I know others have stated a good service dept is essential and I believe it now more than ever.
Its been over 3 weeks since I had the update at the dealer I bought it at and things went bad, occasionally getting the check engine light with scrolling "CHECK DPS", surging, running hotter than normal, no power, and didn't matter if JB was on or not.
Since then a dealer near where I live applied for their license to sell can am products so I took it over there 2 weeks ago. I was a little nervous because I knew I would be their guinea pig but didn't think they could make it any worse.
They said lets try and fix the steering issue first and then work on the engine. They ordered a new DPS unit per BRP to fix the check engine light and scrolling "CHECK DPS". It came in on Tuesday of this week and they installed it and recalibrated everything. They tested it on Wednesday and the error codes were still there.
It took a day for them to get in touch with BRP techs, as you can imagine they are real busy with everyone's problems, so they could help them see if there was something else they were missing. They walked them thru everything and if I am not mistaken it had something to do with how they were erasing the fault codes. They test road it to make sure the error codes wouldn't come back and called me today to come and pick it up.
When I arrived he said they were able to fix the steering thanks to BRP's help but it still had a little surging and the new update for that should be along soon. So my expectations weren't that great but at least I could ride it and to the canisterectomy myself.
So I leave and the steering feels pretty good. I watch the temp gauge start to rise, since it is 95 outside, but it stops at 4 bars. I keep waiting for the surging to start, but it doesn't. Instead of going straight home I decide to ride around a little, in town and out of town. Forty miles later it hits 5 bars a few times but the fan comes on and cools it right back down. I stop and turn the JB on to Lamont's last settings and ZOOOOM!!
I'M HAPPY AGAIN!!! :2thumbs:
hyea:
I don't know if it had to do with the new DPS or how they got rid of the fault codes, but it fixed EVERYTHING. Back to running like it was before the update. I believe the surging the service guy felt was just the normal hesitation the Rotax has since this was their first spyder.
So maybe it is just how good your service dept. is. How one dealer can do 20 downloads with no issues and another one does 4 and three of them run like mine did. I am just glad my new dealer wasn't afraid to call for help until they got it right.
I will take it out for a 200 mile ride tomorrow and see if it stays fixed, but for now I am optimistic.
Thanks Wild West Honda service dept.
