The current temp in Vermont is 73 degrees and mostly sunny.
No rain yet!
The begins again with plenty of sunshine, & blue skies before a few clouds enter the picture as some of the leading edge of Debby's tropical moisture begins to arrive. Daytime highs for the day climb back into the mid and upper 70's and lower 80's. Later this evening and tonight, there is the chance to a few showers as a result of that moisture, but the heaviest of the rain will hold off until Friday.
We are expecting a band of 2-4" or more of rain to impact part of the area, but the area of greatest concern has shifted west. A more westerly track would bode well for already waterlogged areas of the Northeast Kingdom( near the Canadian Border), New Hampshire, and southern and eastern Vermont but elevate flood concerns in northern New York.
Current trends bring the heaviest rain to the Adirondacks and ST. Lawrence Valley on Friday and Friday night. Areas outside the heavy band can expect a widespread 1-3" of rain. The risk of flash flooding and river flooding will be highest in areas that see 2-4"+ totals. Vermont is not out of the woods yet, as the forecast track could still wobble back east. I will continue to monitor the forecast for updates.
The good news is that Debby looks like she will make a speedy departure, leaving us a bit drier than originally expected for the upcoming weekend. Some lighter showers may linger into Sunday and Monday, but the concern for heavy rain will be over before even midday Saturday, and they suspect they will see at least some sunshine for both weekend days.
They have issued a Flood watch in the following counties of New York, Clinton, New York, Essex, New York, Franklin, New York, + 8 other counties in Vermont. From Friday Afternoon through Saturday morning. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches with locally higher possible will cause streams, and possibly rivers to rise sharply, and flooding may occur.
Everyone stay safe! Keep the 3 wheels down!
