Wiring damage advice needed

I agree

Don,t let them repair the wires.Replace the wiring with new complet harness. This is a new bike.I work at an auto dealer and last spring we had squirrels chewing off the abs wiring on several trucks. We replaced all wiring that was damaged no repairing.Where in Ont you from.?
Bill
Hey Bill.
I'm from Oakville. I'm going to remove some of the panels today and if I find ANY harness damage it will be photographed and brought to their attention. No, I will not accept a patch with tape to hide problem. So far the dealer has been very quick to respond to this problem which is good. I should have more information later this week.

Damaged wires

Seems to me that a lot of people are getting in an uproar about unknown damage! As posted, the dealer has already agreed to replace all damaged wiring. The Spyder runs apparently - so let the dealer repair it to the owner's satisfaction and be done.
Why all the demands for stuff that has no connection to the problem.
No wonder some dealers are hard to get along with.
My 2 cents worth!

Pick up today

Good morning everybody. Sorry but I did not want to start a poop storm for making this post. normally I would not look so carefully but this is my first bike and I paid a lot for it as did everyone else. because I was looking so carefully yesterday for more wiring damage I was unable to find anymore without removing a lot of panels. I will leave that to the dealer. Unfortunately, I did find other damage that makes me want to get very upset. It looks like the bike either bottomed out when being tested or bottomed out when backing down a ramp. Several damaged panels underneath and scuff marks on nose of trunk. attached are two pictures. When bike was delivered it was torrential downpour and it has been sitting in a dark garage for one week not taken out for a ride even because insurance did not kick in until today.

"Insurance did not kick in until today?"<<------I don't get this. Every time I've ever bought ANY vehicle all I had to do was make a phone call and I was insured instantly. Also, I don't know if a dealer is allowed to let a vehicle leave without proper registration paperwork, which includes insurance......????
IMHO-Either this whole story is getting fishy, or the dealer is sketchy....

Forget about the difference in insurance laws among the States; this O.P. is in another Country!

It might just be how they roll! :dontknow:

Nothing fishy on my end. I was waiting to take 2 day riders training course for Spiders and was getting insurance activated the day bike arrived. The dealer delivered 1 week early.

I'm a new owner of a 2014 Can Am RT. Was delivered last week by dealer in a totally enclosed trailer to my house. Brand new from the crate it was assembled and put in their unheated storage area until it was tested and delivered. Right after delivery I started to get ready to install JT's bracket and dual usb kit. On removal of plastic around centre main display I found wires had been chewed by mice to expose bare wires at the spare instrument plug end. I immediately notified dealer who said they had this problem 3 years ago and would replace any damaged parts.
Luckily I haven't ridden yet. What should I ask for when they take back bike for repair? Installation of usb, pictures of repairs, 1 year of warranty? In 35 years of owning vehicles I've never had a problem like this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what you should ask for other than a new spyder. Its not acceptable to me buying a brand new trike with mice damage.

My 2010 Spyder Rt had mice damage from sitting outside in the summer covered up while I had surgery . I did not ride it for 8 weeks while recovering. Lucky for me no wires were chewed through but still had wires exposed and insulating foam chewed. The damage was found when I brought my spyder in for an oil change. The dealer got heavy cloth electrical tape and taped where the insulation was chewed whether bare wires were exposed or not. I have had no problems since. dealer needs to check air box and exhaust pipe for nests and clean nests out so no fire can start.
Now what I did and continue to do now with my new spyder. When i put the cover on I put a small container of mothballs under the cover in the front vent and also installed an electronic mouse blocker for cars and motorcycles. and no problems since. Didn't notice the different country thing.....However, that's a huge risk taking delivery of something like that uninsured. Again, JMHO....
I think with everything going on I would be discussing a replacement unit with my dealer....

In the USA selling a used/demo machine as new is a big problem for the dealer. I'm thinking that your country has laws as well. Tell the dealer that you want a new bike or you call the lawyers. Fixing that front end damage is "replacement" but my thought would be what else is wrong. Best case this was a demo and abused, or used and he is trying to screw you. Him sending the trailer to pick it up, seems his way of trying to cover it up.

Bike was brand new in the box. 0 miles or kilometres in Canada. Dealer is already ordering all scratched / damaged Tupperware based on pictures I sent and offered to throw in some addons while being repaired. An extra years warranty as well to compensate for troubles. Pretty fair IMHO. No yelling, screaming, threatening, just very easy to do business with.

BAH! A typical Canadian ... LOL

(For the benefit of the non-Canadians ... a typical Canadian dealer would think his reputation is far more important to protect than a bit of profit. Mind you they typically do not discount as much as our American friends so they should be able to afford it too!!!)

at least it's good to hear that your dealer is going to take care of the problem for you...

..Without all of the normal histrionics! :gaah::cus::banghead: :roflblack:

For comparison - With New Zealand dealers you pay well above the US list price and the service tends to be very friendly and helpful but sometimes somewhat incompetent.

You could perhaps see with the response of some of our US cousins in this thread why the US dealers may be a bit defensive when it comes to accepting responsibility for things:-) (I'm probably going to regret that remark:-))

A friend of mine who has several Harley's will travel to the states and get service, repairs and addons done and be given a loaner to use while he waits. NY state. Can't believe the difference how he is treated, maybe 3rd degree blackbelt helps too.

I would ask for a new Spyder the same year(or newer), model, color, and warranty. Make sure you get a list of all the parts that they replaced and do not except any repaired wiring. That's IMHO.

WOW :yikes: That is a lot more than a "little" Tupperware damage. It looks like a well used bike. How many miles were on it when you picked it up? Looks like someone drove it on dirt/gravel roads. Good luck.
