Spyder Pricing -- Newbie questions

How much is normal price-gouging for Spyders?

I took my first ride on one yesterday, liked it, and would probably buy one BUT:

The info I had on the MSRP for a 2008 Spyder with the electric shift transmission was $ 17, 000 (from "MotorCyclist", plus other places).

The price I was quoted from the dealer was a tick over $ 21, 000, with GA taxes included.

Pretty fat, right?

Thanks,

Mike Greener

welcome Don't know what your taxes are in GA. But I pucharsed an SM5 in June; 18000 out the door with the extened warranty; 1" riser and accessory outlet. thought the SE5's were 1500 more and then a 500 price increase for the 2009 models.

Thanks, Bill .... I think our GA tax is 4%.

Pensacola is only about 150 miles from Thomasville .... I used to blow thru there all the time when I was on the road.

I ride a Suzuki C90T right now .... I'm getting old, and it's getting a little heavy for me, plus my wife would like me to be on 3 wheels instead of 2 (she rides a trike).

So, the Can-Am looked like a possible way for me to go .... I did feel like it was designed for a much younger group than me ... I'm 65 .... any idea if very many geezers ride these machines?

Thanks,

Mike G.

welcome Just things to think about the SE5 went up 700$ for the 2009 (what is being shipped since Oct) So your looking at right at 17,700 for a silver/black SE5 + your tax/title/license fee's. Then if you change the color to yellow or red then you will be paying another $400 for 18,100 + tax/title/license fee's.

17,700 x 4% is 18,408
18,100 x 4% is 18,824

Now i know most dealers are still charging freight/assembly that can be anywhere up to $2000 from what i have heard in the past.

Not sure how far you are willing to go for one but I know we have a Dealer here that has 2 - 2008 SE5's in stock and ready to go that they are offering some discounts on them.

welcome
Hi Mike. I live in Allentown, PA and drove all the way to Goldsboro, NC to Performance East. I purchased mine from Travis Weeks. He was the best out the door price when I bought mine back in October 2008. Give him a call and see what he gives you as a price. Let him know I sent you and he will give you an honest price. I was very please with their service. Let me know if you need further info. Be glad to help out. Good luck.

With the current Economic condition I think you can deal a little know check out several dealers and don't work with just one welcome

Pretty high, I got my SE5, Yellow for 17,600 out the door, though that didn't include taxes since I bought in Illinois and live in Missouri. I'd check some other dealers. You can drive quite a ways for 3 grand. ;)

Thanks for the responses ... price gouging

Thanks for the replies, every one. Turns out the sales tax in GA is now 7%, not 4% like I thought .... shows how well I'm keeping up.

Dennis-SE5 .... I contacted Performance East in Goldsboro as you suggested. Sure enough, they have a new Spyder in stock (un-assembled) just like I want, and at a really good price .... especially compared to the fat $$$$ I was quoted locally. So, I may soon be a Spyder rider like the rest of you.

Now to see about selling my trusty Suzuki C90T bagger to a good home ...

Thanks,

Mike G.

I purchased mine Oct 11, 2008 in Southern California.

My total price for a 2008 SE5 that was manufactured September 30, 2008 was 17000.00.

That included the delivery to my house and the BRP outdoor cover even though it is stored in my garage.

I chose silver although they gave me the option at no extra cost to get any color I wanted.

I liked the silver the best and it was also in the original crate from BRP.

It took them 4 hours to put it together and test everything out and they I made sure it didn't even have a hairline scratch on it.

The bike is literally perfect with 100 miles on it.

If you have the cash and are ready to buy that would help the deal a lot.

I hate salesmen and always have but love to go up against them when purchasing anything!

If they could not let the spyder go for 17 grand, they would have not done the deal.

Now with gas being 1.50 a gallon around here and the rain falling in Socal, freezing cold, and the holidays, they really are hurting for sales!

which dealer did you use?

I'm almost 66 and got mine the second week of Sept. and have 1500 miles so far! SE5 and love it! Wife has one just like it and she is 9 years young and I have not seen her this happy since her grandsons was born!

What dealer did you buy from for that price and was that OTD with tax/lic?

Anyone come up with a blue book value for these things yet? I am dying to find out how much is a used Spyder worth and see if I got a decent deal.

Here is the pricing from the confidential list that CAN-AM had for Dec 1st,2007

SM5 Full Moon Color Non Premeir Edition
MSRP $15,499
Delaer Invoice $13,174
Holdback $775
Dealer Net $12,399

SE5
MSRP $16,999
Dealer Invoice $14,449
Holdback $850
Dealer Net $13,599

If you do the math there is basically a $3400 dollar difference between the dealer net and the MSRP on the SE5. A used spyder should cost closer to the dealer net or about $1500 dollars below the original cost based on looking at used dealer pricing on Cycle trader. I think the Spyder is a great bike based on me buying on but it was over hyped which people thought they could make money off of it. The dealers pretty much made all the money bynot discounting them and adding dealer mark ups of $2500 dollars to get the bike pricing between $18,000-$21,000.

These numbers should help anyone trying to negotiate pricing in the future if you add the 2009 markup and do the math.
