• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Strange noise- Decel only

My Spyder #445 with about 5800 miles makes a stange whine/growl when decelerating. It first whines at about 22 mph, then maybe 17, and another time or two as the bike comes to a stop. This means if I decel to go around a corner, it will whine once or twice as I slow. The noise is a brief whine, and occurs with the clutch in or out. All other functions are fine - clutch, gearchange, selecting neutral, etc. Never makes a whine while accelerating. Runs very smoothly at any speed.

I have a hunch that this is my belt alignment, or tension. I have carefully adjusted the belt in an attempt to get it to track slightly off the flange - it is still just against the flange. I have a Gates sonic tension meter, and yesterday I have reduced the tension from about 1050, where it has been for a while, down to about 825N. The whine is exactly the same!

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this whine/growl?

On my HD's, belt whine or humming was often caused by a dirty belt. Washing it with a mild detergent and a soft bristle brush usually clears it right up. Belt dressing products usually make the problem worse.

:agree: Just a few of the things I absolutely hate as a mechanic: ether (starting fluid) dries the cylinder walls and "addicts" an engine over time, fix-a-flat dries the cords from the inside of the tire and makes mounting and balancing a tire a PIA :( if not completely cleaned before remounting the tire, belt dressing ditto on fix-a-flat and glazes the belt making squeal progressively worse, dries and cracks the belt (any belt).........:chat:
