• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V162000
Summary:
BOMBARDIER RECREATIONAL IS RECALLING 9,932 MY 2008-2009 CAN-AM SPYDER ROADSTERS. A CONDITION MAY EXIST WHERE THE OPERATOR OF AN INVOLVED VEHICLE MAY NEED TO EXERT A FORCE GREATER THAN EXPECTED TO INITIATE THE TURNING OF THE STEERING HANDLEBAR OFF CENTER IN ORDER TO CORRECT VEHICLE DRIFT FROM A STRAIGHT LINE PATH. THIS HIGHER THAN EXPECTED STEERING CONTROL INPUT TORQUE MAY CAUSE A STEERING ANGLE OVERSHOOT AND AN UNEXPECTED DEVIATION OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE OPERATOR'S INTENDED PATH.
Consequence:
IF THIS OCCURS, IT CAN LEAD TO A TEMPORARY OUT OF LANE EXCURSION OF THE VEHICLE WHICH INCREASES THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH WITH OTHER TRAFFIC AND OR A DRIVE OFF THE ROAD.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE/REPAIR THE APPROPRIATE COMPONENTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON JULY 6, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BOMBARDIER RECREATIONAL AT 1-866-767-0707.
Notes:
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

I'll be calling them first thing next Tuesday to set up my appointment as my steering is acting up a bit lately (again).

Hope this fix works.

I have had this happen to me twice now. First time after exiting a turn at about 40 mph. Then again a few days ago after passing a truck on the interstate at 80 mph. Both times while going straight and attempting a slight right turn of the steering, it felt kinked and I had to force it to unbind.

Am happy to see they have a fix for it.

Yup--- that would need fixing then.

I haven't had this problem and I sure hope I don't...with the next service, I'll print up this thread and bring it with me...make sure they know to do it!

You can print and take the thread to your dealer. However, they may not know the fix yet. Basically the document states that BRP will begin notifying the dealers of the fix begining July 6th. So your dealer may not have the fix yet. So, don't be dissapointed if they tel you that they haven't got the fix yet.

Don't be real surprised if they don't have it even then, although they should soon after that date. Also don't be surprised if they do not fix it just because your rode in and asked. Recall notoifications are to be mailed to all registered owners. If it is like the car recalls, they will do that in order, and fix them according to their own schedule. I've been through that "wait your turn" deal a few times with the autos.

Not sure who your usual dealership is.....but if you bought a Spyder from someone without a certified tech ........Im just saying!

Ps- there will be a computer upgrade done to your unit to repair the problem.

Perfect timing.. I have an appointment for next Thursday to change my oil/service for 12,000km (1,000km late, but they made me wait a week for the appointment - LOL). My dealeproblemsr is usually on top of things so hopefully they do the fix, although I haven't had any noticeable problems.
Thanks for the "heads-up"

No dealer has the Patch yet were I go they are pretty much in the loop :ani29:
and BRP hasn't release it yet :gaah:

Hey Star Cruiser just curious as to what your dealer is charging for the 12, 000 mile service... by dealer said something about $850.00 I called another dealer and they said 450....

That is true...I booked appointment at my local dealer for 7/17 to install the "patch." They called me to cancel because they have not received it yet, and told me to wait until later in the month when they *THINK* that it will be available...

FYI..this is posted on spyderryder.

Update on Spyder DPS Recall

July 9, 2009
Dear SpyderRyder Subscriber,
The purpose of today's entry is to update you on the forthcoming safety recall related to the Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) of the Can-AmTM SpyderTM roadster as reported on the official website of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
We will be requiring more time to finalize testing but we continue to plan for launch of the campaign as soon as possible.
Our dedicated toll free line, 1-866-767-0707, is still in service if you have questions regarding this matter. This line is open between 8 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 8 to 9.30 AM and 10.30 AM to 5.30 PM on Friday, Eastern Standard Time; you will be able to speak to a BRP Representative if you wish to stay on the line after hearing the recorded information.
Thank you for your patience and your support of the Can-Am Spyder roadster.

I called my dealer (DDS Motorsports) this morning, and he received the recall notice from BRP. Rather than re-flash the DPS, he went ahead and replaced the unit (2008 SM5) with a new power steering unit. Good stuff!
