• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Turn Signal Light Indicator Brightness

Here in TX they can be amber if they are TS only. If they are on and rear facing at any other time they need to be red.

Seems easy to tap the existing wiring/ signals and get better visibility.

Nice signals

Schultzi. Picked up a pair of these fron Autozone. how did you access the inside of mirror? is there an exploded view schematic? Thanks.:doorag:
Thats what i installed, wired to the org. wires in the mirror housing
Works great and is noticable even in bright sunlight
$9.00 Autozone

The mirror "hangs" on the top pin and the bottom two connections are "push in" type connectors. Sooo the pop off and the wiring is there for the turn signals.

Reggy at TricLED is in the process of offering a small string of amber LED's that stick to the mirror and act as rear facing turn signals. I saw this in person at SpyderFest 2012. It looks awesome. Since I have my fender and mud flap lights tied into my turn signals, I can clearly see when they are on or off. You'll have to pop off the mirrors to get to the signal hot wires. That's easy enough to do if it's not winter.

Let's revisit this issue one more time... :bdh:
Okay; I've got the lights.
Can you drill a hole into the mirror housing and then fish the extra wires out to where you can hook them up to the OEM wires that plug into the mirror's wiring?
If you can; Where do you drill it?? :dontknow:

Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I have 8" amber strips mounted to the bottom edge of my mirrors. I drilled a small hole through the case at the end of the strip and fished the wires through the mirror body and tied into the turn signal wires. Not only do I have a good indicator of the turn signal status but they can be seen by people beside me.

A cheap and easy to complete mod, IMHO :ohyea:

Thanks Larry!
I see where you drilled the hole in the housing on the miiror side; does that drop the wires down into the "guts" of the housing where they can be pulled out and hooked into the turnsignal wiring? Do you need to split the housing apart for this?

If I remember correctly, the wire needed routed thru two pieces of plastic, drill two holes. That is why I decided to dismantle the lights completely so I could make it a clean install with all the connections (positaps) cleanly hidden. This allows the mirrors to be removed as original with the OEM plug.

Thanks Bill!
Do you have a picture of just where you drilled that hole?

It is right at the inside edge of the strip ...

Use a small, stiff wire to fish the leads out of the mirror body. You can use a 9 Vdc battery to check the polarity of the strip. I used Pos-i-taps to connect into the mirror harness, then stuck them into the holes on the bike.

Thanks Captain!
I'm planning on mounting a strip of either 6 or 3 red LEDs; (depending on how well the longer strip fits), on the inside vertical edge of the housing. I figure to put them there so that when activated;
they'll also let folks in the adjacent lane know what my plans are.
They won't be so noticeable from the saddle
the lights wtill will have enough brightness to make their visibilty in all lighting conditions assured.

It's been done and has been posted in here... If you're patient; perhaps you can find those instructions in amongst all of these turnsignal light threads.
(I took a quick peek, but was unsuccessful! :opps:)

LED Turn Signals

Here is what I did. Got the LED's from WalMart and tapped right in to the front side turn signal indicator lights. $20 and you are all set. Tapped in with PosiTaps. I included a few snaps as I was doing it.
