My Spyder #445 with about 5800 miles makes a stange whine/growl when decelerating. It first whines at about 22 mph, then maybe 17, and another time or two as the bike comes to a stop. This means if I decel to go around a corner, it will whine once or twice as I slow. The noise is a brief whine, and occurs with the clutch in or out. All other functions are fine - clutch, gearchange, selecting neutral, etc. Never makes a whine while accelerating. Runs very smoothly at any speed.
I have a hunch that this is my belt alignment, or tension. I have carefully adjusted the belt in an attempt to get it to track slightly off the flange - it is still just against the flange. I have a Gates sonic tension meter, and yesterday I have reduced the tension from about 1050, where it has been for a while, down to about 825N. The whine is exactly the same!
Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this whine/growl?
