• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I hate to tell you this, but I believe you seriously over estimate the extent and financial impact of Spyder owners who share your unhappiness.

You don't have to tell me this, I have already gotten the message. That said I will shut up and go on my way. :banghead:

At this point I honestly don't care what BRP does or doesn't do to fix the DESS issue. I tried to make the point that BRP should correct what is a problem but if the majority of you owners are satisfied as it seems then I apologize for running my mouth. Screw it, just ride. :banghead:

I get it now, don't say anything bad about the Can Am God BRP how could I be so stupid. :roflblack::yes:

Today its 3 weeks since my last DESS error with their latest and greatest module...No word from BRP about any type of fix or turning it off...But wait, THEY don't have a problems after you have the 4916 module...I HAVE THE PROBLEM...larryd

The Spyder is neat, we own one simply because the wife is not a two wheel girl. She is pretty level headed but deals with vendors and accounts payable all week long.

My guess...the first time she is left standing in the hot Florida sun from a DESS failure, the situation may change and either I get the full on BUDS tools or we shop for something new or she tells me to replace the module and see what happens.

My guess, I get the tools... reality the bike gets a new module...the second failure if it happens, it won't be pretty...

This looks like it is turning out to be the next big issue for BRP after the spontaneously coumbusting 2013 RT's. Unfortunately, it's not an issue that NHTSA will address because the potential for injury or death just isn't there as it was with the 2013 RT's. Still, being stranded a long way from home really sucks, and BRP roadside assistance is a joke. I used it once to have my RT towed 22 miles from my house to the dealer. When the tow truck arrived - 3 hours after I called - the driver said to me, "Iv'e never gotten a call from these people, so I asked them what they would pay for the tow. They said $200.00 and I said OK". I'm just glad that it wasn't further 'cause $9.00/mile adds up pretty quick. I hope all of you don't have to wait as long as we - 2013 RT owners - had to wait to get this fully sorted out.

Granted, this may not be a life threatening system failure in and of itself, but it could certainly turn deadly for petite women like myself. To get stranded alone and have to wait for who knows how long for assistance, especially after dark? This DESS crap has the potential to be more than just an inconvenience.

DESS not withstanding anytime you are out and about, I'd suggest pepper gas and or a stun gun flashlight. This is what I give as gifts:

http://www.amazon.com/Guard-Dog-Sec...& stun guns&qid=1464152194&ref_=sr_1_8&sr=8-8

Just remember to charge once a month.

Stun guns are illegal in Michigan (although I do own one - shhhhh!), and pepper sprays can get in the user's eyes as well. What IS legal in MI, however, is open-carrying. I don't have a concealed weapons permit, but I could carry openly on my belt. However, that's a bit crazy for several reasons. But I could legally carry my pistol - unloaded and in its case or otherwise wrapped to be legal - in a cargo area, ready to be loaded and openly worn if needed. I'm not paranoid enough to actually do that UNLESS and UNTIL I ever get a DESS error.

2 things

1 Rural girl,
It's just my opnion but open carry is just a invitation to have you weapon taken from you ( unless you have a real good retention holster) Carrying concieled is a much better option ( IMHO) .

2. Now that I have everyones attention:
Ford is recalliing all ( ALL) it's trucks year 2013 and 2014 ( I think it's those years, I know it's 2 consecutive years)n for a brake ( master cylinder leakage) problem. There have been 9 known problems. How many:spyder2: 's have had a DESS problem??? More than 9 I'll bet. Yah, Ford is big but CanAm has to man up and fix the DESS problems correctly.

I'm not sure that opening this thread up to a discussion about the wisdom of open-carry, would cause anything but...

...Chaos! :D

" Chaos"

Chaos did not bring up the subject of open carry. I know this is a :spyder2:/motorcycle thread ---BUT--- Some of us do carry when we travelnojoke.

Concealed carry causes me no:

AND now back to the discussion about BRP and it's lack of customer service--------------

Morning all I noticed that a majority of the folks that have responded are RT ryders I have an RS-S and I hade a problem within two months of my purchase OK it was covered under the warranty.
Earlier this year I had the problem again I asked BRP for a little help and was told to bad I was out of Warranty and the entire cost was on me. that left a sour taste in my mouth. I am one of CAN-AM's
biggest fans and happy to tell anyone that asks about my Spyder, but after this last problem I just tell then to check out the web sit and make up there own mind. :banghead: jtpollock
edit
I have never let the problems keep me from riding I have gotten over 55,000 miles on the Spyder and as long as it runs I will ride it...

Steve from BRP said he would get back to me on this problem back in may but I have gotten NO contact since either more problems than they can handle or they don't care.

DISAPOINTED :dontknow:nojoke jtopllock

Not a Spyder owner so I can't relate to the DESS issue but, I am a Ski-Doo owner and they too have the DESS system and I've never heard of a single issue on one of their snowmobiles. Maybe it's an entirely different system? It is surprising that an electrical minded individual hasn't figured out how to turn the system off. Sounds like a good aftermarket business opportunity!
