There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Trailer Mode

Phil

Mod Monster
Ok experts....
This will be the first time I've pulled a trailer more than 10 miles. When I was getting used to it, I drove around town. I put Darth in trailer mode from the console for the trial. BUT.... it didn't want to stay in Trailer Mode. It kept reverting back to no trailer. I haven't worried about it till now.

It seems that about all that actually changes are the allowable shift points (or whatever it's called). So....

QUESTIONS
1. Is it normal for the RT SE5 to not stay in trailer mode? (it comes out when you turn the bike off)
2. Any clues for me on how to lock it in trailer mode until we get back?
3. What harm, pray tell, will come to Darth if trailer mode won't stick?

Thanks gurus...... Loading up, leaving Tuesday

Like you said, trailer mode just changes the shift points. Keep your rpm's above 3500 and you won't need to use trailer mode.
On the 2010 it will not stay in trailer mode.

I don't like trailer mode and normally don't use it. Like you said, I just keep the rpm's above 3500 I don't have any problems.

I was told when I bought my 2010 RTS and trailer that the trailer mode not only adjusts the shift points but it also biases the yaw sensor limits (controlling nanny engagement) as well as brake balance / bias given the added load. If all that's true, it might be a good thing to figure out how to get it to stay in trailer mode when you're pulling it.

That's what I was told... seemed to make sense to me, but I dunno!:dontknow:

Both my wife and I are on our second RT's and we both pull the 622 trailers. Neither of us have used trailer mode since our first trip in 2010. We have never experienced any problems with balance, braking or load (although we don't pack real heavy) in over 33,000 miles of combined Spyder riding.

It is just my opinion, but if that were true, the SMs would also have trailer mode. I don't think so.

It was never explained that well to me. As a matter of fact I thought the salesmen told me that when you plugged in the trailer harness the Spyder sensed it and automatically switched to trailer mode. Of course he had also told me (when we took our demo ride) that the SE5 upshifted automatically as well as downshifted. NOT! 😁

This is what we experienced while towing

While putting the SE5 RT into trailer mode, you will notice that you can NOT upshift til around 5,000 RPM, unlike when NOT in trailer mode, you can usually upshift around 3,200 or so. Your sales person was misinforming you, when he said the RT's computer would automatically go into trailer mode when the wiring harness is connected:lecturef_smilie: IMO, this SHOULD be the way it works, but NOT SO. When the wiring is connected, that connects the lights, but doesn't change the RT into Trailer Mode, you have to do that manually yourself. As stated, on the 2010 RTs, everytime you shut the Spyder off, you will have to turn the Trailer Mode back on at each power up:sour: They changed that for the 2011+ models, where it will stay in trailer mode til trailer mode is turned off. Another change when using Trailer Mode, the SE5 will auto-downshift sooner while in trailer mode compared to it NOT being in Trailer Mode. As others have stated, NOT using Trailer Mode, shouldn't be an issues as long as you are keeping your RPMs up and NOT lugging the engine:lecturef_smilie: but thats your choice. It was designed for a reason and purpose, so when Teddy &I are pulling our camper, we usually DO make use of this feature :ohyea::thumbup: Good luck on your trip and :yes:HAVE FUN
