• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Credit Card Hacked!

If you are travelling and intend to use your card make sure you let your card company know the dates and where you are travelling. I forgot to one time and the card was blocked about half way between Maine and Florida and I couldn't get fuel. Called the card company and they opened it back up for me.

My card was blocked on the way to Spyderfest. This was a MC that I don't normally use. I travel for work, been to VA, CA, NE since Spyderfest, and never have a problem with discover.

I had my Discover card number stolen a few months ago. Someone in Detroit was going around to a bunch of gas stations and charging about $100, several times a day sometimes. Over $2000 in charges at these gas stations and they did not catch it. When I called they tried to say I made the charges and my card had actually been swiped. Sent to the fraud unit and no issues, they see this all the time. We went over all the charges to confirm the purchases.

Years ago my CC co. Called and said "we have seen unusual activity on your credit card in the last few days and we are calling to check. There have been charges at a liquor store, video store and online poker web sites"

I said "Yep, those are mine"

True story.

Jail

Happens a lot, But don't hold your breath, If you think someone is going to jail, The card companies just pass the losses on, [To all credit user's] It's easier than to find and lockup the thieves.....

Probably true in most cases ... unless you spot the transaction before the credit card company does. I did so on one of Spydercowboy's cards a few years back and called the merchant to find out if they had record of the transaction and if the also had a name. Turned out they did, so we were able to file both a police report (with the perp's name) and also dispute the $30 charge -- it was the receptionist at a local doctor's office that quit the same day she stole his card number (and who knows how many others). She ended up spending 3 days in jail, paid court costs plus a 3K fine and was on probation for 3 years -- another offense in that time and it's off to jail for her.

In another situation with one of my cards, the credit card company caught it because of 5K in golf equipment that showed up -- didn't match my spending pattern. This idiot didn't have the sense to specify a different mailing address for the receipt, so the merchant pulled it from the credit card and sent it to me. Had the name and delivery address of the person that stole the number .... I think they went to jail for a couple of years on that one too.Sti

Still ... probably not the norm .... Ann

I try to use my credit cards as little as possible (gotta keep the farkleitus under control), and most places I use my debit card or cc ask for an ID. When I travel to Philippines(my angel's home country) I'll call my bank and give them the travel dates and register the trip with the state dept, and I leave most of my cards& DOT physical card at home since that has my social security # on it.

All I can say is WOW!!!! I can't believe the number of cards being scammed out there! This was a first for me. Someone last night was telling me about those credit card readers. i don't know much about them, but I guess someone can just walk by you and get your card number from your wallet or purse. They now tell me they slip their card inside of some type of sleeve that blocks the card reader from gaining access to your number.

I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm a "technological idiot"--I don't understand how all this works. But now, after reading all these posts I'm getting super parinoid about ever using my card again! I'd still like to find the ***** person who used my card and sit on their chest while I make them eat the card!! Probably the nicest thing I can say I'd do to them on this forum!!! :banghead::banghead:
