• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

THIS JUST PUBLISHED BY NHTSA

Sometimes these threads do go South, and then we get people nipping at each others heels and making statements that we may regret a bit later.

There have been many negative threads of late. Been on the site going on five years now and lately has been a bit hard for even me.

I have no problem with people posting about issues or glitches with our beloved machine. I have experienced a few things also. My history is now over five different :spyder2:'s and 100,000 miles. I guess you could say I like the product and am a supporter of it.

My problem currently is that there are a few (and most of us know who they are) that are ticked off big time at BRP or their particular machine, or the particular year model.

We see their rants almost daily. They interject their issue and problem in almost every thread they can, and sometimes in threads that are not even close.

Some have tried to get the problems solved. Some have not met with good results. We even have some who sold their :ani29: and they continue to rant. Then there are some who's expectations are not even realistic. It is easy to see who is on a vendetta.

A lot of the negativity on the site comes from a few people and not the majority.

Not saying you shouldn't and that's why I said some people do have problems....fix it! The proper info is out there.... Either wait like all the others and hope for an eventual brp approved solution...good luck, or fix it yourself and actually enjoy your machine. There are ways to make the machine run cooler...It's pretty well documented. It doesn't involve band aids like wrapping your bike with aluminum foil and making wings to divert air over a water cooled motor or installing open air intakes to suck all that hot air into the motor. Ways to truly make the motor run cooler and create less heat. ;) Imagine that, make the motor run cooler and it's less hot! :gaah::banghead:
However, many don't want to listen, or want brp to pay for it......."I spent 30K+" blah blah blah...whatever, nobody truly cares....".... It's a shame because those people who have never had a problem, and those people who have taken it upon themselves to fix it effectively, sit back and watch the rest spend time fighting with each other beating their heads against the walls waiting for brp miracles...:banghead::banghead:

Here we go, Old cranky people, load up and attack, you should all be warmed up by now!!! Fire suit on!....:roflblack::roflblack:
:gaah:I can't believe that I've got to say this... :agree: :banghead:
It's pretty easy to sit back and complain about it; but it's not nearly as satisfying, as it is to actually accomplish the fix under your own power.
Lots of folks in here have done it, and they've been good enough to share it...

with all due respect i would think that all spyder riders have to agree with this you spend &26000 -$30000 on a bike that has heat and fuel vapor problems is it really up to you to spend any more $$$$ to try and fix their problem i don't think it is and not to say if you do any of them things to your spyder wrap pipe, remove cat, remove air box BRP can turn around and say that may be the problem and not to say void your warranty members here that have spent a lot of $$$$$ to try to fix their with no luck and i believe this is up to BRP to fix it i don't want my bike to catch on fire it scares me real bad

this is i 8 years ago after a explosion not fun all most lost my live don't ever want to find myself in this predicament again i would not wish this pain on any one took me 5 years to get back to riding and it was on a spyder

Also, mastertek. With your injury history you should be the first person to throw the cost argument out the window and be all over just fixing the machine, even at some additional consumer cost...
True safety has no budget.....
What are people's lives worth to them??....

no Drew it was a work related injury this is not a joke BRP has to understand this they should be gratefully no one has been hurt money is not the ?? if they don't have a proper fix i will up grade to 2015 but some people don't have the funds to do it

 No doubt; you've had some tough-going...
Glad to hear that it hasn't stopped you.

That having been said; if you spend that much money on a bike, and feel that it can't be safely ridden; you really only have two choices (Maybe three):
Get rid of it
Fix it
Sit by, and HOPE that somebody else will do something to make it better...

I have been lucky; my bikes have been fine. If they weren't :yikes:, I'd find some way to make them rideable
(Too cheap to let my toys gather dust...).

Decisions, decisions! I bought a 2013 RTL in Feb of 2013, before the heat problems started to appear. Although I had good luck with mine, my bike was plastered with the stigma! I could do one of 2 things, spend thousands of $$$ in mods or spend thousands of $$$ toward a trade for a 2014. Because BRP significantly upgraded the RT in 2014 with the new engine and trx, I decided to put my $$$ toward a 2014. I do enjoy riding the Spyder, but I DO feel irritation toward BRP and their R&D dept for 2013 screw-up. It cost a lot of folks a LOT of $$$, no matter which route they chose. I hope 2013 buyers get some consideration from BRP because buyers bought in good faith!

I've been trying to figure out how this got past their test riders...
No doubt; they always are testing at speed; checking suspension spring and damping rates, steering reaction times, maximum lateral G forces, etc...

Do you think that they ever just put some folks on them, and said to go play in stop and go traffic on a hot day? :dontknow:

I think that if they knew about it; they would have done something a whole lot quicker! Look at all of the negative publicity that this has caused them. :yikes:

:agree: Maybe they only tested them in cooler climates, not in places like Texas or the Mojave desert in the summer. Although, given that the U.S. is a huge market, one would think that they would have been tested in all types of climates that they would be ridden in. Well, NHTSA is testing them now, and doing just that. Time will tell.

Fred Rau was all over the place on them... I think that he even shot some video from Death Valley.
It's the stop and go driving in the heat, that might have been missed. :dontknow:

Please understand; I'm not looking for an excuse for what happened... just a reasonable explanation...

Come on Bob. You've been around here long enough to see how the Kool aid flows.
I remember everyone talking about how great the new frame was, reconfigured front shock configuration, Brembo brakes and larger wheels. This time of the year back at the end of 2012 people were believing the 2013's were sprinkled with ferry dust they were so great!.....
It happens every year....

There was a whole lot of stuff going on about the 2013 between Dec 2012 and Feb 2013. You are right on the money there.

I am thinking that some serious lessons were learned after that.

I just happen to like the basic idea of what they've done.
Mind you; not everything about it... but the basic idea.
Their frame is very weak, and can't take a shot...
I do think that they needed more airflow through the bodywork...
The radio isn't exactly a stellar attempt...
Their suppliers have left them holding the bag on more than a few occasions...
But overall; I'm grinnin'! :D

Why aren't you?

Oh, I am. If I wasn't I wouldn't be on here and would have been gone long ago. I enjoy what I have....however, it's because of what I have made it. That's why it is what it is. While it isn't perfect....Any problems I may have were NOT solved by complaining here and waiting for someone else to fix it for me....ya know? IMHO- BRP makes a fantastic starting platform with the Spyder....However, it's just that...a starting platform.
Just sad that most of what your read on here are people that aren't so happy, and most want to bicker and finger point. :lecturef_smilie:

:agree: Complaining with no effort to solving problems...

...is like sitting in a rocking chair; just rocking back and forth.

It doesn't accomplish anything; but it's easy to do, and you can kill most of the day while doing it.

AN RT OWNER

should compile a list of tried and true heat reduction methods for the '13 's. post it on the diy board so it won't get buried. i think many would benefit.
