• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RTS as a get away vehicle think not

I have a related question. After I have been riding for a while and stop, the bike is hard to re-start -coughs and sputters. Am I doing something wrong?
Hot restart problems are a known problem with some RTs. First, be sure you do not have a fouled plug or bad plug wire...unfortunately, usually the front. This is a common cause of hard starting and rough running. If all is well with the ignition, you will need to use a work-around. There is no known cure yet. If you have long cranking, crack the throttle and try again. Usually this works. If not, open the throttle fully, crank to clear the cylinders, then start again with the throttle either closed or cracked.

I've noticed this problem too. I wouldn't think the plugs would be fouled at 2,000 miles. Then again, I may be wrong. It's very embarrasing when you're in a group of ryders espousing the virtues of you're :spyder2:, then it won't start correctly.:gaah:

Don't assume anything. I had fouled plugs when I picked up my RTS the first day, then every few hundred miles thereafter. If you are down on power, or have problems starting, it is a warranty problem. Have your dealer take a look. BTW, if the cause is a bad wire it will not show up on BUDS. If you have problems starting cold, you likely have ignition or plug problems. If the problem is only on hot restarts, it is more likely inherent in the breed. Try the cracked throttle starts as a cure.

Thanks Scotty. It is on hot starts. Guess this is just another Spyder trait that we'll have to put up with. I had a Honda 350 many years ago that fouled plugs constanly. I carried an extra set with me. Finally sold that beast and got the Kawasaki 750. With the tickets I got and the trouble I was in for running 130 on open desert roads, I shoulda kept the 350. But then again, I was young then...

I believe that if you re-start the Spyder within 5 minutes of shutdown you don't have to go and push the mode button...

This is true, I've been getting up every 5 minutes all day and starting my RT just so I don't have to wait for the screen! :joke:

On a serious note, when my RT has problems starting after a hot ride, I attribute it to vaporized gas. When it starts and is just chugging at 500 rpm, I rap the throttle a couple of times and it clears right up. Had a Nissan 300 ZX that did the same thing here is SE Texas. Once they insulated the fuel lines, it ran well.

Geez!!!! My big problem is keeping gas in the tank??? 145 miles and it's on empty. Now solve that one!!:gaah:

This ought to do it. :ohyea:

Hmmm, that is strange, the RT safety card looks a whole lot different than the one on my RS. I still like to read it before starting the engine though.

As for the bank robbery part, have you ever watched a show on TRU TV called World's Dumbest? One episode had a couple of guys that went to rob a bank on a scooter. One guy waited outside on the scooter while the other pulled the heist. He came running out, and jumped on the back of the scooter. The rear shock compressed, the driver gunned it, and the security guards simply pulled him off the scooter and knocked it to the ground. Hence why they were on the program. :roflblack:

Hopefully your RT would work better than that! :D

If the operating system is by Microsoft, we may have just found the reason for all the failure codes. Viruses! :gaah:

Rumor has it that Microsoft is already working on a
2011 Windows CanAm Garage Edition
which automatically updates all BRP recall notices.

:2thumbs:

NOw THAT'S cool...  I'm gonna have to follow your lead with the warning card. I wonder how long it'll take my Missus to notice the change?

In bank robbery 101 class I learned that you must always leave the engine running, have a full tank of gas and use a professional getaway driver to make for a more enjoyable and successful career in that line of work. :f_spider:

Clam Happy

I'm just happy as a clam when the display comes up and doesn't read " CHECK ENGINE " ..... " CHECK ENGINE - CHECK TRANSMISSION " .... " LIMP HOME MODE " - Kinda like winning a mini-lottery each time. Especially when we're 100+ miles from home on a Sunday.

All you need to do is turn the key before you put your helmet and gloves on by then it would have gone thru its computer checks push mode and off you go :2thumbs:
I used to use that time to let my two wheeler warm up, I think BRP couLd have set this up better than this

In the great scheme of things Spyder, the wait time is not all that bad considering dealer wait time, ordering parts wait time and waiting for the wife to get ready wait time.
