• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Thermal event

If the lady is fine then everything is OK. .... The sad part is going to be the hassles of getting a settlement and if a " cause and effect " can ever be determined.

Would be nice if BRP would buy the debris and could find a cause. Would become an interesting story if she could put the event to paper and share it with the Spyder world. Might serve to keeping fires to a minimum.

It would be even more fitting if BRP swapped the remains of the burned out one for a brand new one. I would think that there's not enough definitive evidence, i.e. it's totally burned out so there'll be nothing left to indicate the cause but
nevertheless BRP should hold their hand up as the Spyder was new and under guarantee and clearly something went very, very wrong.

EDIT: Having read the thread again I'm wondering why the evap canister wasn't replaced by the dealer after all of these fuel related problems.

I don't know Ann but I'm extremely glad that she wasn't injured.

In response to Ann's story. What is a purge valve and what is its function?

It's part of the evaporative system. Vented gas fumes are directed to the charcoal (evap) canister. The Purge valve is attached to the canister, and opens to allow the fumes to flow into the intake manifold, for proper burning.

:agree: A 2014 model of her choice!
Even though I believe that she had about 10,000 miles on the charred one...
(If I'm wrong on the mileage; I'm sorry!)

SpyderAnn, we're very sorry to hear about what happened and would like to reassure you that BRP is taking this event very seriously; we will of course be launching a full investigation effective immediately.
Furthermore, rest assured that regardless of the outcome, we'll do everything we can to make it right for you.

Steve,
I'm real good at spending other people's money... ;)
But Anne has been a solid supporter of BRP; please take the best possible care of her!

Good to see this. I hope they do a thorough investigation . . . could be a cracked tank, a split fuel line, a faulty connector . . . I hope the fire didn't destroy all the useful evidence of what the cause is.

So if I had to guess what caused the problem I would say the evap canister. I really do not think it was heat related or heat soak related. It was quite cool and I had not gotten any heat codes since before I left Las Vegas. I will report this to NHTSA and to BRP and I will let you all know what they say.

I am thinking about changing my user name from SpyderAnn01 to CrispySpyder or maybe FlamingSpyder. What do you think?

I think you need to change it to SpyderAngel, because there was definitely one watching over you. So glad you are OK:bowdown:
