• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not a Spyder owner so I can't relate to the DESS issue but, I am a Ski-Doo owner and they too have the DESS system and I've never heard of a single issue on one of their snowmobiles. Maybe it's an entirely different system? It is surprising that an electrical minded individual hasn't figured out how to turn the system off. Sounds like a good aftermarket business opportunity!

Well you are a Newbie here, ........actually there is a way to dis-able the DESS using a special BUDS program ...... but very few people who have the BUDS license and equipment have this program or will use it to dis-able the DESS ........Mike

Thanks for the post! But I was hoping to here from BRP "Steve" :dontknow: :cus: :banghead: jtpollock

Being new to the Spyder just what happens when a DESS (whatever that is) takes a dump? If disabling it solves the problem why put it on in the first place? What the heck does it do anyway?

False DESS codes---geez--I can't even get my oil light to come one starting the F3's with the oil drained--I guess DESS will never be my problem--but the F3's keeps running better with more mileage. Maybe my break in style of "pedal to the metal" after 100 miles helped.

DESS acronyn = Disturbed Everyone Shutdown Sh*t, or maybe Diagnostic Error ~ ~ maybe System Setting.

It's an anti-theft system that BRP has been using for years on their other products.
If you lost a toy, just because it wasn't there: how would you feel?

43,500 miles on 2 - 2015 RT platforms, I choose to ride..

I appreciate everyone sharing and have learned a lot about the various parts and features of these bikes. I have seen the dreaded orange screen (not DESS) on an older RT and still cringe when the orange screen appears at night or in a tunnel with the new software. I even occasionally leave the rear trunk lid ajar, and need to pull over to remedy that oversight.

We have not experienced a DESS code on either of our bikes, but iff and when we do I will let the SL and probably BRP know. For now I'll worry about maintenance issues that I can control, And try to watch out for the other guy. Good and Safe riding wishes to all.

Steve from BRP said he would get back to me on this problem back in may but I have gotten NO contact since either more problems than they can handle or they don't care.

DISAPOINTED :dontknow:nojoke jtopllock
Steve said in another thread that he was'nt talking to us anymore:dontknow: and than the whole thread was deleted.:dontknow:

Okay the wifes 15 RTS is still running in the neighborhood (new owner) with 46,000 miles and no problems. My 15 base RT SE6 just turned 43,950 miles and the DESS Code reared its head this month. Two weeks ago I saw the code when leaving a friends house, and it was okay until today when it wouldn't start at the store.

Good thing is I had made an appointment to have it checked out for this Friday. If I'm lucky it will start and I'll drop it off tonight at the dealer, and They can work their magic.

Hope it doesn't complicate our trip this weekend.... or next weekend.... or trip to Arizona....hmmmm. Well I'll hope for the best, that is BEST warranty is good thru next April...

I promised I'd let y'all know if I ever had an issue..... I know I should'na donnit!!

confused

the questions about the dess issues on the bike. i answered him, and don't want anyone to miss what he said. so i figured i would let you know. now he said brp doesn't support the idea of turning the system off, i told him i would sign a paper tell them that i don't mind them turning it off. if you feel the same, got to the tread and let him know. if we get enough people to say to turn it off, they might do it

new to all this, what is a dess?

Digitally encoded security system. It's the unit that reads a code from your key and if it matches the list of allowed keys sends an OK signal to the engine computer that allows the bike to start. There have been numerous problems with the system not reading keys correctly thus not allowing the bike to be started.

Got my 15 RT back... ready for Fall Rydes

"Good thing is I had made an appointment to have it checked out for this Friday. If I'm lucky it will start and I'll drop it off tonight at the dealer, and They can work their magic."

So after a couple of DESS warnings, I dropped the bike off at Fremont Motorsports for my appt on the 30th. Derek, one of their CanAm techs diagnosed the DESS module and it was ordered, and replaced with the two keys matched to the new module. A couple hrs work, I'm told, and picked the bike up yesterday so we should be good for Rydes this Fall.

Still covered under the BEST warranty so relatively painless.

Thanks to David the service Mngr., and Fremont for getting me back "on the Road Again".
