Apple Car Play download initially failed! NOW Finally available....

I just did some checking on my 24 spyder RT ACP system.
I know that when ACP is active, you BT connection with your iphone will be broken. But also found out when ACP is greyed out, (no headset), My iphone will connect with the spyder only when the USB cable is disconnected, as soon as I connect the USB cable the BT connection drops.
Any one else see this problem?
Thank you for the posts about not hearing phone calls through your cardo head set, I guess I am not alone.

I think that's normal. Same thing happens in my car with CarPlay.

11 pages of comments on the ACP on the new models.... Have a 2022 F3L and use Carpuride ACP unit that i payed $189 bucks for. It is powered off the accessory connection by battery. Bluetooth to I phone and bike. I have a wireless 5.0 music receiver which I got from Lamonster for $25 bucks that is plugged into the front compartment USB port which gives audio for map directions from bike speakers set on AUX. If I want to listen to XM via through phone,I set bike radio to bluetooth. New models sometimes come with a few bugs that Engineering needs to work out but will in short order, but for older bikes, there are alternatives.

Ya, mine does the same thing

Ok, just checked my IPhone 14 Max with ACP in making and receiving phone calls. Like mentioned above, everything else seems to work (haven’t checked “messages’ yet). Wife called me, her name and call showed on the Spyder display but when I touched the screen to “accept” she said she couldn’t hear anything. Tried calling her, same problem. Will call BRP customer service and let them know about this “glitch”.

Hopefully this is just a configuration issue. If they missed something so obvious after nearly six months of delays I'm not going to be terribly happy.

I was able to get ACP working too. Yay!

Had to jump through 8,472 hoops in the process, but finally got the update downloaded, installed, and set up with my phone and Cardo. I’ll spare you all the error messages, although my favorite one was “not enough battery power to install.” I ended up having to forget my wifi network, phone and Cardo and add them back, etc. but it’s all working now. I find it amusing that it’s called “Ski-Doo” in the ACP settings on my phone. Husband always says that BRP should have named the on-road products “Land-Doo.”

All I have left to do is customize ACP on my phone to remove the random apps it thinks I want. Really, Apple, does Libby (library app) seem like a good idea while I’m riding? I don’t see using Calendar a lot either.

But ACP is here and it works!

I am also experiencing Phone issues with my 10B Sena headset.
Maps, Radio, and music all work fine.
Reading online last night, I noticed the BRP communication headset is USB ver5.0
I am thinking it has to do with older headsets. Anyone with a USB ver5.0 experiencing issues with ACP phone function?
I think you meant Bluetooth version not USB version.

USB4 2.0 was released in 2022 and basically doubled the speed of USB4 that was released in 2019.

As of today there is no USB version 5.

However, Bluetooth 5.0 was released in 2016.
The current version of Bluetooth is 5.4, which was released in February 2023.

My Sena 3S Plus Boom headset uses Bluetooth 5.1.

All of the information Google found says that all Bluetooth versions are backward compatible with older versions, even versions 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0.

Everything you wanted to know about Bluetooth, and probably a lot of information you don't care about:

https://www.dusuniot.com/blog/how-bluetooth-1-0-2-0-3-0-4-0-and-5-0-compare

Edit: Google did not find a "Sena 10B" headset.
It did find an HJC 10B headset, which says:

"Based on SENA’s SMH5, 10B..."

And it appears that the HJC 10B headset uses Bluetooth 3.0.

Update on my 24 RT ACP,
I was able to get my cardo pactalk bold configured to my spyder so I could listen to music from ACP from the radio or music from ACP.
I was able to switch from speakers to head set with the switch on the handle bar.
I was not able to talk to siri. When placing a phone call, I was able to hear the other person talking but they could not hear me.
Don't know if this is a one time event or not.

Got out for a ride, initially everything was good. Music was playing, map was showing.

Stopped for lunch. While waiting to get going again, got a phone call while I was seated in parking lot. Hit the Answer button, no audio anywhere. Not through Spyder speakers, not through headset. Took off helmet, gloves, and answered the return call manually, which worked of course. So phone calls do not work.

Was at a red light. Got text message. Touched it to have it read back to me. Got 1 second of garbled noise, then nothing. Music quit. No audio from anywhere, was not able to play back message. Music playing on screen, but no audio from anywhere. Unplugged iPhone, plugged it back in, music worked again.

In both cases, toggling audio from Spyder to Headset didn't do anything.

I have not done the full reset yet, I guess that's my next step. But so far I'm less than impressed. ACP works in display-only mode, but completely falls apart when it tries to do anything interactive for me.

I updated the software to get ACP on my 2024 Spyder but unfortunately, I don't use an iPhone. I have an iPad, but ACP is not supported on iPad. Oh well. Maybe my next phone will be an iPhone.

I just did some testing on my 2024 RT Sea to Sky, to which I had previously downloaded the Apple Carplay update.

I took my iPhone and helmet out to my Spyder.
I have Sena 3S Plus Boom Microphone kit installed in my helmet.

I turned the key to on, but did not start the engine at anytime during the tests.

First test:
iPhone not connected to the USB port in the glove box
Sena headset powered off
Results: Apple CarPlay icon shows up on the display, but it's grayed out.
Message on display when I touch the grayed out CarPlay icon: No phone connected via USB.

Second test:
iPhone connected to the USB port in the glove box
Sena headset powered off
Results: Apple CarPlay icon shows up on the display, but it's still grayed out.

Third test:
iPhone connected to the USB port in the glove box
Power on the Sena headset (which I had previously paired via Bluetooth to my Spyder)
After a moment (10-15 seconds) the Apple CarPlay icon activates, and displays icons of some of the Apps on my iPhone:

Fourth test:
Ask the CarPlay app to navigate to an address stored on my iPhone, my local Walmart
Results: the map changes to show several paths from my home to the Walmart with a box showing the address of the Walmart, that it has a 68% "like" rating, and the ETA for my arrival using the fastest route, along with a large "GO" button.

I stand corrected on Bluetooth/USB versions.
I went on a 3-hour ride today, all CarPlay apps worked good, including headset audio for maps. The phone function makes the call but no audio in/out over headset. Some practice and learning navigation of left control buttons.
I reached out to BRP support and opened a Case for the phone audio. BRP support said they will pass it on to Technical.

I'm glad to hear CarPlay worked while you were out riding today.

I'm planning to try it tomorrow morning, when I make my normal run to get a Sunday newspaper.

It would be nice if phone calls worked, but it's not something I would use.
I'm old, retired, and most of my family lives on the US West Coast, so we mostly have group conversations via email.
If I needed to make a call I'd pull off somewhere, remove my helmet and hold the phone in my hand.

But it would be nice to have an option. :D

I've been thinking about this, and I wonder if you have to separately pair your headset to your iPhone via bluetooth in order for the phone to use the headset during a phone call?

And then I decided to check the documentation for my Sena 3S Plus Boom headset and it says:

The headset can pair with multiple Bluetooth devices such as a mobile
phone or GPS via Mobile Phone Pairing, Second Mobile Phone
Pairing and GPS Pairing.

So it appears I can pair the headset to a GPS device and TWO mobile phones.
Which raises the question as to whether it thinks my Spyder is a GPS device or a phone.
So I guess I have some configuring and testing to do.

Hopefully they can tell you what the problem is, if its on there end, or our end, and it would be GREAT if they could come up with detailed instructions for the correct pairing of your iphone, spyder, and head set for the new ACP system.

Good afternoon from Spain. I have managed, after many attempts, to connect to my Wi-Fi network. When connecting to update, the screen shows the new features and a wheel with a dot spinning and the sign Getting ready to update, I've waited like 10 minutes and it doesn't stop or do anything else.
Does anyone know what can happen or if I have to wait longer?
A signal must appear that can be seen according to the progress of the update or something similar?

I think the wheel and dot is an indicator that says it's not doing anything.

When it started downloading on my Spyder it showed a download "bar" that filled in from left to right.

The first time I started downloading it started the download, but then it paused and never seemed to resume.
So I canceled the download and then restarted it and the second time it completed.

So your network connection might be part of the problem.

Good luck.

I reset my unit and started over.

This time I paired the Spyder to Bluetooth Channel 1 on my Cardo, and my iPhone to Channel 2 thinking maybe that would improve things. It did not.

CarPlay is happy and starts up. Now all I get is sound through the headset, could not figure a way to get sound to come from Spyder. The audio switcher does nothing. The volume control on the Spyder does nothing. So again this is totally worthless.

Has anyone gotten this to work with a Cardo unit? Which channel did you put the Spyder on and which one for your phone? Nothing I do seems to provide a workable solution. There's absolutely no guidance in the owner's manual about how you should configure your headset with the bike to be compatible with ACP either. So frustrating to be so close, yet so far, from a usable ACP product.

Ok, don’t know if the following will help but I hope it does. Just traveled 788.1 miles from SA, TX to Corinth, MS with my 2024 Spyder RTL in one day. Left SA, TX at 5am, got to Corinth, MS at 7pm. Had to stop and hydrate a bunch. Before I left, I downloaded ACP. All good, Navi, music from IPhone 14 Max and selecting Pandora worked great. Traveled Interstate all the way except until I passed Memphis then traveled on US Hwy 72. Anyway, I also have a Sena HJC 20B Smart helmet headset. Paired 20B headset to Spyder as Primary “phone”. Paired IPhone 14 Max to Spyder. However, I was not getting voice directions nor Siri to my helmet headset (speakers). So after thinking about it on the Interstate stuck in a traffic jam, I decided to pair my 20B headset to my IPhone 14 as a “secondary phone” which you can select from helmet in the “configuration” menu. I can now ask Siri for stuff and hear directions to my destination(s). Yeaaaa!!!! I always plug in my phone to USB cord and turn on headset before I turn on the Spyder.

After going back to the Operators Guide and then checking the Audio settings under the Preferences on my Spyder I found that mine was set to Headset. The only thing that changed when I switched from Headset to Speakers was the sound from the radio station started playing through the speakers.

There is nothing in the Apple CarPlay section of the Operators Guide that suggests you can change the CarPlay sound output to go anywhere except the headset(s) that are Bluetooth paired to the Spyder. Yes, two headsets are supported, one for the driver and one for the passenger.

I also did some Googling, and visited the CarPlay websites hosted for Indian and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The Indian site was pretty vague, but the HD site was more helpful.

https://tulsaharley.com/news-article/53462/how-to-use-apple-carplay-without-a-headset

"But what if you want to enjoy CarPlay without the bulk of a headset? The solution lies in a clever workaround using a special adapter."

"What You'll Need:
A Harley-Davidson motorcycle with Skyline OS.
An Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone.
A Bluetooth Adapter for Car Aux Input - Receiver with Built-in Mic adapter (available on Amazon here).
A USB-C adapter for connectivity (also available on Amazon here)."

The Amazon link is this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081GGB53R?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

It's a short cable with a stereo plug on one end, and a squarish box on the other which I believe is the Bluetooth receiver.
There's a video on the Amazon page, which show you plugging the stereo plug into your vehicle's AUX input plug, and then setting up a bluetooth connection on your cell phone to the device.

Of course there is no AUX input plug on the Spyder, so that adapter won't work.

So I still don't see anyway to route the navigation sounds to the Spyder's speakers.
