Will a ‘16 SE5 clutch pack work in a ‘12 SE5 engine?

I looked at the BRP parts schematics and almost all parts are the same parts number. There are a couple parts with different numbers. I picked up a ‘16 clutch pack that is in pristine condition and want to install it in my ‘12 RTS. Can anyone tell if it will work?

In 2014 the 1330 engine appeared, I think the Clutch is different than that on the V-twin - which is what you have. ..... go to any OEM parts suppliers and enter the part number from the 16 clutch pack .... it will tell you what other Spyders it will fit .....good luck ... Mike

They did still have a 998 SE5 engine too in 16. Might have been the last year. I think the 1330 came out for the touring models in ‘14? I’m still learning about these bikes.

The 1330's first came out in the RT's in 2014, after not being ready in time to go into the 2013's; but you're right, the RS/S's & ST's continued with the V-twin motor until the F3 was ready for release in 2015, then there was a little overlap while BRP used up all the remaining engines etc & sold all the remaining stock of the earlier models before the 1330 became the only engine available in about 2016/17.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure that if that clutch came out of a Spyder V-twin, it'll go into pretty much any Spyder V-twin, altho IIRC there was a bit of a clutch upgrade in about mid 2013... heavier clutch plates I think, just to be sure that the customary 'Clunk' that happens whenever you first select First or Reverse gear after starting/from Neutral - it's all to do with the constant mesh gears & the way the teeth are cut.

But as far as you're concerned, I'm reasonably sure that it'll work for you, just so long as you get all the old clutch plates & wave springs etc out before trying to pack the new lot in! :opps: But we don't really need to go any further into that particular error, do we! :p

As you already know, the whole plate kit is the same part number. It looks like the most significant difference is the disc spring, and maybe a couple of O-rings. And that may not be an actual difference that matters. At first glance, it should be a workable solution.

And BTW folks - in 2016, the RS and ST models were still 998 SE5.

As long as it is an SE5 kit, it will work. You will probably need to purchase the 'Shim Kit' to get it to correct specs. I can get that part # for you if needed.

Hi BajaRon,
Does the shim go behind the clutch pack? I probably do need it if it’s required for the swap. Is it available on your site? Or can I just go through you?

Thank you
Rick

The shim goes at the outside or outboard end of the clutch pack. You might get lucky with the original shim that came with your Spyder. But chances are not good. I can check on your price tomorrow when I get to the shop and let you know.

That’s great, thank you.
