• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am beginning to notice a trend in the posts...

When I started with Spyderlovers 11 months ago, I was amazed at the wealth of good information and helpful people posting to the forums. I have spend many, many hours reading on vendor products, mods, farkles, trailering, technical aspects of, and all the fun you can have with your Spyder!

However... I am seeing a gradual rise in the lack of respect for others opinions, snarky comments, abruptness, closed mindedness (if that is a word), and in many cases down right rudeness of more than a few folks posting to the forums. I have seen many comments and replies made that, truthfully, I wouldn't say to people I didn't like. Let along folks I had never met and would like to engage in sharing the fun of owning and riding Spyders. These negative and rude behaviors are not what draws me to the forums. And, the ridicule and rudeness is becoming more apparent.

Folks, this will scare away the newcomers, chase off the core members, and could totally take away the fun of learning about a fun motorsport and a great ride!

I am not asking the moderator(s) to get involved, but I am asking folks to be self-moderating. We need to keep it open, honest, helpful and positive if we wish to gain and keep new spyder riders!

This is just my opinion. Flame away if you want.

-Steve.

:joke::joke::joke::joke: :agree: with you about 137% :2thumbs:
It's an unfortunate by-product of the anonymity of the internet; people think that manners no longer need apply...

Like spam email, you need to wade thru the silliness to find the value. One solution is to click on the offending poster's profile and place them on the ignore list, it's amazing how quickly that solves that issue.

You've been here less than a year.

I think it was much more viscious back in the earlier days.

some posters from those days are no longer here.... Lamont does a good job of weeding them out.

Trends do come and go. People come and go.

When I spot something I don't like, or don't agree with--I may say something--or not.

If someone is way out of line, admin sometimes gets involved. Most of the time, the majority takes care of business by ignoring or discussing the situation with the offending person(s).

The site is kind of self-policing over a lot of issues.

Sad to say, this is the only site where I have selected to ignore some peoples posts from opening unless I specifically open them.

A while back, several folks here had the mindset to tell others, "if you don't like it, then use the Ignore button". So I did.

Overall, I enjoy reading about cool stuff or rides, trying to help others when I can, and also finding good values on used items.

As for those on my Ignore list, just seeing what others here post as remarks to their topics or posts assures me they will soon be banned for the duration. Honestly, no loss to me and they will need to find a new place to preach their craft of BS.

For all I know, most of the folks here have me on ignore also...

This is an appropriate thread to apologize in advance if I have posted any offensive or disrespectful posts. I have noticed some people giving their opinion which sometimes comes across rude, but as you said I don't know these people and take it with a grain of salt.

I too feel that this website has a lot to offer and some members are just so nice and have a lot of great things to share... I always try to give my opinion and help when I can. The difference in opinion is what makes things interesting. I just ignore the posts that are negative or may be meant to "bully" others.

I have seen a little of this and yes we need to self moderate and try not to offend others. Heh...we are in the same Spyder party !

Anonimity yes can be part of it and we are all different. It is also (and I have seen this more on facebook) difficult on a computer to express all of your opinion or feelings without writing a book. You dont get tone, inflection, facial expressions, etc that can add meaning to what is being typed.

The one reply I wish people would not use is "read the manual" ...that does come across as rude. I have git it a couple times and I HAVE read the manual atleast 3 times.....and some specific questions are NOT answered in there.

Nuff said....lets enjoy this site as it is VERY informative and helpful. And thank you to all those that have helped me with my questions and comments.

i find lots of helpful information on here. i also found some people with the same sense of humor that i have, so i like to kid around and get some laughs in at the same time. life is too short to go around so serious. if i see a post that i don't like or understand i just move along and mind my own business, and feel that some people on this forum should also practice this.

Note: Steve's post was edited by me for effectiveness. (hopefully)

My response: It already has.

Well put..!!

And sadly true. But as mentioned if one does not get sucked in or play into it they tend to go away. Still overall this is a great site and hopefully this trend will self correct itself (we may have to help)...

To me 2007-2009 were the earlier days (years) and Lamont didn't cut anyone loose, that I'm aware of. But, lot of those members are gone, and it's not just because they no longer have a spyder.

sduskin,

You are correct.

I try not to have a heavy hand on any of the forums I've ran but there have been times I have had to step in. If you report a post to me I will decide if I need to deal with it. I can't read every post so I count on you guys to point out the bad ones at times.

As far as core members leaving they sometimes leave for reasons unexpected. I won't go into details but I will say it's not always why you may think. Please be repectful to new and old members here.

:agree: There's often more going on, than we as a group are aware of...
I have been guilty f using the "Did you read your manual?" answer on more than a few occasions... Heck; I've been guilty of just about everything possible in here! :opps:
But we honestly DO try to answer questions, and offer encouragement to everyone that pops in!

Hope you don't take this as a flame. The PC boat is already full. What is positive about SL is being able to post ideas, suggestions, criticism, etc., in a way that helps people. Sometimes for some of us who have been on here since it's inception, we have heard it all and our posts may show it. We try to help when we can and then get slammed for trying cause "someone" got offended. My suggestion, if anyone doesn't want to hear the answer to a question or problem posted, don't post the question or problem.
"
I was thinking about this several days ago, so here goes a short thought concerning what seems to be taking up way too much time from people with nothing else to do but point out and complain about what offends "them". If something "offends" you it is YOUR fault...100%. An object or a person has no means to Make you offended, you make that decision all by yourself. I have been called many things in my short 71 years on planet earth. Never once did any of that stuff "offend" me cause I didn't let it ("offend" as defined in today's liberal thinking) . Sure my feelings have been hurt but after I consider the source I can chuckle and move on. I don't consider that "offended". If I can do it you can also. You keep looking to get offended your life will never blossom." (Posted on FB by Dudley)

like i said some people need to stop being so serious so others can have some fun other than spyder talk. that is why there is a off topic section. heck i have see worse things said and done and it just goes by the wayside but somehow other people get targeted and receive lil notes saying their days are numbered and they have to bite their tongues to remain on here and to keep the friendship and information they get and value.

Dudley,
Sometimes folks that are a bit "new" in here, will post a question just to start a conversation... They might not know how to "get the ball rolling"; so to speak...
I've been guilty of the whole "Try using the SEARCH button; fool!" approach. I genuinely regret ever having done that.
Those of you who have some SERIOUS time in here have already seen every question that can be asked... "twelveteen" times!! :D
But it might be the first time, that someone else has seen it... :dontknow:
A little bit of patience and forbearance can make everyone's day a whole lot better!

Also my philosophy 99% of the time. I try to treat every question with respect. In my accounting classes, I always tell the students--there is no such thing as a dumb question--and don't be afraid to ask--a lot of the time, others are wondering the same thing.

What about the poor "one-percenters", that are left?? :D
