• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am beginning to notice a trend in the posts...

What about the poor "one-percenters", that are left?? :D

Just trying to say that even I am not perfect 100% of the time. But I am close... :roflblack::roflblack:

I remember when you told me that you weren't perfect...

You were worried that you might have once made a mistake...
It turned out that you hadn't!!! :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

:agree: There's often more going on, than we as a group are aware of...
I have been guilty f using the "Did you read your manual?" answer on more than a few occasions... Heck; I've been guilty of just about everything possible in here! :opps:
But we honestly DO try to answer questions, and offer encouragement to everyone that pops in!

Bob, with over 56,000 posts I am sure you offended someone, but hey... please don't stop posting. This is a great forum. I have run into the same type of people on the jeep forums and do my best to ignore them. And a big THANKS to Lemont for setting this site up.

When I started with Spyderlovers 11 months ago, I was amazed at the wealth of good information and helpful people posting to the forums. I have spend many, many hours reading on vendor products, mods, farkles, trailering, technical aspects of, and all the fun you can have with your Spyder!

However... I am seeing a gradual rise in the lack of respect for others opinions, snarky comments, abruptness, closed mindedness (if that is a word), and in many cases down right rudeness of more than a few folks posting to the forums. I have seen many comments and replies made that, truthfully, I wouldn't say to people I didn't like. Let along folks I had never met and would like to engage in sharing the fun of owning and riding Spyders. These negative and rude behaviors are not what draws me to the forums. And, the ridicule and rudeness is becoming more apparent.

Folks, this will scare away the newcomers, chase off the core members, and could totally take away the fun of learning about a fun motorsport and a great ride!

I am not asking the moderator(s) to get involved, but I am asking folks to be self-moderating. We need to keep it open, honest, helpful and positive if we wish to gain and keep new spyder riders!

This is just my opinion. Flame away if you want.

-Steve.
I posted a very similar thread about a half a year ago, that went down hill very quick! Hopefully this one stays on track. Let's all just enjoy the knowledge of the people and most of all enjoy the ride! That is all I will say!

It's a bloody forum on the internet. Folks can post on here from all over the world, with differing cultures and different ways of saying stuff. I'd say that if one is offended by anything that is posted on this forum, they should grow a thicker skin!

Sorry, but I really don't see this as the problem that some members do...

Hmm. While I may not have stated it in exactly the same way, I think the above post bares a lot of relevance for the topic at hand here. "Differing cultures" does not necessarily mean "folks from different parts of the world". Everyone on this forum has a somewhat different personality from everyone else - some of these are strikingly different (which in many ways makes the forum more interesting). We tend to mistakenly think that everyone else in the "community" that we relate to has the same sense of values that we do. Therefore it is all too easy for some to be offended by a comment that was never intended to be offensive. Therefore words like "rude", and even "respect" become relative concepts. Also one must keep in mind that even the SAME forum member my come across differently on different days, depending on what happens to be going on in their lives at any particular point in time. We all have "good days" and "bad days". (I know I do. :sour: )

When seen in this light, I truly believe that a lot of comments that have offended folks in the past, really have very little negative effect on most forum members. Also, taken in this light, the only really offensive posts would be those that contain personal attack on one's race, religion, character, etc. (You are an idiot... etc.) And to tell the truth, while it's possible I may have missed a few, I don't think I've ever seen any of those kinds of posts in this forum.

So I agree with kep-up, that to take personal offense at anything other than personal attacks (or porn and other stuff explicitly forbidden in the forum rules) on any internet forum post is more or less futile. Taking offence at disagreements - no matter how they are stated - seems pointless, IMHO. Better to just ignore what you don't like and enjoy or learn from everything else.

Sorry to be so verbose. I should realize that my verbosity will offend some. :opps:

PS... Also, IMO Cuznjohn is right - nothing wrong with joking around and having a little fun at times.

  • 10 minute rule - wait ten minutes between writing something and posting it. Just gives you a chance to cool down after getting it out of your system and you'll probably think - actually I can't be bothered.
  • International Forum - Yes it is though it's predominately US and the opinions on this site tend to reflect that. I've found that posters from other countries (like me) will often make a point of mentioning it regularly to try and avoid 'cultural' issues.
  • General Discussion Forum - tends to be the most 'at risk' area for troublesome posts. I tend to head for the GS/RS area first (where there is a friendly bunch:-)). I then very selective on the posts I read in the General Discussion forum. There is a high turnover of threads in this area so even if one does annoy you it soon disappears if no one replies...
  • There are some hot buttons that will always set certain people off into lecture mode which then antagonises other people. This can be annoying if you are interested in the original subject and see the thread high jacked but again sometimes it's best to just step out.
  • I've only spotted one real troll in action on this site a few months back - they were particularly good at starting fights between other members and making threads go bad. When I got suspicious I had another look at their posts it became clear they didn't have a Spyder though they were pretending they did. Fortunately they disappeared again but they did quite a bit of damage in that short time.

Who sings that song?

Piston blown,
For your you tube video, who sings that song? Artist and title, if you please... Need to add it to the iTunes lol

By the way, great commentary.

Band: The Cure
Song: The Forest

This particular version is from the "Bestival 2011" album. I say particular version as its morphed over time particularly when played live. I have managed to see them play live a couple of times, both times at Glastonbury.

Here's one of my favourite versions (which at almost 14 minutes is probably one of the longest:-)):

I agree hope this sums it up.

You're observations are correct. This board like all the other major boards do suffer from growing pains. The small boards normally are quite docile and polite. Information is freely exchanged and accepted. The membership is usually comprised of those eager to supply meaningful and technical help. However as the board grows a core group mentality takes charge. The original experts are drummed out and what is left is a sort of cult driven by advertisers and those in it for profit. And the moderators and site owners are also driven by the cash cow of advertisers. Any meaningful information that contradicts the advertisers is dealt with harshly again another expert is quickly banished from the site under the weak excuse of "trolling"
These large sites are not run for your benefit but in fact run for and by those who put profits above helpfulness. If you desire real information and honest humanity - go to the smaller boards which are not run by the advertisers and for profiteers.

BTW this is my first post and for sure the last as this will be deleted almost immediately by the moderators - free speech does not apply here

Before and if your post is deleted, let me be one to say you are totally off base about SpyderLovers.

Certainly Lamont (the board owner) is in this to make a profit but I do not believe he puts that above all else. He has demonstrated over the past eight years that the boards he runs (more than just this one) are here to provide (in your words) real information and honest humanity!

For a first poster on this site, you make a lot of poor assumptions.

:welcome: Free Speech is not guaranteed; this is Lamont's site, and Lamont's rules...
Most of us have no problem living within his guidelines. nojoke

For a first post you're managing to come across as a stupid troll. And that I believe is your intention.
No Spyder owner in their right mind would try to stir up trouble by making arguments founded on this sort of drivel. Yes! Lamont makes a living out of various aspects of the Spyder
but if you look at the sponsors on this site, none are corporate. Mainly Mom & Pop outfits providing excellent service to our community.
You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Take some advice: Go swivel....
