• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anyone else got water in the battery area?

A while back I changed the battery on a 2020 RTL. At the time, I found some water around the battery. I looked around, but didn't find anything that looked wrong.

Well today, I washed my Spyder and since I was getting ready to go on a trip, I thought I would check the battery terminals make sure they were tight. The battery was completely wet; the outer fuse box covers had water in them, but the inner covers inside were dry. The only thing I did was wash it; no high pressure or anything like that, not even a hard spray!

I started checking, and it is coming from the top by the frunk - behind the top seal of the frunk there is a big gap! So you need to check this if you wash or ride in the rain.

When I get back, I will be talking to the dealer about this. It's a bad design! Tomorrow, I going to try to do something with it for my trip.

Anyone else seen this? If it gets in the fuse block, that would be a major problem.

You do realise that if your 2020+ Spyder is anything like the earlier Spyders (I'm sorry, I can't recall exactly if they are or aren't atm - I've been away for a week, it's been a loooong ride home today, & I just got in! But I suspect they ARE just like all of the rest! ;) ) then the battery is fully exposed to the weather, any water spray, and the open air that gets in from behind the frunk? :dontknow:

The cover in the frunk is just to keep the water out of the frunk, & not off the battery, cos if you peer in past a wheel, you should be able to see the back of the battery - see the pic; it was taken from behind the front Left Wheel, looking in towards the back of the frunk where the battery is mounted; you might just be able to make out the battery cables and the back of the battery itself, in front of the alloy looking block... (sorry, no flash handy, so you'll hafta make do with my feeble attempt at lighting it up! :opps: )

Similarly with the fuse covers in the frunk - the 2 covers you need to remove inside the frunk to access the next inner sealed covers on the front of the fuses/fuse block are intended to stop any water/spray getting into the FRUNK, so you're good to go just so long as the inside of your frunk was dry and the inside of the second/inner sealed cover on the fuse block was dry too, as you told us it was...

I reckon you are worrying needlessly - you washed the Spyder, so THAT'S where the water you saw today came from, cos the battery & the outsides of the fuse blocks are fully exposed to any water spray in &/or around the wheel & front suspension area and those covers you removed only to find things behind them were wet are simply there to stop that water getting INTO the frunk!! So if they did stop the water getting into the Frunk & into the fuse block itself, which is sealed under the second inner covers, then you're good to go! :ohyea:

Just Sayin' :2thumbs:

On my 21 RTL, I discovered I did not properly instal the cover in the Frunk, and water was coming in from the back side when washing. Easy to do......Take a closer look!

Battery is not in a sealed compartment. It sits among the front suspension and is fully exposed to weather and road grime.
