There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Dealer Rankings Question

Is the ONLY information available to John Q Public the Silver, Gold and Platinum designations that BRP assigns????? It is my understanding that Can-AM/BRP has regional rankings for dealerships/service facilities. Is this information readily available, and how do you access it????????????????????????
Thanks

this would be great information for all Spyder owners to have. Are you saying there are two designations? One is the silver, gold and platinum ratings by BRP and another regional ranking by BRP also?? I would think that info would be available somewhere or somehow. ;

The question has come up many times. There have been many answers--all over the board--as to what constitutes the Silver, Gold, Platinum rating.

Many members would disagree with the rating given to certain dealers concerning the above. We have a few here that have granted the designations of copper or lead to some of the dealers.

Your best information comes from the users of the dealers and not from BRP ratings (sorry BRP).

I suggest asking about a particular dealer. You will find out very quickly.

OK, I just Googled BRP dealer ratings. they rate the dealers as follows:
* BRP Certified (silver) ------------------ Meets BRP Standards
* BRP Gold Certified --------------------- Exceeds BRP Standards
* BRP Platinum Certified ---------------- The Best of the Best

then when you search for a dealer it has their designation (or none at all??) My dealer has no designation, however has only been a Spyder dealer for little over a year.

AAAhhh but the definition of the word 'standards' is the key.

The standard that I have heard bandied around is how much the dealer has invested in Can Am inventory (machines, parts and accessories) and if a certain dollar amount is reached the 'standard' has been attained.

Spend more money and the standard is exceeded.

Spend a bunch more and you get to be platinum.

Now, that may not be true but I have never had it officially disputed either.

:agree: x 2. How much money dealer was willing to invest made a difference. I got this from a very good source, who shall remain unknown. :roflblack::roflblack:

My rumored understanding is it also has to do with how much a dealers sells and REMEMBER thats not just Spyders but the entire BRP line like Sea-doo.

I Was Trying To Dig Deeper

than the Lead, Copper, Silver, Gold, Platinum designations. I was hoping that there was a solely customer based rating system available for public consumption. some people like me research what they're buying and who I'm going to spen my money with.

Without knowing too much about this business in particular, I think it all comes down to money and volume. Someone stocks and sells more of my product then I would give them a high rating, regardless of their work. Nature not of "the" business but of ALL business. The Better Business Bureau is a good place to start. There is a big Victory, CanAm Yamaha, etc. dealer 1/10th of a mile from my house. I go to the dealer that is 9 miles away. The one by my house has a BBB rating of D and their service department has 87 unique, registered complaints. No-brainer.

If you start to dig "deep" you might just find the doo doo patch. :roflblack::roflblack:

What most of us are saying is that there does not seem to be a true, for real, answer. I still recommend researching dealer x or y by asking for customer experience. What was good or bad last year, may have changed. Most of us are looking for good customer relations and good service for our machines. Dealers that can do that are #1 in my book, regardless of how many jackets they have on the rack or how many F3's on the showroom floor.

A couple quotes that come to mind for me are
"I'ts all about the money." and "You get what you pay for."

What I have been reading over the years is that a top rating does not always equate to a top dealer.

The dealer where I bought my Spyder has one person, a young kid, who does all the maintenance. If you call and say you want to schedule service on a Spyder, and he is busy, you get put on hold . . . and after several minutes, someone will pick up the phone and say: "He must be busy, call back" and hang up without taking a message . . . that is their idea of customer service.

I brought my 2013 RT Limited in for the recall in the Fall of 2013, where they insulated the charcoal canister, and master cylinder. My parking brake cable had melted and they had to replace it, as well as the charcoal canister and the master cylinder . . . and when I got it home, discovered that the new parking brake cable was not connected to the rear brake . . . and the assembly to which it would connect was missing . . . that is their idea of quality maintenance

I had to take my Spyder to a custom trike shop to get the state inspection, because the dealership does not do inspections . . . or even get them done for customers buying new Spyders from them . . . more of their idea of customer service

Everyone I know with a Spyder in the area has lost all confidence in them for maintenance . . .

Yet, BRP lists them as "Gold"

I strongly expect it is all about how many dollars they make for BRP, because they sell a lot of Spyders . . . as they undercut all the other dealers in the vicinity on new Spyder price.

Well, that's pretty sad.

Judging from your location.. I'm guessing your dealer is the same one we bought our Spyders through. If it is the same place, they've actually had some good mechanics there but they don't seem to stay very long.

Your words are a little crude

but they cannot factually disputed

There is a BRP dealership about 13 miles from my house. We went there when we first became interested in looking into buying a Spyder after having to sell my Harley. (Back Surgery gone wrong). When we walked in we stood around waiting for someone to help us. When nobody seemed interested we turned to leave when finally a sales person came up and asked us if we were looking for a bike or a Sea Doo. I guess it matters what you are shopping for as to the type of help you receive. Long story short, all the 2014 Spyders that this dealer had were still crated up. All that was on the floor were 13s and 12s. He offered to take us to the back and open a hole in one of the crates so we could peak at one. I declined. As we were leaving a young man came over and whispered to us about another dealer that had 2014s on the floor. I judge a dealership by how they treat someone on first encounter. Needless to say this dealer ranked at the bottom.
We drove around 30 miles to this other dealer and we were greeted when we first walked through the door. I got to talk to the shop foreman and was shown the shop and introduced to the personnel working that day. We bought our 2014 Spyder there and have had the initial service done. The shop foreman has personally helped me with things I was doing to the bike over the phone. Something he did not have to do. I don't care what rating they may have. With the help and services I have gotten from this dealer I will drive the extra distance.

Wow all the info makes me feel better, thx guys. Fyi i have 10dealers N.S.E.W. of me. My closest dealer is the 1 not even in lead ranks. Pure trash, they sell the can-am side by sides & happen to have spyders too but dont know JACK. So from my preferred dealer 100miles away i had privilege of learning how those JD Power surveys hlp & add up the rank system that plays a part in their unit cost. Better rank=cheaper unit. More room to play with sale tag. ........ Not so much how much they sale. Was good to learn & still best to trust your gut on how you feel about a dealer. U get in a bind on a trip best to stick with the certified guys. I give props to Bradford marine. Ive visited 3locations all pleasant & helpful. Not pushing sales but asking "how was the ride?" kind of people fyi & they are happy to tell ya where best place for lunch is close by. Again good reasons for me to not stay local. (1other thing about local the nxt closest dealer offered me discounts just for visiting, knew my area & had to rub it in.) Make it worth my time to NOT stay local. Would like BRP to do like HD with reasons to visit each dealer like shirts/collectables (now they got HD poker chips each dealer has own unique 1. Most do shirts & yes i collected enough to make a quilt. All in good time.
