Follow-up
Well, we had a nice time at Vintage Motorcycle Days, once again. Nancy would not let us take the Aspen Sentry camper and ride two Spyders down. I will never hear the end of that one. Thursday evening it stormed like mad. We were safe and dry in our enclosed trailer, but the tent camper would have been a challenge. Some rowdy neighbors would have made it more so. It is quite quiet in the enclosed trailer.
I saw only a couple of Spyders there, and only one RT, although a few more RS Spyders were reported. Working the bike shows for two days straight limits what I see, so I am not surprised I missed a few. Sunday a nice young couple came by. She had a yellow Spyder like Nancy's. She said Nancy let her sit on the Spyder last year at VMD, and she had to have one. Bought it soon after. I told them about SpyderLovers. They would be a great addition to the group.
The Spyder demo crew was very busy all weekend. They had a lot more Spyders than previously, but were still booked solid before noon each day. Just visiting there a few times during the weekend, it appeared they were the busiest demo group. The Spyder continues to intrigue and attract new ryders.
Even when it gets muddy on the campground roads, the Spyder is a real blessing at VMD. The majority of campground paths are large cobbles, about baseball sized. Very tricky on a road bike! Not having to continually put your feet down at the stops, when traffic gets slow, is nice, too. I have enjoyed using the Spyder to get around...and it continues to draw a crowd and questions. I wish we could fit both Spyders into our trailer...or Nancy would let us ride down instead. I will admit that I would not have wanted to ride back late in the evening, after being so tired, but a Spyder would have been far safer under those conditions than a motorcycle.
My 1972 BMW R75/5 fouled a plug and left me on foot Saturday. Just shows that anything can and will fail at the most inopportune time. Sunday it crapped out completely just as I pulled back into the campground. I suspect some major difficulties, but will have little time to inspect it, with the Portland, Indiana, motorbike get-together this week, and the Wauseon, Ohio, antique motorcycle meet this weekend.
...and a good time was had by all!
