• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Maybe we should do a new poll on this? I would like to know if it has changed in almost a year. there are a bunch of new people on here.

The local Harley dealer techs around here have been telling the guy's to run it in the HD bikes engine and trans...I sell several cases of 20-50 motorcycle oil a week to the harley riders.

Per Harley!? :yikes:

Probably should....

I like Amzoil 10-40 motorcycle oil. They bring it to my house for a good price. All the top oil companies say they make the best oil, so I don't worry because a quality oil will last more than 6,000 miles. If you look at BRP oil, it does not have any specs. on the bottle. So what am I buying? That's IMHO.

ARG! :gaah: I see I entered 'Royal Blue' as an oil brand. No such thing! It should have been Royal Purple! Don't know what happened there but as far as I can tell, I can't change it. Makes sense because if you could edit a poll like this you could really mess with the outcome.

Sorry you Royal Purple guys. Didn't do it on purpose. Besides, purple is in the blue spectrum. So I didn't miss by all that much... right? :dontknow:

Dealer did my 600 and I did the 3000 before Rolling Thunder it was going to hit the mark between here and D C. Anyway I do find it somewhat bothersome that the BRP jugs don't show a rating for the oil, but the book as I recall (it's at home) does specify either semi or full synthetic rate JA2. I'm planning to switch to Amsoil with the next service and will likely switch the wife's Ural over to it also.

Ride safe,

Ride safe,

Here is what the manual says for my 2011 RT-S

Recommended Engine Oil
The same oil is used for the engine,
gearbox, clutch, and the Hydraulic Control
Module (HCM) in the SE5model.
Use the XPS SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL
(SUMMER GRADE) (P/N 293 600 121)
or a 5W 40 semi-synthetic (minimum)
or synthetic motorcycle oil meeting
the requirements for API service SL,
SJ, SH or SG classification. Always
check the API service label on the oil
container.

NOTICE To avoid damaging the
clutch, do not use a motor oil meeting
the API service SM or ILSACGF-4
classification. Clutch slippage will
occur.

The reason manufacturer's don't put specs on their bottles is because they are using off the shelf products from a major oil supplier. If they switch suppliers a spec or two may change and then they'd have to change containers. This way they can put whatever they choose in the bottle and never have to worry if the specs inside meet the specs on the container.

Honestly, the difference between 5w and 10w is negligible and isn't going to help or hurt you engine one way or the other.

If you're parking your Spyder outside in sub-zero temps (like a snowmobile) then yes, you probably want to be sure you're running a 5w oil. At normal storage temperatures, 10w is more than good enough.

Worrk in Wal-Mart auto dept. and have never seen "Wal-Mart" MC oil. I purchase 10-40 Valvoline 4T Full Synthetic Motorcyle oil at Wal-Mart for the Spyder. Just after we got the Spyder and I joined the forum I saw a thread on oil the linked to an Amsoil test of MC oil. Valvoline 4T was rated in the top five not far below Amsoil and Motul.

Except for my last oil change, I've sent a sample of every change to a Wix approved lab for testing, starting with the 600 mile svc when I started with Amsoil. Out of curiosity, I refilled once with Valvoline MC oil and it tested very close, but not quite as good as Amsoil in terms of viscosity. It sheared just a bit more but not enough to get excited about. I'd use it in a heartbeat if Amsoil was not readily avail.

What is your oil change interval?

Castrol full synth 10/40. Though I have no particular brand loyalty..................I'd use pretty much any 10/40 full synth motorcycle oil, if it's reasonably priced.
