• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Stock airbox needs to go.

Just changed spark plugs on 2008 Spyder RS and removed airbox to change, "the plug". After taking the stock airbox out I hope to never deal with it ever again!

Over last 2 years have just looked at Evoluzione Race Airflow System, on bench, in garage. I did not install when purchased after reading concerns about how loud it may be. However, with the stock airbox out, unless race airflow breaks the sound barrier, may be time to install. Currently running with Hindle and Kens o2 modifier. Will race airflow operate without fuel pressure modifier?

Get you a good set of earplugs! (ever hear that song by Twisted Siter, Bang your head?....yea)
If you search the forum, you will find some great ideas on how to make your own smaller easy to deal with box with the air ducts/rams you will still need. The very best I have ever seen is from RSshrimp. Randy is a genious at working on the Spyders, but seriously does not input enough here to show off his work. I belive he has sold his Spyder now, but you should PM him for pics or a suggestion if he is willing to divulge. Not sure he still checks in on this site.

I have had the Kewlmetal intake now for a year and I love it. I also have the Hindle and the combo is just right. Everyone I ride with does not think its that loud at all and if you ride with earplugs and or a helmet whats the difference.

Holy cr*p! That does look cool! Was it difficult to install? The only drive train mod I have currently is the HMF slip on exhaust. Would I need anything else as far as modifiers?

Cake to install. Loud? Only when you are really hammering the Spyder... other wise I don't notice is much cruising down the road.

Little advice.... There is no rubber seal or O rings on the base of the intake. I suggest you put a very small bead of Black RTV on the bottom of the intake before you mate it to the throttle body. It probably wouldn't suck too much dirt, but why risk a gap?

I also hate K&N filters with a passion, as they DO pass through more dirt than a paper filter.... So I went to my local Cycle Gear and found a circular foam filter that I use as a pre-filter, and I think it might keep the noise from the intake down a hair.

The main reason I bought the intake is that :cus: front plug and the :cus: stock airbox. I can change both plugs out in like 10-15 minutes now and most of that time is taking off panels and tools and putting them back.

FYI... I carry two new plugs with me, pre-gapped to .029.

the Hardest part of this install is getting the airbox out. As far as noise it's noisy when you start it up but once you get up to speed you won't notice it. Best part about it is you don't have to worry about the oil in the airbox anymore.

The intake noise does add to the overall noise level. The evo filter, or anything without the box, will have that sucking sound. If you have an after market exhaust it should be neglible.

As far as the oil in the air box, there are a number of solutions that have been posted on this forum that will fix that issue.

If you're going to remove the airbox, and you're looking for every bit of performance, add some cool air inlets to bring fresh air into the intake area. Again, several creative, nice looking variations have been posted on this forum.

Frankly, I have more issues with checking/adjusting the valves than changing the spark plugs. I know that others have removed the cannister, but SpyderDeb's drive train is all stock save for the Micron exhaust.

Good luck with your performance hunt!

get rid of that dump of a airbox and get a air filter, I ride with skull candy and I do not know what the intake noise is, I am used to rockets so I think I like that sound and it is hella easier to work on the bike.

Get rid of the emissions canister too, plug the line.

You do not need to run the fuel pressure mod. You'll be running pretty good with the o2 mod, intake and race airflow-- although I think I would lean towards the kewlmetal one and may switch to that someday.

Rather than the fuel pressure mod--- maybe get a juicebox--- but LEAVE the o2 mod on if you do--- they work well together!

Prefilter

I am purchasing the Kewlmetal intake and would like to know where to find the prefilter as it may reduce noise somewhat.:dontknow:

anyone know where to find tips and directions for other members that modified there air box on there own i have searched and cant find anything and i know there are people that have said they have done it and posted on it thanks in advance.

A few guys have come up with some very clever solutions. VTSpyder being one of them. It's basically just a 6"X6" metal box with cold air inlets routed from the frunk (I think). Very clever indeed!

I am going to go ahead and install the kewl Metal intake myself, and use the pre-filter as well. That is an excellent idea...

The first Spyder I had had a ram air mod using some 3" dia cold air flex ducting that attached to the right front scoop, a 3" PVC adapter installed on the air box and an Evoluzine box filter, a Green or K&N filter will work, too.
For now, my new Spyder has more autoparts store performance trash. A Cold Air flange and Spectre cone filter. A slim piece of ABS was needed as filler, the flange doesn't cover the whole box inlet.

The box is actually a plastic electrical box 16$ from a hardware store. I made one so I wouldn't have to spend a ridiculous 200+$ on the kewl metal (although it is a nice piece but not worth the money seeing what the parts are). I think my whole setup was around $50-$60. Also, It's quiet so I don't get any intake noise. I use communicators with the wife and listen to music. The 2 Bro's duals are enough. I can forward anyone who's interested a step by step of how I did it with pics and links via private message.

I would be most interested in that, Sir! I could implement that on my Wife's RSS. She will love me for it!! :D

BTW, I dig the avatar pic. That is a wild Blue man. A nice candidate for a SPyder RS-X maybe?!?
