium). Hard to believe that is a manual typo. Most vehicles that require premium have a label saying so around the gas cap. I will try to get a straight answer from BRP on this, maybe some others with better contacts should try too.

So I go in next week for my "update" and I am very worried....I have had no problems whatsoever. I usually run high grade fuel, so no worries there. I will make sure I run a few tanks of high grade next week (I have a long trip). I hope my dealer knows what he is doing, I am not impressed so far.

Got out and road this morning had 3 bars of gas left, seemed a little sluggish, but wasnt what I was seeing after my 9 hour trip. I fueled up with 93 and it ran fine, but I havent ridden it long enough to know if it actually makes a difference....i think it i, but I also think my mind is now playing tricks on me.

Actually I think there are more of us that tried premium and had problems than those that think it runs better--- seems awhile back many of us tried it and had tons of problems. Maybe that has changed.

I can say that today I rode about 30 miles and things seemed good- stopped for lunch--- drove down a major 4 lane road and noticed terrible sputter with keeping static throttle in the 3,500 range. It was really hot out today.... 90 ish .

Going to do my canisterectomy tomorrow-- not because of this - but to get rid of fume/fire issues. Not sure if or how that would help this issue, but I'll wait before adjusting my fuel pressure just so I don't change too many different things at once.

This thing gets more frustrating by the day! ... I originally posted that my only problem was that the "Check Enging" light stayed on after the steering recal.

Yesterday, I took a 135 mile ride after filling up with premium. As usual, after about 5 minutes the "light" came on. After a few more miles, no difference at all using the premium. At about 60 miles, .... engine light went off! Problem solved - or - so I thought. At the next stop, upon accelerating, it started sputtering, surging - you name it! At normal higher cruising speed, it seemed to smooth out. Check engine light came back on and remained on for the rest of the ride. Continued to surge and sputter (sounded like it was misfiring) until I got home.

When I throttle up hard, it seems to be ok. At lower speeds and/or light throttle is when it seems the worse. At a steady lower speed in 5th gear, the thing sounds and acts almost like the BRP "Nanny" has kicked in!

Back to the dealer Monday - but, a little more insistant that they do something.

I do hope BRP is monitoring all of the threads on this expaning problem.

I'm running Evoluzione's O2 sensor modifier, Remus exhaust and K & N filter with the tubes removed. No JB or PC. Has been running great for almost 16 months BEFORE the recall!!!

Sounds like the number 2 main relay is giving you fits, that controls your FI. I would change it out and see how she acts.

After the update Mine also does the same. Lot of back fires, hesitation, surging and a few times engine just killed for no reason.:dontknow: Sometimes while coming to a stop and while driving.:dontknow: :yikes: Also engine has a miss now and then.

Seems like BRP came up with a hell of a fix for the steering huh. :gaah:

I had a gw1200 that did the surging and...

My wing mechanic who I knew for more than 30 years told me to go to BoatUS or West Marine and get a bottle of valve tech carbon guard. Use one ounce for 5 gallons of fuel. If that did not solve the problem then there was a definite problem. I tried the carbon guard for 3 full tanks of regular fuel and machine never ran smoother. My SM5 just got the update but it has a hindle and it now does the surging between 3000 and 5000 rpms.

I haven't tried the carbon guard yet because I haven't been to the marine store yet.

Carbon guard restores the detergents that the tree huggers were successful in getting removed from the gas. If you have a slight carbon buildup it is probably glowing igniting the gas before you are at full compression. I haven't looked to see what the spray advance is on this rotax but in the past I have seen some injection systems be as much as 10 degrees before.

You guys that are having the surging need to pull a plug and see if you're running lean. Your plug should look like the plug on the left.
