• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Could it really be that simple?

I know others have stated a good service dept is essential and I believe it now more than ever.

Its been over 3 weeks since I had the update at the dealer I bought it at and things went bad, occasionally getting the check engine light with scrolling "CHECK DPS", surging, running hotter than normal, no power, and didn't matter if JB was on or not.

Since then a dealer near where I live applied for their license to sell can am products so I took it over there 2 weeks ago. I was a little nervous because I knew I would be their guinea pig but didn't think they could make it any worse.

They said lets try and fix the steering issue first and then work on the engine. They ordered a new DPS unit per BRP to fix the check engine light and scrolling "CHECK DPS". It came in on Tuesday of this week and they installed it and recalibrated everything. They tested it on Wednesday and the error codes were still there.

It took a day for them to get in touch with BRP techs, as you can imagine they are real busy with everyone's problems, so they could help them see if there was something else they were missing. They walked them thru everything and if I am not mistaken it had something to do with how they were erasing the fault codes. They test road it to make sure the error codes wouldn't come back and called me today to come and pick it up.

When I arrived he said they were able to fix the steering thanks to BRP's help but it still had a little surging and the new update for that should be along soon. So my expectations weren't that great but at least I could ride it and to the canisterectomy myself.

So I leave and the steering feels pretty good. I watch the temp gauge start to rise, since it is 95 outside, but it stops at 4 bars. I keep waiting for the surging to start, but it doesn't. Instead of going straight home I decide to ride around a little, in town and out of town. Forty miles later it hits 5 bars a few times but the fan comes on and cools it right back down. I stop and turn the JB on to Lamont's last settings and ZOOOOM!!:D

I'M HAPPY AGAIN!!! :2thumbs: :ohyea:

I don't know if it had to do with the new DPS or how they got rid of the fault codes, but it fixed EVERYTHING. Back to running like it was before the update. I believe the surging the service guy felt was just the normal hesitation the Rotax has since this was their first spyder.

So maybe it is just how good your service dept. is. How one dealer can do 20 downloads with no issues and another one does 4 and three of them run like mine did. I am just glad my new dealer wasn't afraid to call for help until they got it right.

I will take it out for a 200 mile ride tomorrow and see if it stays fixed, but for now I am optimistic.

Thanks Wild West Honda service dept.

And unless you live in New Hampshire . . . .

Always refreshing to hear about a good dealer - :2thumbs:

. . . . unusual, too. :dontknow:

Interesting points Batmobile, with complex systems, you can never tell.

Having lived in Houston for many years, you are going to have to go farther than 200 miles to see something interesting. :D But, the ride should be fun.

Enjoy!

Glad to hear you can rejoin the Houston badass gang again! Check the Texas board so we can see each other again!

Will do!

Had time for 100 miles today and still running great.

So I definitely agree with others that it is the tech that installs the update that determines if your spyder will run afterwords. If they don't follow the steps exactly, miss something, or don't recalibrate all they are supposed to you don't stand a chance in my belief. I just hope they aren't too proud to call for help.

. . . . We are DOOMED!

But that is me. Given my experience with dealerships and service techs, I have a very strong bias against them. They get my vote for the weakest link in the Spyder chain. ( and several other products and services )
When I read about other riders describing their positive experiences with competent, polite, involved and informative service departments - well it almost brings tears to my eyes. I am glad for them, but until they experience the dark side, they cannot possibly appreciate it enough.

These are the people who put our Spyders together. They service them and keep them road worthy. Our lives ride on their work. They (should) have the experience and involvement to be able to tell if a Spyder is handling and running normally.

I often wonder how many issues riders are having start with a Spyder being uncrated and assembled? I know this is my bias and prejudice, but it is based upon a fair amount of observation and experience. I cannot wait until I meet the service department that changes my mind.

JB Settings

You mentioned Lamonster's latest JB settings; would you please post them? I have it pretty well dialed in but would like some other people's input. :spyder2:

I have the TB Single exhaust.:doorag:

Remember how many were delivered to customers without the temperature sensor installed properly. (that's a dealer setup issue)
